Default Russell Models America West A320

I recently picked up a 1:200 Russell Models America West A320. And it's actually pretty nice for the price (not too sure about the shape, but I'll leave that to experts).

It did leave me with one major question, however. Who is the guy in the mugshot looking photograph on the front of the box? And why is he on there? Is that "Russell?" Just curious, I've never seen a box quite like it.

Yes, that's Crownvic. He's had about a dozen different models produced.

Real tomato ketchup Eddie?
Nothing but the best! "I don't know why they call this stuff hamburger helper. It does just fine by itself, huh? I like it better than tuna helper myself, don't you, Clark?"

I wish he’d release more plastic 1:200. I think some nice plastic molds would be welcome in the hobby. The Gemini Plastics line was promising. Imagine a more affordable accurate and detailed alternative to Diecast metal models.

This was my thought. As a newbie to the diecast collecting hobby, I was really pleased with what I got - especially at the price point. I would welcome more as well.

I'm one of the few on the forum who actually prefers plastic/resin to diecast. They lack details diecast has, but that's a concern of mine. They're on a shelf and the details can't really be seen from a distance. And just more tiny parts to fall off after the glue dries out.

I’m with this. I’ve collected a lot of metals, and over the past 12 months, I’ve picked up more plastics than diecasts. I’m really digging the Herpa, Hogan Starjets and of course the Russell cactus A320!

They should be able to get some really crips molds for plastics and the small details should be easily do able as well. The shells of the HO scale trains come to mind for plastic models that are well detailed and mass manufactured. What the costs of the diecast metal model going up and up every year, this would be a really great alternative.

One of the biggest things I notice with the plastics is the gears roll, and the overall quality actually seems to be somewhat more consistent.

Best example of a great plastic mold is the A350 from herpa. It is top notch if you ask me. Wish all herpa plastic molds were that good.

I have the Herpa A 350 and I agree ...

Plastic model can be excellent, I have an ANA B 747-400 which was exclusive for the japanese market, this model was made by Hogan some twenty years ago and it is fantastically good.
The level of detail is very close to a Herpa Premium product.
