The Korean Air looks interesting, as I can't get enough of the Olympic liveries! Would love to see pictures of some of these.

I have been waiting a while to get a Tigerair Australia too and just when it's finally announced in the JCW August 2020 releases, the airline is the first airline in Australia to cease to exist due to covid-19. All staff of tigerair were sacked last week and the aircraft fleet are going straight to the boneyard for scrap. This one will be a nice gem to collect as it's now a piece of aviation history. This message is from the tigerair website :-

Tigerair Australia Update
Latest Update: 09:00am AEDT 05 August 2020
Due to impacts related to COVID-19, the Tigerair Australia brand has been discontinued. Customers affected by the announcements made today will be contacted directly. Tigerair Australia customers will be provided a travel credit at equivalent value for use on Virgin Australia operated services.

...and yet another useless pre-order announcement! Don't blame Russ for posting, but this is getting out of control with the Mfgs!

I had never pre-ordered a plane until the last year in all my years of collecting! This past year I bit the bullet and pre-ordered a few few (IF200 United Caravelle & House L-1011, as well as JC SW Shamu). I had an order cancelled last week by a CA retailer as one of my cards did not work. They did not contact me and simply cancelled the order and reposted the plane on their site. I called them and was told to reorder quickly which I did and asked them to process it Friday. No processing and asked yesterday about it with no reply. So I found the plane elsewhere cheaper and closer for shipping purposes. I suspect they were holding the plane a few days until one of the other pre-orders arrived, which I did not ask them to do. Told original retailer to cancel my order, so they did along with the other pre-orders mentioned, which I did not ask them to do. So that ends my frustration and pre-ordering. I have never failed in locating any plane released despite some touting how rare a release is or that it is sold out! Also I am done with another West Coast Retailer thank God. So for me that is 2 West Coast retailers I will not deal with and one East Coast retailer! To many great retailers to deal with and already released planes to buy! The only reliable announcements are Aeroclassics, NG, and Gemini right before planes are available to buy, due any unforeseen circumstances out of their control!

F%$K PRE-ORDERS!

All collectors should take a pledge to not preorder anything from Inflight or JCWings until they fix their current policy of announcing releases without any predetermined release dates.

I agree, but some fear they are gonna miss out I guess! I find most of them new after release at release prices or below! If not, I just get them on the cheap on the secondary market! SAY NO TO PRE-ORDERS!

I am not sure why so many have an aversion or disgust to a manufacturer announcing a future release? One reason this is done is to test the water on preorders. If one model shows a higher level of preorders versus another that may show poor future preorders, it allows the manufacturer to gauge where that model should be placed in the production line schedule. A good example is the Inflight Aeroflot A350. The advanced orders for that model were strong last winter when it was announced whereas a certain unnamed 787 from Inflight that I personally recommended over 2 years ago and preannounced has shown poor advanced orders thus put on the backburner. Where the issue arises is when a few of us are keen on that one particular model that has been announced then pushed back due to the unforeseen circumstances mentioned, then everyone is quick to criticize.

The key to a successful pre order is NEVER BUY FROM ANYONE WHO CHARGES FULL OR PARTIAL PRICE IN ADVANCE. I for one use 2 different dealers who never charge in advance for my Inflights and my JC Wings. Once the model is released it is always a nice surprise when I get an email alert that a model ordered several months ago has been shipped.

I have to agree with what crownvic said. Remember that these are limited quantity collectibles and often will sell out (especially in the 1:200 scale). There are several models I didn't pre-order and it came back to bite me by having to pay resale prices. Like crownvic, my preferred retailer also doesn't charge until the models are ready to ship.

This aircraft was the prototype.

These "lines" are certainly sensors and strain gauges to check the aerodynamic loads on the airframe.

I am not sure that's what I have an aversion to, I have no problem with Gemini Jets or Aeroclassics announcing a future release, because 90% of the time they release what they announce, when they say they're going to release it. I pre-order their stuff all the time. JC Wings and Inflight on the other hand are very non-specific with their release dates and often times the releases are delayed 6 months to a year. Surely there are other ways to determine the popularity of release ahead of time instead of stringing the collectorate along for months on end.

As mentioned on previous threads Gemini’s latest monthly announcements are only announced after ADI the distributor receives the load manifest and they are confirmed and on the container ..

Understood, so why can't Inflight and JC Wings follow the same protocol? Afterall by the looks of things Gemini is able to determine the demand for a release relatively accurately without having to play games. I've yet to have a pre-order not fulfilled by Gemini, which come to think of it, ironically has happened to me on an a couple of JC Wings releases in the past!

I'm not sure I understand the problem.
1. Some manufacturers make announcements and follow up on them
2. Some manufacturers make announcements and don't always follow up on them

So I say, trust group 1 and take group 2 with a grain of salt. It's not like we're relying on a vital component to produce something?

I am waiting for Royal Jordanian 787 for over than 1.5 years. I actually even flown on the real one since that time, but the model has never released yet.

Hope it will eventually.

Russ, that's the way it should be as Gemini and a few others do! What you describe above in a post where some MFGS. are trying to canvass the collectors is fine as long as it is not done in a misleading way, ie, as if it is going to be released. I hear you re retailers that don't charge for preorders, but with collectors who order models in numbers like you and I, are hard to keep track of...especially senile collectors like you and I!

What it comes down to is personal preference and collectors that have FOMO! Too what happened to me where I had a preorder and when it came in the retailer didn't bother calling me for a different payment method was just down right lazy! Too, when I cancelled the order for the one, he was butt hurt and cancelled 2 or 3 others to be spiteful! Just a real E Z d&%k lick move!

I absolutely hate the way Inflight and JC wings make announcements and wait 1-2 years to release. JFox seems to be better, they like Gemini and NG get their announced models out pretty quickly. I appreciate that.

I refuse to do pre-orders of any model unless I know for sure it's coming within 30 days.

This is the kind of practice that has led to me flirting around the sides of this hobby from time to time, case in point I haven’t purchased a 1/200 model for a while now as nothing picked my rather niche fancy. JC announce a few EasyJet 320s and I’m suddenly interested again.
What’s the betting these models don’t materialize in a timely manner, I get bored of waiting, forget about it and end up thinking I’ll go spend my money on something else.
As with many others here I prefer Gemini’s professional approach when it comes to new releases, even Herpa who announce models months in advance put them in a brochure so you have a rough idea of when to expect them.

This post by Russ is dated August 15, 2020. Three days after this post, this JC2TGG242 is goneski. Sold out and no longer available. I just scraped in. I expect not many of these were made. I would not have thought this release would be that popular but there you go.
