Nice but very expensive. Does not fit in the ‘limited edition’ discussion we had recently since it’s a Gemini200 release on behalf of Socatec - but it’s going in the same direction. Special purpose, strictly limited, massively increased price (and value?).

I have not flown on it so I wouldn’t consider buying the model. But, with respect to the retail price, I don’t know if I would if I had flown on this particular aircraft; to my mind, it’s around €50 too much. And that common “Remove before flight” keychain doesn’t catch me either.

The 1st limited edition of the AF B744 farewell model (F-GITD) was available at ARD (London) at the regular retail price, but that was probably due to the fact that this model was produced by Inflight (UK).

They had 2 or 3 in stock if I remember correctly.

Not sure if it'll be worth calling ARD to ask for the AF A380 farewell model.

The model of F-GITD sold very well later on on eBay.
I had a second offer for it [willing to pay the (high) price] but unfortunately I had only one model.

I got JCW's B744 F-GITJ when it was released as that's the one I had been flying on and the one I was hoping to be released one day.

Take the keychains out and sell it for 140 euroos, then it would be (very) interesting. For now, I'll stick with my two Herpa AF A380's and the Hogan wings 744.

Really can't believe that Air France is retiring their A380 fleet. I understand that demand is down completely, while all international flights are cancelled due to the current Covid-19 pandemic. Why they are not placed in storage until demand requires is strange.
I do get the 1960's 747 design going is sad but the A380 in 2000's design and only entered service 2005. Too early?

Another aircraft will not survive the coronavirus crisis : the A 340.
It will be phased out without any fanfare.

A fantastic aircraft, technically speaking, the best aircraft I have ever known, without any trap of any kind, well ahead of its time, even compared with other aircraft.

Unfortunately, it was killed by the ETOPS rules and the B 777 which was more economical to operate.

Well... here at FRA we have at the moment a renaissance of the A340 as for LH it is at the moment the perfect aircraft for their destinations with a lower capacity.

Therefore most of their A340 are now operational while all A380 + the majority of their B747 fleet are in storage.

PS: Regarding AIR FRANCE models from IF200, AMS puts at the moment many online (incl. an nice A310) and I am pretty sure that also the B744 + the GJ200 A380 will follow...

Hope the A340-300 survives the crisis at Lufthansa and Air France. Lufthansa allways was very fond of their 343's. Imo one of the most beautiful widebodies. For the A340-600 it is too late unfortunately, too big.

Unfortunately the AF A343's are already history. The last 4 they had were painted in JOON c/s.

One JOON A343 is still parked at CDG T1.

Why Air France? Why not 9V-SKA or 9V-SKB?

Simply because this model was commissioned by SOCATEC for Air France.

DLH 457, B748 D-ABYU flew over Sunday and today's flight, D-ABYL is scheduled to fly over my house as well with LADYJ4 LAX departure.

Always fun to spot the big Jumbo. Occasionally AF65 A388s would fly over. A rare treat as they mostly turned left at the Coast. Alas no more.
