Default My B747 Collection thread of 2020!

Hey all

And I know some of you have seen these models, but being the new year I thought to make a new thread regarding my B747 collection and everything that shall follow will also be added in this archive.

So here my entire Boeing 747 diecast metal model collection, it consists of 32 scale 1:200 diecast Boeing 747's, the five large scale 1:72 model kits up top are from my old model kit collecting days, still the B747's will be the main picture of this thread.

Default Re: My B747 Collection thread of 2020!

So here it is then Chapter 02 of my Boeing 747 Collection, it is finally going to happen!

On May 24, 2020 Dad & I shall go to a place where they can make me 8 of 16 glass shelves , these will be modified and built in to the main cabinet above the B747's that are on their display stands, that lost space will now become with this modification free usable space, this way I can add an other 16 scale 1:200 diecast B747 models!

End of April the first of the new batch of 16 B747's will arrive and that is the following:

B747 01#16

Boeing 747-287B
Aerolineas Argentinas "Delivery Livery 1971"
LV-OPA
Scale 1:200
Inflight 200

This one I have reserved at Arcunia, this will be my first B747 of the second Chapter of this B747 Collection.
LV-OPA was also done in dedication of the 20+ Argentinean friends that helped me within my x-3dfx community at Facebook, so more like an honor to them, also a good way to start this second chapter right

Sam Chui maker of this cool video and Elliot Epstein the CEO of Gemini Jets from this video and that too gave me the inspiration to do a new thread on this subject, I always wanted to redo this properly so hoping with this topic done I have a new B747 future to look forward to.

Even so I am wondering if Elliot Epstein is crownvic from this forum

Rock on, Fly Safe & Stay Healthy

Very nice that you found a way to put 16 more Queens in your cabinet! Always possibilities!

Yeah and it's really not that expensive either if I'd do all 16 glass shelevs price is around 320 euros but by splitting the costs I do 8 first and add a B747 I don't have and then around August 24th the other 8 glass shelves.

Modding the cabinet like drilling holes will be done by my dad, my arthritis and shakey hands won't do fit for the job, but my dad will manage this easilly.

It was his idea to actually do this, so by the time all that extra space is filled the total amount of scale 1:200 diecast B747s will land at 48 units

That's more like it and after that I will surely think of other possibilities to add even more haha

Running out of space in your cabinet? Then just mod it and make more space!
yaaay

You're very fortunate to have these. You have quite a few 747s that I once owned or wanted to own: the two Qantas (top image); National; Continental; KLM white top; KLM B743; Singapore "Tropical"; Malaysia "Hibiscus"; NWO; American; Pan Am. They're all beautiful but these are my faves. I miss collecting but I can't get back into it.

Nice thread and pics once again! Glad your dad is supportive and helping out! You guys must be close!

In your honor I decided to add the G200 Lufthansa 748 new colors...all most missed out on this one as when I was deciding they were all over the place and the following week...poof, they were mostly gone. Only found two and was able to get one that is on its way.

I also added the Aer Lingus 747 I posted in another thread that you saw where I had to do the wingtip repair! I finally uploaded the finished repair pics and she is in my display case.

KLM4me, one day maybe you'll get back into it! Out of the OPs KLM747's my favorite is the 743. next would be delivery colors,

Glad to see you are being creative in creating more space for the Queens! Happy collecting!

@KLM4me

Well I will always be here to help seek things for my friends including you too tho, why can't you collect anymore, what happened? if you want to talk about it via DM I am here to vent to and talk to even about such things.
But I am sure you will return someday though, as for those B747's you mentioned some of them were not cheap but sometimes the price you have to pay for something you really want has a lower value than the item it's self.

The same kind of thing I had that was when I collected 3dfx Engineering Samples, Vintage Star Wars Rebel Alliance & Resistance Starfighters, Vintage Dino-Riders etc, can be anything; similar things did cross my mind several times.

Sometimes the price doesn't play a strong role because your willpower to get that one item has a higher value than the price and that can be quite dangers at some point too, also something to keep in mind.

@jcahea
Yaaaaaaaaaas the more B747's the better and seeing that lost space my dad was like we gotta do something about that haha I was like HELL YEA!

And yeah my parents and I are very close and well bonded for that part, we solve problems together a team work kind of idea and that can bring very nice results.
The Boeing 747 is something I need to have with me here, its the one and only aircraft I can never let go of, even when no more Traditional B747's are in service my collection reflects that negativity in to positivity, they are all here so for me nothing is lost forever. just use your imagination and make your own world of endless possibilities.

But yea once a B747 arrives I will do a review like always and post the one picture of them in the main display in this topic, it will be just like the good old days and I really missed it so I had to come up with a solution glad my dad helped along creating this solution

I've wanted to live in London since 1989 and couldn't find a way to make it happen until after a visit there in May 2017. For me to move to London, I'm having to change careers and will be taking a course in 3D Digital Animation and VFX. I was miserable with my former occupation for a long time so I'm very happy about the change. I sold all but two models to help raise funds to make the move. My last day at my former employer was 31st December and I've been home studying in preparation for the course. I was to move on 13th April but obvs. that's been delayed. Even if I could afford to buy models I wouldn't want to pay to ship them to London.

That is a way of doing, heck I even talk to my B747's and my imagination generates the replies, same how I talk to my orchids for giving me such wonderful flowers, we all have our ways in such ways.
So yea I see my B747's as life forms, I guess that is what isolation does, I Live alone I do have assisted living from nurses, but overall always alone, so by talking to myself a lot and to the things I collect, it's kind of my way of dealing with the loneliness that the isolation is giving me.
My collections kind of keep away the bad memories from my dark past.
it's as if I can hide within them, in that kind of sense.

Well it's totally up to you to return to aircraft modeling yourself the shipping from NL to UK isn't much just remain within the EU when buying models and there are plenty ways of making that less of strain for you
Personally I always hope to see old collectors return but if they can't like you don't want to I respect that, as for me I don't think I can let go of my B747's this is one of many small collections I have and they are like medicine for my mind and keep the bad memories at bay.

In may I will try and grab one of these from IF200

B747 02#16

Boeing 747-4HAF/ER/SCD
TNT Global Express Logistics & Mail "Orange Head Livery"
OO-THA
Scale 1:200
Inflight 200

This is one of my long time favorite B747 Freighters, the one I have now is from Skymarks, which is this fella:

Now that Inflight 200 is making one I am eager to get this in May with the B747 Cabinet upgrade as well
This TNT B747-4HAF/ER/SCD is a dream come true for me

And I do hope to buy this from Arcunia by May 25th of course

hey thanks Steve and yea as I described in my previous post, that will happen in may same time I do the first half of the B747 Display upgrade, by letting a special glass company custom build the first 8 of 16 glass shelves for the upgrade operation of my main B747 Display

This will be a delicate operation but the end result will be promising and worth it, I might make a separate thread of the progress of this cabinet modification, might be interesting for some to witness

Hey thanks man and aaah right! Well cool to see Sam and your Brother in that video, I really enjoyed it
And it seemed like a cool place and cosy to be at, as with many aircraft model shops, tons of choice everywhere you look, never a bad thing!

The Aviation Megastore in Alsmeerderbrug, The Netherlands on the other hand that is just insane and dwarfs everything I have seen, not many stores come close to their inventory size though.
They have a stock inventory size of around 60.000 items, just crazy.
They are about a 125 KM drive up north from me I go there once in a while, but now due to covid-19, not much traveling is happening sadly.

Well I hope you are doing well crownvic
These are crazy times we have entered.

I really hope to have someday the chance to visit ADI...

Do you remenber when you visit FRA with Elliot and I brought you to our historical collection of Hector Cabezas, who is now also for years in heaven

BTW... Looking outside I can count at the moment 18!!! B747's from LH put in storage on the aprons and in front of our new Termal 3 which is actual under construction…

And these are only the smales part of the over 700 LH aircrafts parked at the moment...

Martin, of course I remember that visit with Elliot. Who in a million years could ever imagine a museum of that magnitude in the basement of a building at Frankfurt Airport. So extensive too...
Yes so sad about the current situation..

Well got some bad news here guys....

As for this model I had to cancel it due to the Covid-19 situation and that the company that was going to make the 16 extra glass planks is closed down due to the situation.

Also I didn't feel like modding my cabinet where my 32 part diecast 1:200 B747's are placed in, and left alone to repack them in boxes I fear of damaging them and such so I called this idea off for now, it's just not doable for me at this point so I hope an other time for this model to come around til I have a new cabinet to place more B747 models in, but for now this will have to be left aside.

Sorry for the joy I really was focused on doing this so I hope to relive this idea in the future.
Human Malware aka Covid-19 has affected alot of things making such dreams that I had here come to a major halt.
Hereby I hope everyone stays safe and keep one Velociraptor's distance apart from each other

Rock on & Fly Safe

I'm saddened to learn you've had to postpone a purchase. One thing I've learned: when the time is right, it will happen.

Seeing this post again reminded me of something I wrote above. Did you by chance notice I purchased a 1:200 scale 747 recently? I posted a couple photos of it on Sunday.

Hmm not all hopes are lost I am still going to continue with this project I will Buy the LV-OPA and keep it here in it's box til I can upgrade the main display some B747's you just need to get before they are sold out so I kind of rethought the situation and just made the move today, Arcunia.nl is up to date as well
But hey, all will come to good ends thankfully <3

I too was shocked that I was running out of options and reams were being slaughtered in my mind.

This will happen even if my mind likes it or not <3

B747 01#16

Boeing 747-287B
Aerolineas Argentinas "Delivery Livery 1971"
LV-OPA
Scale 1:200
Inflight 200

I also love being a member here you people are the rare good folk as it comes to DA.C Forums, so I Hope to come back as many times as I can, Dad still wants to help me with the glass shelves so I won't give up so easily, just the negative moments ... they do weird things to me I guess.

We will survive from this Covid-19 madness, I am sure most of us will do just fine, it's just very strange times, something none of us has ever experienced, a world pandemic it's self...
Anyways thanks for all your kind support I will make a lovely topic of LV-OPA I will promise you that dearly <3

Yeah I always will try to make good pics or better ones but that will surely happen I was saddened 2 days ago when I found out things were going to get complicated til a friend from Ebay was so surprised of my collections and decided to give me the item they were selling an AMD R900 Antilles Reference Board which later became the AMD Radeon HD 6990, a collectors time when it comes to Graphics cards so that also re-opened the window to continue with LV-OPA so I called arcunia.nl immediately telling him that I can continue my Secondary B747 Campaign.

All bad things came to an end and it all became far more hopeful, gladly <3

747 heavan - I like this bird - thank You!

since I got once the chance, to fly in a LH 747-400 on the jump seat, the 744 is something special to me.

It was a whole turnaround from FRA on a sunday to BKK (11 pm) then at wednesday to MNL. We just stood there for only one hour before going back to BKK, they called it "shuttle". I was allowed to do some clicks on the FMS :-)))) to carry over some data from the briefing package into the FMC. We arrived in BKK late at night - a fantastic night landing there, the lights in the city. It was in 2000 still on the old Don Mueang airport with the golf course between the runways. The flight back to FRA was at Friday evening. Today about still 20 years ago.

Sorry for this story, but I fall back into this time when I saw this thread.

Hey no worries man, if sharing our love, experiences and knowledge of the B747 is something we all favor, just go for it I'd be like

To me the B747-400 also has an important role, along side the B747-200 & 300 as well.

Well here's my best of memories when it comes to B747's:

-------------------------------------------------------
First Flight:

Boeing 747-206B
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines "White Top Livery 1970-1982"
PH-BUA "The Mississippi"

First Flight:
December 13, 1970

My Flight:
December 21, 1980

Age:
About 10 Years at the time being

Fly path:

Amsterdam - Dubai - Singapore - Melbourne - Sydney

This was a Legendary flight since we flew on the world's first Boeing 747-200B that entered service back in, the Bar & Lounge was also still on the upper deck as my parents told me.

My parents & I moved from The Netherlands to Migrate to Australia and start a new life there.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Second flight:
I kinda got confused with this one...

Boeing 747-306M
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines
PH-BUU "Sir Frank Whittle"

Could of been either I think I got this one wrong as the model goes which is a shame.

First Flight of PH-BUU
September 15, 1983,

It was a retour flight actually but retours always contain two flights or say rides so yeah worth making that a 2 in1 fun ride then!

My first flight was on December 21, 1985, the second was on January 24, 1986, the captain even told us it was one of KLM's 3 B747-306M's in service.

So I guess I bought the wrong model or PH-BUU was not available so I went with PH-BUW the closest to.
Kind of disappointed i messed these two up sadly.

Anyways it was one of 3 only B747-300's KLM had in service so that was quite the rarest experience B747 wise. only 81 B747-300's were made worldwide.

My Flight 01:
Sydney - Singapore - Colombo - Amsterdam

My Flight 02 (return flight):
Amsterdam - Colombo - Singapore - Sydney

Ah well got space to get PH-BUU then, a late discovery tho.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The 3rd B747 I flew was consisted of two flights, but this being the first operational Boeing 747-400 and only operational for Malaysia Airlines at the the time for Malaysian Airlines at the time

It was also their flagship, so an other legendary flight like the other two B747's I flew with

Boeing 747-4H6
Malaysian Airlines "White Gray Livery 1989-2003"
9M-MHL "Kuala Lumpur"

First Flight:
October 01, 1989

My Flight 01:
December 13, 1990

Perth - Kuala Lumpur

We stayed in the Marriet Hotel of Kuala Lumpur for 3 days and had a mini Malaysian Vacation there

My Flight 02:
December 17, 1990

Kuala Lumpur - Colombo - Zurich - Amsterdam

At Colombo the Captain gave me a VIP tour under the belly of the beast, he showed me the landing gear and the four General Electric CF6-80C2 Jet Engines, I was only 14 that time as if I stood under some Spaceship also being a Star Wars Fan... Size was quite something back then lol

From Colombo to Zurich I was invited to stay int he cockpit for a good 2 hours and from Zurich to Amsterdam I was re-invited for good company.

These are things that are very hard to near impossible these days, this was a sign that I did have something with the Boeing 747 it's self.

Now collecting 1:200 models of them and running a community and I run the Boeing 747 Community at Facebook, which can be found here:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/B747community

But yea that are my experiences when it comes to the Boeing 747, good enough to do a B747 collection which was the beautiful outcome of this collection I have with me now

Glad you added the flaps down VA 744 beauty to your collection!

Also glad to see Goldleader is adding to his 747 fleet to avoid having a hard time later finding what he wants as certain ones sell out. Great strategy! You'll eventually have time to unveil her in a new space!

Hey thanks KLM4me The reason I rememebr such things is due to my Autism which gives me photographic memory of things I find important or of very high interest, my parrents told me the flight of PH-BUA and as for PH-BUU & 9M-MHL I remember those as the light of day to be honest B747's will never leave my mind, those memories was also the reason why I collected these in diecast at 1:200.

The Boeing 747 is the marvel of Joe Sutter that saved the Boeing Company from destruction, he reused certain tech from the Boeing 2707 SST back in to that of the Boeing 747 Jumbo jet things like the landing gear, avionics as well as slats, spoilers and triple folded flaps which all B747's have to the very day.

The B747 is an aircraft everyone will remember and know what it looks like that too is the success of 51+ years of reliable service.

Hell yea man, I will always try to find a way out of certain complicated or troubled situations, LV-OPA is in dedication to all my Argentinean Friends from the RETRO PC Argentina Community at Facebook and from x-3dfx.
This is something that I really want to do in dedication to my Argentinean tech buddies

Thank you for the explanation. I don't recall too much from my two first flights on the 747. Both on British from Miami to London in February 1989. The flight over was a night flight so I slept through most of it but I remember arriving London so jet lagged. I was visiting a pen pal who worked for Canadian Airlines and had airline "connections." My flights were booked in economy but he knew a British Airways employee who changed my ticket to First on the return and I got to sit in the upper deck. I will never forget it.

Anyway, you're very fortunate to own such a nice and diverse collection of this magnificent aircraft. I'd LOVE to own an old colours KLM 747 but that'll need to wait until after I move.

I've been trying to find information about this online but I'm not completely sure what I've found is accurate. It seems it can still be purchased. According to Wiki there were 18 orders for it in 2018 with 13 delivered to date, and of course, AF1 is to be delivered in 2024. Interesting article about this magnificent aircraft.

I would love to fly on one of Lufthansa's 748i in business class. The upper deck cabin looks beautiful.

As far as I know they still are Baerke But I could be wrong though, due to the Covid-19 situation.

Hmm well there you are unless that is already obsolete info, hence Covid-19 being a thing now, which has slowed down to fully stopped companies from doing anything as of late.

Yeah they are, but Korean Air's B747-8B5's & Air China's B747-89L's aren't a bad choice either I have heard

Hey all here the changes I went through to give my ARG B747-287B the room it needed and after moving the AA B747SP_31 to an other spit where the two Concorde SSTs were well just follow on and You'll see and yes I talked to my B747's and my imagination made them talk back to me haha always fun and no I'm not high yet, well B747 high maybe..

Here all the other models that I moved around just to give a different appeal to the eye and yeah I am satisfied with this solution, didn't need to drill any holes or anything major thankfully.

Boeing 747-438 ER
Qantas "Olympic 2016 Livery"

Hey thanks man, yeah trying to get back in to it really
My latest one I got a few days ago which is this fella
https://www.diecastaircraftforum.com...33rd-b747.html

An ARG B747-287B the LV-OPA from IF200 it's a Limited Edition 1 of 100pcs, it was released in December of 2017.

It's the first Part of my second chapter of my B747 Collection.
which will be followed by 16 extra diecast scale 1:200 B747 models, LV-OPA is the start of that second adventure, and where it will take me? I have no idea, bt as the months go by, I'll dive deeper in to it and see what comes around

Missed doing this finding rare discontinued models and they accomplishing by finding them and obtaining them in the end, the feeling of a challenge is really there, which is one of my favorite fun factors of this hobby

hey thanks

And yeah, gonna let a glass company custom make me 16 glass shelves will be around 320 Euro's total but well worth it.
Just due to the Covid-19 pandemic things have slowed down so this upgrade is delayed sadly
But that won't stop me for getting more B747's haha xD

Wow your collection gets so nice everytime I see it. Was there ever a KLM 747-200 (In the dark blue livery**) 1:200 released with just the 3 window on the upper deck per side?

Default Re: My B747 Collection thread of 2020!

hey thanks as for the KLM B747-206B with 2x 3 Windows on the upper deck and the Royal Sky Blue livery I don't think that one was ever made, no.
Only the White Top Livery was made with this window config when it came to Inflight 200, so yea that would be cool to see a model of in the Royal Sky Blue Colors, not something I'd add tho, White Top Livery is my favorite KLM livery if I have to be honest, would be awesome to see that livery on their last B747-406M , if only right...

And yeam I always try to get the models I really want. only I have reached a stage where finding two models I have been looking for , for the past 3 years delivered me little result, even I have patience some models are extremely hard to come by.

the ones I seek are these two

Boeing 747-2D7B
Thai Airways International (Delivery Livery 1988)
HS-TGA or HS-TGB (either is fine)
Scale 1:200
J-Fox Models / Inflight 200

Boeing 747SP-27 (Ex Braniff International B747SP-27)
Aerolineas Argentinas (Delivery Livery 1971)
LV-OHV
Scale 1:200
Inflight 200

So yea those I have been looking for for a very long time.
And I won't give up that easily either.

Anyways I did change my cabinet a bit, the QANTAS Nalanji Dreaming & Wunala Dreaming both from JC Wings are now on their stands, I placed City of Bunbury under Wunala Dreaming 01 up top left and under than City of Gold Coast - Tweed with Nalanji Dreaming this way I have a better spread out varied display, and JC Wings has mostly weaker landing gear than that of Inflight 200, and yea this works just fine, here the result

Boeing 747-438
QANTAS Australia "Wunala Dreaming 01"
VH-OJB "City of Sydney"
Scale 1:200
JC Wings
-------------------------------------
Boeing 747-238B
QANTAS Australia "Spirit of Australia Livery 1987-2000"
VH-EBQ "City of Bunbury"
Scale 1:200
Inflight 200

Limited Edition 1 of 240pcs

Boeing 747-338
QANTAS Australia "Nalanji Dreaming"
VH-EBU "City of Warnambool"
Scale 1:200
JC Wings
-------------------------------------
Boeing 747SP-38
QANTAS Australia "Ochre Livery 1975-1987" (B747SP)
VH-EAA "City of Gold Coast - Tweed"
Scale 1:200
Inflight 200

Limited Edition 1 of 312pcs

And here the new look for the total display

You know what Goldie, beats me why JCW/GJ don't release more 747-100's 200's 300's classics and more 400's. And while we are at it, a new 747SP tooling with gear up options. Surely I am not the only collector that likes to display the sleek aircraft aerodynamics design of the beautiful Joe Sutter's 747 with the gear up options?

Hmm well I kinda love the gear down option and if there is a way to add in a choice for B747SP's to have gear up I do think that should be added yea, even I myself prefer gear down, I am used to this look and it's hard for me to change that as that will fight my mind big time.

Having autism is well some changes are impossible for me to do, changing the display it's self was also hard, but gladly I did manage, even it took mea few days to accept..
As that is less hard than changing all the gear settings and such.

So yea i think you are alone on the gear up setting for your models display, but I do agree that models companies should add that to their B747SP line of aircraft, thereby letting the model collector decide if they want their gears in extracted or retracted configs, good thought there

Hey all made some updated after the ARG B747-287B the LV-OPA 3 other B747's were added, so I had to move out 3 extra B747SP's to make the additional space and that actually worked out well!

This is what I did to make this all plausible
What I did was I moved out the following SP's:

Alliance Air B747SP-44 ZS-SPA Matroosberg
South African B747SP-44 ZS-SPE Hantam
Pan American World Airways B747SP-21 N538PA Clipper Princess Grace

And placed these with the American Airlines B747SP-31 the N601AA in my SST cabinet where I know have these four B747SP's as some other aircraft from Boeing & Airbus.

That set is like this now, just only naming the B747SP's for now:

Boeing 747SP-44
South African Airways "South African Flag Livery"
ZS-SPE "Hantam"
Scale 1:200
Inflight 200

Limited Edition 1 of 312pcs

Boeing 747SP-31
American Airlines "Silver Bullet Livery 1975"
N601AA "747 Luxury Liner"
Scale 1:200
Inflight 200

Boeing 747SP-21
Pan American World Airways "Billboard Livery 1985-1991"
N538PA "Clipper Princess Grace"
Scale 1:200
Inflight 200

Limited Edition 1 of 312 pcs
-----------------------------------------

Alliance Air "Lion King Livery 1995-2000"
ZS-SPA "Matroosberg"
Scale 1:200

Hey thanks the lying artworks also stand out like the classics do, together they give a great variation to the display, which was one of my primary goals for it and gladly that worked out very well, the result surely does that justice
