Japan's first post-war civil airline actually took the skies at 07.43 on October 25, 1951, when JL 301, a twin-engine Martin 202, chartered from Northwest Airlines, lifted off from Haneda Airport in Tokyo bound for Osaka and Fukuoka with 41 passengers and crew on board. At that time, Japan was still under U.S. Occupation and essentially controlled by the Supreme Command of the Allied Powers (SCAP). The ownership and operation of aircraft by Japanese was banned. However, in 1951 SCAP sanctioned the go-ahead for the organisation and launch of what was to become Japan Airlines.
After the domestic launch, international service followed in February 2nd 1954 when a newly organised Japan Airlines, jointly financed with government and private backing, inaugurated transpacific flights to San Francisco via Wake Island and Honolulu using Douglas DC6B aircraft. The 1970's were the age of the Boeing 747 and the wide-bodied jet and JAL adopted the Boeing giant as the backbone of its fleet, eventually becoming the first airline to take delivery of 100Boeing 747's.
The year of 2001, JAL's 50th anniversary of flight operations, was also the 100th anniversary year of the birth of Walt Disney. The JAL Dream Express 21 campaign features aircraft decorated with special Disney character designs and, throughout the year of 2001, the airline had other enjoyable events. JAL's special Disney inspired liveries cover five different themes and are painted on a total of six aircraft. The design of aircraft number 6 is based on the outcome of a unique competition for Japanese junior school children, who were invited to write a story with the theme of a jolly journey by Mickey Mouse and his friends. Out of 2,255 entries, the winner is 6th-grade junior school pupil Kumiko Yamaguchi from Fukuoka, Western Japan, for her entry entitled " Flight of Dreams ".Her story was published in picture book form by the end of the 2001 and Disney artists have prepared the design for the 6th special Dream Express aircraft which took to the skies from Fukuoka, Kumiko's home city, on October 28 2001 as flight JL353. (yet to be released by JCW )
There was a special commemorative plaque onboard for inflight snap shots on all these aircraft. Each passenger received a zip lock bag with a post card of the aircraft they were on and a badge. All cabin attendants wore special uniforms. Small children were given free Disney character toy and and Disney colouring book and pencils each. All seat head rest covers featured special Disney theme. The inflight Disney channel was offered for free on flights. On JDE #4 international flights Disney merchandise was available for sale on board duty free.
So here goes something of which is fair to say, may not be of much interest to most collectors, is the history leading up to JAL's 50th anniversary JAL DREAM EXPRESS 21 campaign in co-opraration with Walt Disney International Japan. Here is what has been released in 1:200 diecast. Just JDE 6 yellow Dream Story to come by JCW. It would be nice if JCW also released the 50th anniversary of the the Hawaii special aircraft that has already been released by Inflight.

I really like the idea of an "aircraft-on-aircraft" livery as a way to celebrate an anniversary. JAL did a great job with their 747. Definitely an eye catcher and a stunning model!

JCW made all of the six set a long long long time ago Anthony. They have just been waiting, and waiting in a warehouse in Hong Kong for long time staggered world wide release at JCW discretion. All the display stands are the same old, same old, and rightly so. So they should be. To match the entire set. So there is no need of a question of if, but when.

It has come to my attention that my post is misleading and upon review it is with regard to the model released by Inflight200 JAL's 50th Anniversary of Hawaiian flights has nothing to do with the JAL's 50th birthday

I am having one done by Sergei of AS models with a United Friendship Flaps down as the donor model (I pre-ordered 2 again without knowing I already had it pre-ordered with another store). I just really love this Livery. Unfortunately with lots of flights being cancelled, It probably will arrive much later. Again thanks for sharing!

Agreed! I have it in the 1:400 scale by Big Bird 400 (Original). Never had an opportunity for the 1:200 version. They fetched a fair price and likely still do if they come available.
This is my photo and model. Maybe someone can ask Steve to explain himself since he refuses to answer me

I wish you two the best in sorting out whatever has come between you gentlemen. Based on current global events concerning the Coronavirus pandemic, I think there are far more important priorities to take into consideration than somebody posting a photo of your model. Personally, I would take that as a compliment if another DAC member wanted to post my 1/200 bird on the forum; as a way to share their thoughts and to enlighten other DAC members on what unique models were rolled out in the early years of the 1/200 world.

I did mention on your thread that I spent several hours looking for models that did not exist in 1:200 scale that you posted in this section in the forum. Well, it looks like you guys are A-OK and my job is done!
I really have not been on the DAC the past few months, based on work/home projects/kiddies, etc. However, with the WFH directive I've been jumping on here a little bit more and this thread intrigued me. Stay safe! T7
