Default Piedmont

A few pics of some Piedmont planes. DC-3 on stand came from a Piedmont Captain. All are 1:200 except the 2 DC-3s. The 727-100 is by SM200. I need to put out my G200 767, 727-200, and IF 737 first release. The large 737 stretching along the back is a Piedmont corporate advertising item. Enjoy!

Very nice! Being from NC, Piedmont was always my "local" airline and I certainly do miss them. My first flight on an airplane was on a Piedmont YS-11 in 1976. Thanks for posting, great collection!

Thanks! Love the airline and got to fly on the old DC-3s from Washington National to Bluefield back in the late 60s early 70's. Got to fly on a YS-11 once as the DC-3 I was on had an engine fire when we were taxing.

Glad there are some other collectors on here loving Piedmont!

Gonna tell a very short personal story. From a young age I wanted to be a commercial pilot. Due to hearing loss and not having 20/20 vision, I was informed I wouldn't qualify. I still wanted to work for an airline in some capacity. At long last in 1985 I was hired by Piedmont in their Lake Buena Vista, Florida reservations center. I'm not gonna lie, being a reservationist was grueling work. I'd come home from work, walk into my bedroom, close the door and lay on my bed to decompress. But receiving those "thank you" letters from grateful customers and passengers far outweighed the more difficult ones. And I was able to fly anywhere in the Piedmont system for such a small amount of money and it was easier in those days to fly non-rev.

I've owned quite a few of these models but there's one I've never been able to find: the Skymarks Piedmont 727-200 in 1:150 scale.

Thank you for posting these photos. Piedmont will always have a very special place in my heart and mind. They were a great airline to work for.

Outstanding display John! Piedmont is one of my favorites, and I am hoping 1/200 scale collectors will be blessed with a 737-300, Dash 7, Dash 8, Shorts 330 & 360 at some point in the future! All are existing moulds, so lets get it done!

Thank you sir! Appreciate the feedback! I'm really starting to like memorabilia items to go with some of the display! When I was collecting 1:400, the one collector that recesses his Ikea cabinets in the wall always did a nice job with his display and was partly inspiring in me doing the same.

Yes, bring em all on! PIEDMONT PIEDMONT!

I like the memorabilia to complement the Piedmont models you have. Great stuff and thanks for bringing your Piedmont collection to the forum.

...mini museum! Want to sell my house and move west of town so I can have a separate building/man cave to be able to display more! Do it Goken style on a smaller scale!

I was just thinking the other day...if collectors on here that lived close by took their collections and combined them, they could start mini museums around the country by leasing a space and displaying their collections.

Great display and great collection!

Fond memories of Piedmont as well. When I did my pilot training in South Carolina, Piedmont base Charlotte was actually the first big airport I flew to on my cross country training. Amazing experience I will never forget.
Piedmont flew me to Myrtle beach many times.

Great looking models. It’s sad that Piedmont was absorbed as it took with it one of the nicest liveries. I can well remember seeing their 767 operating in and out of Gatwick. I got to fly on a YS11 operated by Olympic. I seem to remember an excellent 1/72 Japanese plastic kit of the YS11 in Piedmont livery. It had the option of two fuselages, one was clear plastic so you could see its detailed passenger interior, the other being ‘solid’ It had some of the most intricate operating trailing edge flaps I’ve seen on a kit. I think it was made by IMAI and it crops up occasionally on eBay, well worth seeking out if you’re a fan of the aircraft.

Neil.

Thanks Neil for the heads up on the kit. Your lucky to have seen the 767! I've only seen printed ads. Will have to look at youtube to see one in action. The DC-3s were fun to ride on!

I’ve just remembered that the decals were very thin but good quality self adhesive type. It’s a great kit.
