Default Which B747 is your absolute favorite?

Hello everyone

Since I won't be buying new models for some time, as I am working on a new AMD Ryzen 7 3800X & AMD Ryzen 9 3950X workstation builds and doing my B747 Cabinet upgrade mod some time later in the year, I thought make a new thread that asks what everyone's favorite B747 might be

And to keep myself active here threads like this can be quite fun and interesting

So hereby I shall ask what is your favorite Boeing 747?

B747 type Passenger or Freighter, or Special or Military or NASA all is acceptable
What Airline Company?
Any livery classic, current or flying artwork, doesn't matter
Concept Art, Prototype or production B747 doesn't matter
B747 series type B747-100, 200B, 300, SP, 400, -8 same for 500X, 600X & 700X, it won't matter can be any
Diecast Metal or PVC Models to even model kits all are acceptable
Scale doesn't matter since this is a global question.

The one I love most is the National Boeing 747-135, the style National used the livery colors were simple yet they really stood out, that 747 logo with the SUN KING title name in it just fantastic!

So here she is

Boeing 747-135
National Airlines "Sun King Livery 1970-1975"
N77772 "Patricia"
Scale 1:200
Inflight 200

Limited Edition 1 of 36pcs

That typo tho, @IF200 it's a B747-100 not B747-200, even the box displayed the name wrong A+

Reasons are well the beauty and simplicity this livery brings left alone that massive 747 logo with the SUN KING titles in it, it's perfect on all ways the Sun King logo on the tail fin the orange and golden yellow cheat line and how the first class area is full orange how the two colors meet that and with the chromatic belly, that all is to me the perfect livery of what the airline National Airlines was trying to represent in the best ways possible.

So my DA.C B747 friends now I look forward to what your faved B747's are

No I mean which one as the post clearly asks, and I too had that problem trust me if you would pick just one, which would it be?
it's not easy, sure! But I am sure everyone has an absolute favorite, which is what I want to find out in this topic

And it took my a while to really find out, but every time my mind goes back to my NAL B747-135, even I never seen one in real life, except on a photo which I still have of it, it resembles a lot of purity of an original design that was not reused by others and it would still stand out well even for these days, here's that photo I always had with me of it, this was the day it was brand new, then that polished belly how it reflects the grass.. just lovely:

I'm assuming you're asking for favourite 747 not favourite 747 model. I wish I could sort out how to link up photos from my Flickr account but I think they've changed things around so I'm unable to. Anywho, this will always be my favourite 747 (followed by Pan American's "Clipper Young America").

Not sure I can single out one? Canadian Proud Wings B744 is very nice. RAM B747-SP I also like. My favourite Freighter is obvious. .

City of Everett is nice yea, but not my favorite even without it, the B747 would not of been a thing true, still a cool and understanding choice

As for my favorite Australian B747 that would be AAL's B747-312 the VH-INJ with the Sydney 2000 01 artwork

Boeing 747-312
Ansett Australia Limited "Southern Cross Livery 1997-2007"
VH-INJ "Sydney 2000 01"
✈️
Scale 1:200
JC Wings / BBOX

Ansett needs more love at times for that part

Also it is fine if you have more favorites, but yea my absolute fav will always be the NAL B747-135.

I'm going to have to agree with Arinmuk above and say that my current favorite Queen is the Lufthansa B747-8i SiegerFlieger. It is just gorgeous with it's simple, yet elegant, livery and larger than life lettering. Such a beauty!!

My favorite is the TWA 747-100 which also happened to be my first diecast model. A close second is the TWA 747-200. My second to last flight on TWA was a 747-100. But I also have memories of the 747-200. We went business class to Hawaii and flew upstairs. Good memories.

Love that TWA B747-131 man very gorgeous model too!

Yet didn't they have an upper deck lounge at the time you flew with them?

Gorgeous birds you've got there, Arctic9048!

My first diecast model was also a TWA 747, but it was rather the Boston Express 747SP from IF200. Still one of my most prized models, since it was what started it all for me

That is amazing still especially when it comes to the B747-100, 200 & SP series, upper deck rides are quite the rarity!

If you have any pics of those moments feel free to share

My first diecast B747 was the SAA B747SP-44 ZS-SPE "Hantam"
This fella which I placed on display under my SAA B747-244B the ZS-SAO "Magaliesberg"

Boeing 747-244B
South African Airways "Bandit Livery 1971-1984"
ZS-SAO "Magaliesberg"
Scale 1:200
J-Fox Models

Boeing 747SP-44
South African Airways "South African Flag Livery"
ZS-SPE "Hantam"
Scale 1:200
Inflight 200

Limited Edition 1 of 312pcs

The nose gear of the SAA B747SP-44 is kind of in the incorrect angle as the photo clearly shows.
If I found out much earlier like back when I bought it, I would of returned it for an other one.

Even so I tried to move it to it's normal position, but never managed to so I kind of left it be.
It doesn't bother me anymore though, kind of got used to it being like that

I don't have pictures of the upper deck, unfortunately. This is what I found from the -100. Certainly not A.net quality but it's what I got. These were in Honolulu.

Here's another photo I found from that trip of my dad & me. This was at Kona.

Here's a print I keep in the house:

My favourite 747 is British Airways, Boeing B747-400 "VictoRIOus" (Aircraft registration: G-CIVA), made by Inflight 200 (IF747BA001).

Model was released back in 2016, and is quite hard to find!

@ plane737

Ah yes of course Viasa's B747-273C very nice choice I remember KLM & Viasa using one of KLM's B747-206B's had a combo livery once, Viasa on the left side and KLM on the right side, from what I recall this was PH-BUG

@ arctic9048

Those pics are worth gold man very nice to see that they kept the upper deck windows three on each sides even having business class up there, interesting, the Bar & Lounge mostly had the 2x 3 window config and when seats were placed up there the B747-100's & 200's were updated with 10 windows on each side, very cool pics also love that wall picture frame of the TWA B747-131 in flight golden memories for sure!

@ carparadrom

Great choice that one that is the one with the golden nose right?
BA's B747-436 that being and yea pretty hard to find but not impossible, afaik JC Wings also made one, might have to pick one up if I come across it

Just wish that JC Wings like Gemini jets 200 did more classic B747 liveries, that would really rock my world.

My favorite retro also Gold Leader. I only flew on her once from MIA to LAX, iirc for a motorcycle race at Laguna Seca raceway as my Dad was into BMW bikes back then. He worked for National since 1964 and when Nationals 1st 747 arrived at MIA, he took me onboard after work to check this new beast out. i was only a 10 yo at the time, but i never forgot that day...

Also consider yourself extremely lucky with that model I linked you back then, only 36 samples were made by Inflight 200, with Shipping , insurance and Custom Taxes I paid a hefty price of 345 Euros but then again for my Favorite B747 it's surely bloody worth it! NAL B747-135's aren't your everyday B747 models you'd come by either
Hmm how was it from the inside as the cabin goes the color of the seats were they orange and golden yellow as well? also how was the upper deck lounge, so curious now actually

@ 11Sqnldr
HP when I read that I think of my HP ZR24-w Professional HS-IPS panels as in Hewlett Packard hah, but damn didn't know Herpa Wings made a Herpa Premium of ANZ's B747-419 very interesting, cool livery as well them blue ribbons do make that finishing touch for that livery.
That does make me wonder if they ever did an ANZ B747-219B as well in ANZ's delivery livery from May 22, 1981, hmm that might be interesting as well
Just a shame they are not diecast metal though, imagine that with translucent glass windows for the price they go for, to me that would be far more worth your coin for what you pay for those things, just my thoughts there though

But yeah, that is definitely a decent choice for sure!

Keep them coming guys!

Please, be more specific ...
B 740-100, -200, -300, -400.
A specific livery or the release made by a specific manufacturer ...
Or a specific manufacturer ...

The flaps down models recently available are excellent.

I have a ANZ Herpa premium model which is fantastic.

@ StillAir

Hey nice selection there, but the QF B747-438 VH-OJB ya mean aka Wunala Dreaming 01 or the QF B747-438ER VH-OEJ Wunala Dreaming 02?
And how do you mean that Wunala is at home? I thought the pics you sent are also from your home. got me confused there for a bit hah xD

Ansett's VH-INJ love that choice!
Glad I was able to buy your spare one back then, it's my favorite Australian B747!
And I just have a lot with Ansett Australia Limited, so still major thanks for that fabulous opportunity!

As for the Year of the Dragon, join the club I too was born in the Chinese Year of the Dragon, that Cargo Dragon Air B747-3H6M(SF) is a very cool model, good fitting choice, hmm.

@ AIR FRANCE 340

Oh my post and question is specific and to the point

Which B747 is your absolute favorite?

Doesn't matter what B747 type, what company or what livery, it can by anything B747 related.

For example it could be a B747-400 LCF for example, an AF B747-128 in Air France Delivery Livery from 1971, every B747 counts, it's not that hard as everyone else posted theirs

Mine will always be the National Airlines B747-135, for an other it can be the QANTAS B747-438 VH-OB Wunala Dreaming 01 or a Fed-Ex B747-245F/SCD for example
it can be anything just as long it's a B747

it won't matter what livery, what B747 type or what company, even if it's a freighter or a passenger variant, Diecast Metal or PVC, that won't matter, even if it's a modelkit @ scale 1:72 for example, all good!
Or even a prototype, you name it anything B747 related is welcome

So yeah what is your absolute favorite B747 AIR FRANCE 340?

p.s. I did edit the first post with what I seek, hope this helps

Yaaas <3 Cathay Pacific Airways B747-467 very nice love the flaps down mod looks like this one was done by JC Wings, I have a friend named Brad Shin he does these as well and I think it was his idea to do this first , I'll always love his work tho.

An other favorite of mine is the Cathay Pacific Airways B747-267B the VH-HKG "City of Hong Kong"

Which is this classic Beauty when there was a Golden Widget within the Swire Logo to honor the British Royal Family:

Boeing 747-267B
Cathay Pacific Airways "Classic Swire Group UK Livery from 1971"
VR-HKG "Hong Kong"
Scale 1:200
J-Fox Limited Edition 1 of 72 made worldwide.

When Hong Kong was from the UK, miss those days, Hong Kong is a mess now sadly

So I really hope Hong Kong will get their independence back, they deserve it.

My top priority when I buy a model is accuracy.

JC Wings and Inflight models (J FOX, B BOX, W Box ...) are all very good.

The 20 year-old Herpa Premium B 747-400s are simply fantastic, just have a look at the landing gear and all the rest ...
I bought long time ago the ANZ model, I should have bought the KLM too.

More recently, I acquired the JC Wings AF F-GITJ last flight Mexico Paris with flaps down.
Excellent ... I also bought, same configuration, the 1998, Coupe du Monde de Foot Ball.

I have 11 AF B 747s, all different, I love them all, they bring back to my mind very good memories.

I know, I did not really answer your question, each of us has his own answer.

Side note : Before I am getting too old, I would like to see the same interest for B 707-120s and - 320s.

That's fine not everyone can master the question of what is your absolute favorite it accuracy is most of all importance to you why not do modelkits from Trumpeter, Tamiya or Hassagawa, Zvesda or ERTL/AMT instead?

They blow these desktop models out of the water easily, that is if accuracy is very important for you, I used to do modelkits in the past I still miss it,. my arthritis like pains made me stop building those and diecast B747's was my outcome even though nothing eats a model kit tbh so I see these diecast models as great alternatives if I have to be correct about that.
Even I respect your choices so no worries there also no one is too old for models or model kits, that's pure nonsense to me

Also going from scale 1:72 to 1:200 did feel like a downgrade, but since I live ina much smaller living space, 1:200 does quite okay
My models were mostly military based but I did have a scale 1:72 Boeing B52D Stratofortress, Boeing E3-A Sentry, Northrop B2A Spirit, Tupolev Tu-22 Blinder B, Tupolev Tu-22M3 Backfire C, North American XB-70A Valkyre as well as a Custom modified DouglasKC-10A Extender plus 50+ jets & choppers... Ahh well sometimes changes happen in your life and even I kpet around 11 of the 80+ models I had back then it's something I'd always miss sadly.

A scale 1:72 Boeing 747-400 was always on my hit list back then and preferably British Airways with Landor Livery, a B747-436 for that part.

This is like choosing a favourite child there are so many to choose from.

For me I can narrow it down to 2.

By the narrowest of margins my favourite 747 of all time is KLM in 90's livery, followed closely by CP Air , Orange is Beautiful
I am talking about real aircraft not models.

I had 2 posters on my wall during my college days.
One was a KLM 747 cockpit, the other is the CP Air image shown below. My class mates either hated or loved the CP, there was no middle ground, it was about a 50-50 split.
Curious to hear your opinions regarding CP.

Actually, they did. They already released the Avianca HK-2980X

And the Avianca HK-2000 in the AV-Tail livery

The only one I am still expecting is the Avianca HK-2000 in the Red-Tail livery

Let's keep our fingers crossed!

United Airlines
Saul Bass big United title livery from late 80's to early 90's
I only have the Gemini 1/400 United SP "Friendship One"
I have been looking at getting an Inflight200 version or waiting till Eastern Express 1/144 scale SP model kit comes out and build it myself.

@ Baerke

Hah yeah same here love classics heck even today they would really stand out and look great!
If you seek a true American Classic as well regarding Continental Airlines hmm, then I Shall DM you something fabulous You'll love it
As that batch you posted the Delta Airlines B747-151 looks really nice with that Widget Livery, that was Delta's best ever to be very honest.

@ Mr Burns , very cool choice, if you seek the 1990's livery on a KLM B747-406M you could try and grab an IF200 PH-BFV if you seek this livery with the slogan "The world is just a click away" otherwise just grab a PH-BFR that does not have that slogan on it and the White Swans hmm.

Here's my PH-BFV sporting that classic 1989 KLM Delivery Livery for their B747-400 series, this being a B747-406M:

As for that CP Air, yeah a pretty unique method of painting an airliner, rarely heard of that company, not really known where I come from, even I have seen models and pics of it from here as well as in my FB groups, but personally not really familiar with it.
it's always good to be different and still a very nice livery scheme and a very original idea and yes Orange & red do look nice with polished metal

But still KLM's B747-406M with that KLM B747-400 delivery livery beats the CP Air B747-217B for me, I'm just more familiar with KLM's looks.

@ Goose

Well that's nice, it seems you re-posted the same pics per accident?
The top one looks the best hence the polished belly it has.

@ Schalldampher

United's B747SP-21's in Saul Bass Livery, should not be that hard to find , I can always help ya out of that is of need

United bought the B747SP-21's from Pan American World Airways, hence they use PAA's Boeing customer code number 21.

Well, these JCWINGS B747's are here in my office at the airport (around 20 at the moment)

Each day I took one of them out of its box to be placed by my side

But I also have from each (except the ANSETT) their IF200 versions at home presented in various glass cabinets

Yeah I meant your home and yes VH-OJB is Wunala Dreaming 01 and VH-OEJ is Wunala Dreaming 02, that second one is a B747-438ER these went in service after 2002, VH-OJB is older and had the Wunala Dreaming art at first, it's engines are also painted, VH-OJB is more of the real deal tbh.
But anyway I didn't get that the pics you showed were from your office display , I thought they were from your home, hence why I was questioned of that.

As for duplicates I never saw reason for that, I always prefer to vary my choices so there is space for one of each instead
