This is probably the most exciting new 1/200 model I have seen in quite some time. Very cool! I'm thrilled to see some polished metal DC-4s.

Awesome model. Let's hope the picture is an indication the model is now imminent for arrival. Can't even remember when I ordered it, but can't wait to collect it.

Btw, KLM operated both the C-54 A and B and later added the DC-4, The C-54 was built in great numbers, About 1.200 in total for the WWII effort. Quite a few of these planes went to airlines in 1945. In 1946 the first DC-4 arrived. In total 28-30 airplanes have been used.

Indeed a great year so far!
What do we want next?
For me it's a Convair 240 or a DC-7F Speedfreighter.

A connie from AC200/Western Models
A Convair CV240 as a new mould from Herpa or Gemini
A DC7 as a new mould from Herpa

I really hope these will be made in the near future!!

Thanks filip for the heads up. Looks like Herpa have done a good job. Particularly like the exhausts & aerials. Nice to see
someone catering for the propliner brigade.

HM did do a polished American Airlines but the process was too expensive for them. Herpa's DC-6 & Viscount releases
are polished so they can make the the sums work.

As for a KLM DC-7F, couldn't wait....

I have this one, a WM, but after so many years, it does not look presentable.

On this particular model the clear decals became particularly yellow while on most of the others they are still fine.

There is an option to give this model a second youth, new decals are available from F-DCAL the French decal maker, that's what I did on a spare Constellation that I improved, but doing that, it is no longer a WM product.

Ah yes, the dreaded WM decal yellowing. At least the Herpa DC-4 won't suffer the same fate. Tarnishing maybe. As
for your KLM DC-7C, worth leaving in direct sunshine before going for those new decals. Although you may need
to wait until next summer!

Aeroclassics once made a DC-7F (1:400) which turned our pretty nice. I am secretly hoping they will make the 1:200 version as well.

I have not seen your pictures of the DC-7F before Argosy. Is it in 1:200, selfmade or custom?

It was a 1/200 BOAC Western Model which had fusleage crack, so after a repair, I did a KLM diagonal tail scheme to go with the Viscount & Electra.

Count me in! Pls the 'short' Conny, either L-049 or L-749 with polished finish. That would be the ultimate on my wish list. And the Seven Seas in Henrion's epic first crown logo livery.... YESSSS!

good days are coming,

cheers VJ

That's true Jean Pierre, changing or adding to the model makes it no longer an original. Nevertheless I have done that a few times on my Connies.

I have made my own DC-4 (or actually a civil C-54B Skymaster) using a plastic CMD model as a donor aircraft. I still have another donor for a future KLM built. Finding landing gears for these aircraft was difficult. One set I found at an aviation exchange, one directly from HM in Hong Kong. My decals came from F-DCAL as well.

Not to contradict you in keeping models original, but your additions would make it one 'JPC' original. And I think that all forum members recognize the added value to that!

Compliments on your DC-4 Marc! The only KLM 1/200 with 'Flying Dutchman' livery in my cabinet is a plastic DC-6A.

Its not the best detailed model, but she is rare. It was a single issue for the KLM pension association in 2007 and desperate in need of some company

By the way, do we notice that the banner "De Vliegende Hollander" was in Dutch on the right and in English language on the left side of the fuselage? Now back to the new DC-4... lets hope they get this corrected on the final models.

cheers, VJ

For Herpa's new DC4 with registration PH-TAR this is correct; on both sides with the title "THE FLYING DUTCHMAN".

I was convinced that all KLM aircraft from that area had both Dutch and English banners. Learning on the job here! Thnx, its a kind of relief for such a beautiful model.

That was a nice find VJ. Since we are talking about modifying models, I am trying to modify this exact model to a DC-6A Liftmaster, the cargo version of the DC-6B Skymaster.

That was my thought too!
One fully polishe (DC-4), one with a white roof (C-54B) and hopefully another one (C-54A) once the decals I ordered come in. This last one flew with Netherlands Government Air Transport which operated all flight just after WWII but planes were owned and operated by KLM.

Herpa's DC-4 also has a very refined flightdeck windscreen. Very nicely executed compared to their hit'n'miss DC-6s. I hope Herpa does a DC-4 that interests me—I'd really like this model in my collection.

Nice work Argosy and I am sure one of a kind.
So far my KLM cargo fleet only includes 747's and a DC-8, so a prop is long overdue.

I've heard of that before. For how long (roughly) and wouldn't that suck certain colour pigments out as well?
