Re: 1/200 WM UK Eastern Martin 404 arrived...and..
That’s a bit rough. I thought Eastern’s Martin 404 livery included a light blue rudder not an Alitalia green one and the anti-glare panel seems to favor the first officer more than the captain. Anyway, the rest of you collection looks very nice.

That’s a sweet looking model. I don’t think any UK or European airline ever operated them, so they were rarely seen this side of the pond. I can remember my late uncle who worked at Heathrow many years ago, saying that a Martin 404 belonging to Frank Sinatra visited the airport several times.

Very nice classic collection.
It looks like the anti glare black paint is not centered at the nose of the 404 on the second picture, but maybe I am mistaken.

Many thanks for sharing pics of your “new” Martin 404. After the TWA appeared a few months ago was wondering what had
happened to the Eastern & Piedmont.
Good to see it now has a single nose wheel. Odd that they added prop spinners. These were only seen on about 3 corporate,
private 404s. Decals & application aren’t too good. Still unsure about the WM UK's tail-fin it does look better with the EAL logo
on it. Have to say I prefer your one. Love the attention to detail, adding that air scoop for example.
N710E visited LHR in April 1962 on Frank Sinatra’s world tour.

My Southern 404 also has engine exhausts, open engine cowls and the engine "scoops" as well (oil cooler?). Hard to see with the dark blue paint. Thanks for the comment.

Beautiful models! Thanks for posting.
I see you have the C-133 Cargomaster. If it's a Sky Classic from ARD, I have one too. I don't know how long you had it, but after a year I got mine, some of the landing gears cracked and crumbled because of the sheer heaviness of the model I was able to to repair it and substituted some of the crumbled wheels with the old rubber tires from way back when they used to sell it for the Wooster 1/250 models. Anyway, try to protect the wheels by coating it (heavily) with clear glue and let it sit on on some foam to cushion it. I do the same also for all my Sky Classics and WM models that are really heavy (C-141B, C-124 and the Belfast).

Yes, Sky Classics ARD. Thanks for the info, I'll keep an eye on it. So far so good.

I flew on a Southern Airways 4-0-4 on an Atlanta-Athens GA run back in 1974, and I remember being confused by the plane. I thought it was a DC-3 at first, not paying attention to the tricycle gear. I was hoping the ancient plane would make it, especially when there was a backfire on takeoff.

When I was a kid in the 50s and we would fly piston engine aircraft it was always a delight to have them start the engines at night and watch the flames

I am now fond of the Southern Martin 4-0-4 but not always. I flew on it in about 1975 when my grandmother got fed up with my antics during a summer visit. She took my 11-year-old self to the Oxford, Alabama airport, bought a ticket and put me on the 4-0-4. After takeoff she called my dad and said, "He will be in Atlanta on Southern in about 30 minutes, you should probably go pick him up." All I remember was a hippy sitting across the aisle who spent a good portion of the flight with his face in the puke bag. My dad picked me up at ATL and did not have much to say.
