Default British Airways BOAC Heritage (Lupa and Gemini)

Hey all. My British Airways BOAC Heritage 747s arrived this week, both the LUPA/Inflight and the Gemini flaps down. Both models are great, and I love the flaps-down on the GJ, but as with my 2 other most recent GJ 747s this one sits tail heavy. I am not sure whether it is just a balance issue, or whether the nose gear is too long. In any case - here are some pictures...

Inflight/Lupa first

Then the GJ. I think this one will have to be displayed on a stand though.

..and while I was in a BOAC mood, here are a few of my BOAC "fantasy" models. Haters look away now.

Great pictures and great collection! The G2 744 Flaps Down does appear to sit a little nose high and would explain being tail heavy. I have the JCW Cathay Pacific Flaps Down, but display it on the stand so I don't know if I would have the same issue.

The BOAC scheme really suits the 787, and the OPs BA collection is simply sublime.
Caught in a dilemma, i was gonna go for the 747 with flaps, but that balance issue is putting me off now

Great collection and set up! Noticed the long front gear on my recent gj/jc 747's too.. looks kind off weird to me. Anyway, beautiful pics!

Nope, don’t have that one. I don’t have too many props in my collection.... still too many jets to collect.

The nose up issue has been around for quite some time, especially when placed side by side with an IF version.
It seems easily fixable, a slightly shorter nose wheel assembly, done.

The long nose wheel strut is to simulate it being non-compressed, free of the weight of the aircraft. Flaps down version is to be displayed on stand, as if coming in for landing...

A stand with a very short arm and with a plate representing a portion of runway, the aircraft being a few feet above the runway just before touch down would be something to consider.

Of course the plate should be large enough to identify a portion of runway and should represent the touch down zone with the appropriate markings.

The numbers showing the direction of the runway (QFU) would mean an approach below the glide slope.

This stand giving the right attitude of the plane could be bought as an option.

Any thoughts ?

Jean Pierre.

...and the wing landing gear tilted at 52° just like the real aircraft and the Herpa Premium would be perfect ...

You're totally right about that Pronto, I forgot this was a flaps down model.
The issue I was had in mind was the slightly too tall nose gear of the GJ/JC flaps up model, especially when compared to IF. Lots of pictures this on the forum.

That sounds like a great idea JP.
You could also forget about runway numbers if you land on the displaced threshold, ducking fence huggers included

Nice shot and thank you for this picture Mr Burns, no doubt that this aircraft is going to land short of the runway threshold.

I know that at Saint Marteen with its 2300 m long runway it is quite usual but in case of windshear or misjudgment of height above the ground it can be dangerous.

I would prefer a more classic representation of the runway.

Jean Pierre.

You might try swapping the fuselage main gears. I had a Gemini that was tail heavy until I did the swap. Charlie Alpha recommended saying the fuselage gear fit both ways. The wrong way and it's tail heavy.

My UAL flaps down is displayed on its gear and no tipping issue.

Yeah, swapping the gears helped on my other tail heavy 747s, and did too on this one. If the nose gear is supposed to be “uncompressed” for display on the stand, is there supposed to be a “compressed” one in the box for wheels down display? That would make sense, but mine only had one nose gear in the little plastic packet.

Yeah mine had only one nose gear. I normally would display a flaps down on stand, but wanted to have it in my living room and the only place available is on a lower shelf on a glass coffee table. Not enuf clearance for inflight config.

there’s two different size nose gears with a Gemini 747 with flaps! one for landing mode on the stand where the oleo is extended and one for the ground compressed. you can see here are two distinct different sizes...

Do you know if the Farewell to the Queen with flaps down is supposed to have 2 sets of nose wheels? The only thing I got were the gear replacements and an extra set of outboard leading edge slats.

The existing nose gear is compressed--which is fine for me.

Thanks CV. That makes sense. Unfortunately, mine was missing the compressed gear. I will get an email off to GJ to see if they have any spares.

I was curious about this so I checked my own model. It did indeed come with two nose gears, one compressed in one extended. So hopefully they can just send you a replacement one. It is quite a stunning model!

Agree.. this has to be one of the best 747 models in my collection and mine came with both versions of the nose gear as well.

Is the extra nose gear only for that, or are all the flaps down supposed to have them?

Please clarify: do they include 2 sets of nose gears to Boeing 747 (BOAC) British G2BAW834F or to the Lupa version?
P.S. I purchased GJ flaps down version (parcel has already been dispatched) and I prefer the ground compressed mode )

My JC Wings JASDF 777-300er flaps down came w/ 2 front gears. One compressed and one not.

Strangely, my JC Wings Cathay Pacific 747-400 flaps down came with only one front gear: compressed.

The GEMINI Boeing 747 (BOAC) British G2BAW834F that I received came with 2 sets of nose gears.

The nose gear issue was addressed above. Mine is pictured with the uncompressed gear while on the ground. It should have the compressed gear. As soon as I get a set of the compressed gear I will reshoot pictures.

If you want to display the "Gemini BOAC flaps down 747" on a stand you can use the extended front gear just like a real landing 747. If you don't use the stand you can use the other one. 🙄 Not a production error. Btw, cockpit windows are fine imo.

I spent fifteen years behind cockpit windows of various B 747s, I have to say that they look fine.

Thumbs up Re: British Airways BOAC Heritage (Lupa and Gemini

First: I have the GJ in the normal version and I love it

Second: There is only one issue which hopefully GJ could fix for the hopefully upcoming two other BA B744 "100 year" releases...

The passenger window line is just a little bit too low (look how close it comes over the wings )

Otherwise - as said before - a very fine model which was a must-have for me after seeing the original over my house cruising at 10,000m to the Far East
