Default 1/200 Martin 404 Southern Airways custom

I do a lot of customs and I always wanted a 1/200 Martin 404 in Southern Airways livery. I always figured as soon as I started someone would produce one. I have waited 10+ years and after seeing the disappointing Western Models 404 version, I just did my own. I started with a 1/200 Herpa Convair 440. I cut the fuselage, added, cut again, filled, sanded, cut again, cut down the engines, sanded, filled, added details, and filled some more. The tail and horizontal stabilizers are sheet plastic. Lots of primer and paint and then I added the gear, which ultimately came from a DC-4 to make it close enough. To make the wings work I had to actually cut them down and bend the 440 wings and then add flaps and ailerons from sheet plastic. Came out OK, I think. Looks good beside my other custom 1/200s.

Yes, indeed. Turning a Convair into a Martin is most impressive. My customs tend to be re-paints or metal kits.
The only structural work I’ve attempted was removing turrets on a Mitchell & Invader and that was hard work!

After the initial enthusiasm on their announcement, only a few pics of the TWA WM UK Martin 404 have appeared.
But then it all went quiet with no sign of the Eastern or Piedmont. On seeing your post, initially thought they had
done a Southern so surprised to see it was you own creation.

Some pics/info on the other customs on that shelf would be most welcome.

Could WM UK be reworking the mold? Especially the tail? I have the Eastern 404 on order. Hope they get it sorted out.

Great work by the way on this aircraft. I recently read about the Martin 402 version
