Default Gemini 200 vs Aviation 200 Delta L-1011

Went to the convention today. I picked up the Aviation 200 Delta L-1011 version. I picked it up for the polished belly. I'll be selling the Gemini one now.

Yes, that is a little white dot on the nose of the Aviation 200. I didn't notice it at the convention. I may or may not try to fix it. I only noticed it because I took a picture to begin with and zoomed in.

It also looks like a section of the red stripe above the blue cheat line is missing on the AV model. It is on the left side front, between the cockpit and first door.
My AV Delta 1011 is in storage, but I will have to check it now and see if I have the same issue.

Wait. I thought that Gemini's was polished? Must be an older model... And how old is AV200's? There are some floating around for sale, but they're all silver bellies.

I think it’s been a few years. The Gemini -500 is more of a brushed metal than polished.

I have the Gemini version, from the days of having a wider collection criteria. I have to admit that the polished belly of the AV200 version is nice!

Quite a size difference between the antennas on top of the fuselage on the two models. I think the Gemini version may be the older version, from the 1970s, and then they were changed to a smaller one in later years.

You can fix the white dot with a fine point black Sharpie pen. I do it all the time for missing paint on models, provided it’s a very small chip or printing error. It’s easier than painting, and it doesn’t show.

Personally I prefer the Gemini version, though the polished belly and wing detail are better on the newer AV200. I just prefer the Gemini nose and the fuselage white seems crisper, though I guess that is down to the white balance in the photos?

....plus the AV's "Shamu" black nose reaches down further. Not sure which is representing the actual bird more accurately.

Ah. A Sharpie...that is an excellent idea. Thanks.

As for preference...I actually think that the brushed metal look on the Gemini -500 is probably the best. If a -385 version of that existed then I'd probably go for that one. I missed my opportunity when Aviation 200 first released this so I was happy to get a chance to find it.

I will add to that the Aviation 200 version is at least twice the weight of the Gemini. It's as heavy as the C17.

Very nice comparison! Unfortunately I missed the AV200 release..
