Default KLM 100 years

Although I am not a very big fan of special liveries on airliners, I was kinda looking forward to the special 100 years livery on KLM's first B 787-10, to be delivered at the end of June.
A nice retro livery or something entirely different from the current look would have been appropriate for being 100 years in the air under the same name.

I was somewhat disappointed when I saw the outcome yesterday, even though it will still look smart on a 1:200 model.

Will purchase one aswell but really hoped for a nice retro livery on the new 787-10. The 787-10 would have been perfect for the klm livery of the sixties with the blue striped tail. Was really looking forward to a new retro bird from klm...

That will be a great livery ...

KLM will be 100 in October 2019 followed two months later by Avianca.

QANTAS created in November 1920 is the third oldest airline still in operation.

Then we have Aeroflot, Czech Airlines, Finnair and Delta Airlines.

Delta Airlines was founded as Huff Daland Dusters that were renamed as Delta Air Service in 1928.

Well I hope KLM will do this livery on their B747-406M's, the last KLM special livery for their B747, even that the B747 has been around for just over 50 years, that would certainly do their B747s right.
What also would be cool is to see a KLM B747-406M in the same liveery PH-BUA had back in 1971, KLM's White Top livery...

Looking at what KLM did when it turned 95, it appears likely, the 100 years sticker will be put on several different aircraft types in the fleet.

Still I hope you are right with the 747 and they do make a real effort when they send her into retirement with a proper retro look.

From what I know, QANTAS is the third oldest operating airline behind AVIANCA, but the second oldest continuously operating airline because KLM ceased operations during WWII.

Anyone with more information ?

All I know is that QANTAS advertised they were the oldest continuously operated airline. Don't know if AVIANCA ceased operations in WW2 though.

What I know is that KLM flew their European aircraft to the UK, also changing their registrations to G-... and flew some services from there. Some aircraft ended up in the Far East, flying refugees from Indonesia. In 1945 they picked up their regular network activities.

It becomes more complicated reading this article;

My mother and family were in Indonesia and unfortunately interned in a Jap prison camp for the duration of the war. After the war they flew KLM home.

Same with my mother Snowghost. Only my grandmother, mother and her sisters had to take a ship to the Netherlands.

I don't believe they have had a single fatality? If this is accurate, amazing considering how long they have been around.

JP is correct Qantas is the third oldest airline. Qantas did not cease operations during WWII with aircraft that were not on secondment by the Australian government for the RAAF.

No fatalities David. That is sadly not a proud thing to bring to the forefront but it's true. Qantas has won worlds safest airline many times.

I didn't mean to offend anyone by pointing this out. They take maintenance and operations very seriously. One thing I remember a mechanic telling me at work. After each flight, they want each fuel tank dripped for water. In Vancouver's case, it was just done 5 hours earlier in Honolulu. Not likely any water, but it doesn't matter, do it again. They also had straps, I guess you would call them? One end would attach to a fan blade, the other end hooked to the front of the nose cowl. The old 747 engines fans had a tendency to spin in surface winds. Qantas wanted that prevented, as it could cause damage. Just 2 things I have seen first hand, how seriously they take day to day operations.

I still hope there will be an unexpected surprise on at least one airframe at or around October 7th, the actual anniversary date, but I won't hold my breath.

Default KLM 747 Cargo - 100 years

Inflight 200 will be releasing a KLM Boeing 747-400F (PH-CKB) with the 100 years logo attached. It has the updated grey Cargo marking on the tail and the boxed "O" logo, which differs from the initial logo on PH-CKA.

They also will be releasing a KLM DC 9-32 (PH-DOB). It will be the fourth KLM DC 9-32 / -33RC they make I believe (after PH-DOA, PH-DNK and PH-DNY).

Personally looking forward to the first one!

Marc

What also would be cool is to see a KLM B747-406M in the same liveery PH-BUA had back in 1971, KLM's White Top livery...
Nice village too! I've only got about 12 of those. I go to Africa every couple of years and fly KLM so bag 4 of them.

There is also the Orange pride with the "smaller" 100 years logo which I was about to per-order. I have been successfully talked out of that one and switched my pre-order to the biggest 100 year logo in the fleet and that is on the 787-10. Getting a KLM model with 100 years is something I am looking forward to

Thanks Robertjon. Tempting to order that 737-800 in new livery as well....

All KLM aircraft will receive the 100 year sticker.
I agree with Gold Leader, a proper retro livery send off for the 747 @KLM is almost a must. The 1971 livery is also my favourite. It would definitely complete my KLM 747 collection.
I am just afraid we will end up with something similar to their MD-11 retirement, which honesty would not float my boat.

Would be very nice to see a retro KLM 747 but given the time that they remain in service I doubt it will ever happen. A nice retro 787-10 would be much cheaper to do straight from the factory..

I saw that too, but looking at the back order I have with them, I am not tempted to wait fior that to be released.
If manufacturing takes as much time as some of their other models, they better put 105 years on the model straight away.

I hope Inflight or Gemini has the model in shops in time for October, when KLM does turn 100.

I doubt that too.
A Dutch designer even wrote KLM a motivated tweet to go with an original 1971 design for the occasion but probably in vain.

Oh well, that keeps collecting exciting; never really knowing what's next.

My parents did a flight from Rotterdam to Begerac and back and they flew a KLM B737-706 with the KLM 100 Years Livery btw!

So maybe you'll see 1:200 models of the KLM B737-706 as well with KLM 100 years, I'll ask them to mail me the photo's btw.

It would be a stunner in real life! Your comments about herpa are true, the latest releases are months and months too late.. besides if you allready own an inflight or gemini, who would want to buy the Herpa?

That would be neat too, although the -700 is the first 737 to leave the KLM fleet.
What I am really hoping for is a good KLM Asia 777 (either -200 or -300) with the whale livery (and possibly the 100 years logo).
JC Wings did not do a real good job on the new livery around the nose of the aircraft.
I currently only have a BBox 747-400 and Phoenix 787-9 with the new livery and am anxious how JFox (737-800) and Inflight (747-400F) will do on that whale livery.

Herpa is pretty good on some of those classic props I think, but not my favourite for the larger jets. I have a 747-400 full pax from Herpa because I could not find a (non-premium) alternative at the time.
