Default 1/200 Holy Grails???

I am interested in knowing what your 1/200 holy grail models are? Or, what 1/200 models can you think of that tend to hold their value or even increase in value?

Mine in no particular order:
1. Fedex MD-11F
2. ANA 787-9 "R2D2"
3. DHL 757-200 F1 (one is for sale on ebay)

I would think my more valuable ones (at least by double):

Inflight
TWA L-1011 twin stripes bold titles

Gemini
American 757 bare metal
Delta 727 widget
American Eagle ERJ145 old
FedEx MD-11
FedEx 727

Southwest 737 Canyon Blue
DHL 757

---

I still believe that basing any collection on value is a poor decision. I've sold many things that were of less significance to me but thought that their value had reached a point where it wasn't worth to me what I could get for it at the time. I sold my Gemini American 727 probably 3 years ago for $250/275. I remember when I could have sold the American MD-80 and 737-800 for a pretty penny but now it's completely different.

The ones I keep that are high value are the ones that I really, really want.

For me:

Braniff Calder DC-8-62 and 727
Braniff Lavender 720-027
Braniff 747-127 N601BN White Nacelles
Braniff 727-227 N403BN-anything over $100. Is too much money.
Braniff 720-227 El Dorado (would love to find that!)
Any Braniff BAC.

It is sort of an idea of filling out a collection of jets for me, I'm not convinced I'll ever find airplane models a good investment except for the pleasure of ownership. It's fun to read the history of the aircraft, and enjoy the detail in each model. If they appreciate great, but in the end I'm not paying more than my price, so I'll likely never own the real "premium" models anyway.

If we are talking already released, my holy grail would be the Gemini 200 Spirit of Delta 767.

If we are talking yet to be released, I’d say an LTU (polished belly) MD-11.

I’d hazard a guess the highest value holding 1:200 models currently in existence are the Herpa Premium American A300-600 and KLM 747-400. As for diecast, I guess the Gemini Widget DL 757 and polished American and Eastern 757s have to be up there?

As hard as it's been for me to find an AA polished 757 at anywhere near a reasonable price, I would certainly agree with this. I hope GJ releases a new one sometime soon. I'm not collecting in order for my models to hold value either. It's nice when they do, but that's not my motivation.

As far as other holy grails, they've been in my signature for a while

If you can find them RaiseUp 1:200s have a pretty big collectible value. Not necessarily the best renditions of the aircraft they depict though.

Default Re: 1/200 Holy Grails???

being non religious the wording Holy Grail doesn't fit me, but as favorties I would choose these 5 B747's from my collection:

Boeing 747-135
National Airlines
"Golden Sun King Livery (1970-1975)"
N7772 "SUN KING"
Scale 1:200
Inflight 200

Limited Edition 1 of 36 pcs (if not mistaken)

Boeing 747-124
Continental Airlines "Gold Tail Livery, September 05, 1970"
N26864 "ROBERT F. SIX"
Scale 1:200
Inflight 200 Pre-Production Sample 1 of 10 made worldwide.
( maybe more or less, let me know if possible! )

Boeing 747-412
Singapore Airlines "Tropical MegaTop Livery 2005-2008" ✈️
9V-SPL (The one that did not crash)
Scale 1:200
JC Wings / B-Box

Boeing 747-312 (ex-Singapore Airlines)
Ansett Australia Limited "Southern Cross Star Livery"
VH-EBU "Sydney 2000 01"
Scale 1:200
JC Wings / BBOX

This one is a true gem and extremely hard to find in new state quality:

Here this model on it's nice metal+wooden stand:

Boeing 747-338
QANTAS Australia "Nalanji Dreaming"
VH-EBU "City of Warnambool"
Scale 1:200
JC Wings

For me holy grail models are the ones that I wouldn’t sell, not necessarily the ones that are worth the most.

LTU Tristars (Inflight and JC Wings)
Swissair MD-11s
Swiss A320 (JFox, my office for the next few years)

If I had to chose one model to be made it would also be the LTU MD-11. The first aircraft I flew on D-AERX.

I only have one Holy Grail model made by Small world, and is the actual model of the first aircraft I flew on, a Vickas Viking G-AOCH, in the INVICTA livery, its also the very first model I bought in 1:200 scale witch started my collection of, now well over a 1.000 model's, and one I will never part with.

I just made one of these with a “Rendezvous” donor and some Draw Decals. I have a spare set of decals if anyone is looking...

ukjohna, please post some pics of your custom if you have time...would love to see it! One of the flight attendants was nice enough to give me a spare safety card. Love these safety cards as it shows a pic of the real thing!

I am on the road at present but will see if I get the chance this weekend. It looks much like the one in my Avatar, but British Airways instead of British Asia Airways like the one I already had.

Oh, and I was wrong. Jet Decals, not Draw Decals.

Continental Airlines aircraft with the Meatball livery in 1/200 are usually Holy Grail for me. I hope someday a Continental DC -10, DC-9-30, 737-500, and the A300 will be released. Two of the most most celebrated Holy Grail in my collection is the Inflight 747-200 and Jet-X 727-300.

Not quite done. I still need to add the registration - but it was sunny today so I grabbed a shot of the passenger Chelsea Rose 747s together.

4 Chelsea Rose 747s by ukjohna, on Flickr

Front to Back: British Asia Airways 744 (Inflight Rendezvous donor), British Airways 744 (same donor), British Airways 744 (Bader model), British Airways 742 (Inflight Paithani donor - done before the regular release)
