Default Here my 29th B747! KLM's 95th Anniversary Queen!

Hey all
After a mind battling choice I had to make between KLM's PH-BFH and QANTAS' VH-EBU Nalanji Dreaming both from JC Wings, I eventually went for PH-BFH as my father also has a history with it for a few Business class flights from Amsterdam to New York & Fort Lauderdale for his work
So yeah PH-BFH won this round, VH-EBU will have to wait 4 weeks.

B747 No. 29

Boeing 747-406M
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines "Air France/KLM Livery 2010-Pressent"
PH-BFH "City of Hong Kong" "KLM 95 Year Anniversary October 07, 2014"
Scale 1:200
JC Wings

As the photo's go they are from the seller, I personally will upload better photo's once the model has arrived and that won't be all too long Monday morning by the earliest

Here some pics I got from the seller:

More photo's should be here on upcoming Monday at the earliest, so stay tuned for more!

This is where I bought it:
https://www.diecasttrading.com/en/12...-95-years.html

A shop from Utrecht, The Netherlands , it's about 160KM from me, DHL will ship it fast as always.
Also no worries for custom taxes and high shipping costs either, just ideal.

Hey thanks

And yeah same here dunno what that will be like I hope more shades of orange like they did with that KLM B777-306ER
I just don't get why they even did 95 years , kind of a weird number to choose over going all the way to 100 instead., any idea's why 95 years was chosen?

Yeah that's a weird choice of year. I have a KLM DC-7C with 40 Years Anniversary. Also found a carryon bag with same. Forty years seems odd in a way as well.

PH-BFH is a great model. Note the GE logo missing from the number one engine--just like the 1:1.

That is also weird that they removed the GE logo from that one Engine and not all the others, as if it's a replacement engine maybe?

Just checked PH-BFT that did have it, yeah weird that they would leave that out, hence my thought maybe of being a replaced engine or so.

Afaik we never had 25, 50 & 75 Years right? Also weird so big question if we ever will get 100, good we got this one then, since Q4 of 2021 KLM's last B747-406/406M will take it's flight.
Way too early,as we all know the Boeing 747 was made to last as it's the best aircraft built and designs in the entire world of aviation.

Here the perfect example, this GE ex-PAA B747-121 that is 48.7 years old flew like no tomorrow as if it never aged:

The sound of them JT9D-7A's man just nuts...and the sound is so pure

Here some info of the video it's self:

BANKING LEFT / The Queen of the Skies took her last flight from Victorville today to her new home at Pima Air and Space Museum in Tucson. She was ferried to her final destination by Gary Possert, one of the original Test Pilots on the Boeing 747-100. Volume up!
This airframe N747GE flew a total of 90,000 hours and 19,251 cycles. The aircraft was the oldest #B747 in active service (48.7 years), rolling off the assembly line on October 17, 1969 and making its first flight with Pan Am on March 3, 1970. Video: GE Aviation.

That's difficult to say.. they also celebrated 90 years anniversary when the PH-BXA became the retro 737. I guess they live to the Dutch motto: altijd een reden voor een feestje!

Hope to see a retro 747 this year for KLM but rumors are it will be the First 787-10, planned for delivery in june 2019.. We'll see..

I am hoping for the KLM/Northwest livery that was used on the PH-BFA when it was delivered in 1989, this would look very cool on their B747-406M.
Otherwise the Whire Top Livery that the PH-BUA used, B747-400's can have polished bellies I believe.

Not fond of the B787 it's a pretty boring design like most twin engine aircraft, the Boeing 747 is the best airframe design of all time the most reliable as well.

As one of the builders told me in person:

"747s were the best planes ever built. They were built to last."

And personally if it's not a B747 I won't ever choose to fly it, I prefer the reliable Power of 4 over the Insufficient power of 2.

So it will be by then that I complete the review

Here that lovely KLM 95 Years logo, also note the 5 orange balloons and the single white one

Here the full aircraft from this side, which I will use as display side, also note that the outer engine is missing the GE logo, but it does have them on the inner side of this engine:

Tail shot also revealing the dark blue BOEING 747-400 logo:

Here the Stand shots:

Here the Final Display shots with my KLM B747-306M PH-BUW "Leonado Da Vinci"

Here my entire KLM B747 display:

As B747's go I'm also a Sting fan and for this 29th B747 for my Fleet of Queens it's slowly coming to an end, hence the replacements I still need to do.

Sting - It's Probably Me - Live In Japan (1994)

Many thanks for reading and viewing my photo's of my 29th Boeing 747

Hey thanks!

Yeah this one is very well worth having, 29 B747's now, in January of 2019 I will replace VH-EBU Nalanji Dreaming from Skymarks PVC to JC Wings Diecast Metal.
That is the runner up, VH-EBU was my 5th B747, and going from PVC to Diecast Metal will be worth everything.

PH-BFH does show some minor paint rubs on the 9 of the 95 logo, but I consider such things as weathering, not something I'd return it for.
Nothing is perfect, people aren't, either are models, so all cool there.
Diecast Trading did an A+ job at packing & handling they shipped with DHL and the package arrived in tip top shape, an other store I'd buy models from.
it's good to see the Netherlands has three amazing places to buy great models from

That being these:

Arcunia
Aviation Mega Store
Diecast Trading

These these are my favored Dutch aircraft model stores.

The DA.C Community kind of proved me that Diecast metal models just destroy PVC ones all ways round, so much more realistic and all, so thanks for all the advises than were given to me this good year of B747 collecting.

Hey thanks Steve

And yeah I needed PH-BFH, as for no gears up, yeah that has always been my style enjoy the models as much as possible with as many details as possible, even with the limited space I have the landing gear can be handy for those standing under the ones with stands.

As for this model it's not that hard to find though, you can still grab one from the place I bought mine, Diecast Trading BV Utrecht, The Netherlands:
https://www.diecasttrading.com/en/12...-95-years.html

They ship worldwide as well, but there are a few on ebay that are quite enar your location so I can always DM you those as well

And hah 747 posts just the perfect moment! <3

I hope you were able to find your PH-BFH, also there was a PH-BFT in the older livery, an other that I found out after getting my model is that the belly is light gray compared to the Cool Light Gray of the Wave Livery which has a much whiter tone added to it.

That way the difference is really worth it.

Nah I went for JC Wings' Wave liver for PH-BFT, I have very limited space, and ya well 32 B747's is max for me and I do have some replacements upcoming now, main goal now is to replace all PVC models with diecast versions of them, if they are not available I replace them with a B747 type I had in mind, just taking the days as they come now.

This community proved me that diecast metal is the way to fly for 1:200 models, it's really worth it.

Anyways there are 29 B747's in there at the moment, here a photo of em all:

But hey all of that in just 4 years and not to forget these either, my 1:72 diecast jets, mainly MiG-29 Fulcrums:

And my SST's and other aircraft are in here, my TAA A300-B4-203 will go next to my KLM A330-203 in this cabinet, my two faved non B747 subsonic aircraft in here.
So not to worry not all will go out these are very exceptional ones:

So yeah it's been quite the ride, hereby being thankful for everyone here at DA.C that replied and passed on helpful tips & information

Impressive and well done with your limited space as you call it.

You might decide someday on the IF -BFT, it's a pretty neat addition to the KLM fleet IMHO.

Hah thanks for the kind reply and the tips of the IF200 PH-BFT.

Even I almost went for that one, yet considering JC Wings has a neater method for mounting the main wings over the outdated cradle method IF200 uses, JC Wings became my choice mainly because of that big difference.
And I try not to go for dupes even when it comes to registrations, I still have a few from Ansett Australia & QANTAS to add as non B747's KLM MD-11 95 Years and maybe an A330-203 dunno yet, just gotta sort things out more. VH-EBU is first for Jan 24th so after that I'll see what's next

Congrats with your new queen and KLM addition! True that we are spoiled in the NL as it comes to good retailers. Bought from all three you mentioned and they are very good. You forgot about scalemodelstore, wich has top service and great prices too..

True about the wing box. I can see why some wouldn't like it.

But at the end of the day it is a model, and I don't have a big problem with IF 747s. I think the lack of magnetic gears bugs me more.

Yeah I accept having IF 200 around tho they have the most classic liveries over other brands ARD & J-Fox included.

So I am glad they are around, their B747SP's are brilliant as are their other classic Queens

Only if both IF200 & JC Wings have the same aircraft and same livery JC Wings is mostly my end choice, if not, all good really.

Coming back to this thread because one of my friends and one of my B747 Community members had their very first B747 flight and it was the ride of their life, they flew with a KLM B747-406M the PH-BFH "City of Hong Kong"

Here the video made by my friend and Boeing 747 Community Member Ruud van Goch:

It was as it was an experience like nothing else for him, that being the best flight of his life

Enjoy

@ Rockybudgetboa
Hay Looks great Leslie <3 And yea! it's really not as bad as many say, nice catch there though!
Every Boeing 747 is awesome to me Passenger, Freighter, Government or Military versions all cool here, but it's cool to see you are collecting Queens again too!

It's that I just find it strange that PH-BFW is named City of Shanghai and not City of Wyoming for example hence the W in the registration, some other examples like: PH-BFT = City of Tokyo, PH-BFH = City of Hong Kong, PH-BFB = City of Bangkok or PH-BFA = City of Atlanta, sometimes I kinda lose KLM's idea for naming per reg while the city name doesn't have much to do with the last letter in the registration number hah xD

@Baerke:
And Yeah my friend Rudi was ultra happy he wants to do even more B747 flights thanks to that ride hah just fantastic

Rudi van Goch one of my plane spotter members he seems to be a well known plane spotter Schiphol and also did photography for airline companies, so it felt super cool to see a friend of mine enjoy the B747 for their first time of their life, and even to me the B747 is the best thing that ever happened to me as well, still happy many are still ruling the skies even during the 50 years since they have been around as well.

---------------------
Here my KLM B747's:

Two I flown on myself with my fam and two my dad flown with during his work days.

Top to Bottom:

KLM B747-406M PH-BFT "City of Tokyo" JC Wings

KLM B747-206B PH-BUA "The Mississippi" Inflight 200 1 of 240 pcs Limited Edition

And left from those are these two:

Top top Bottom:

KLM B747-406M PH-BFH "City of Hong Kong - KLM 95 Years" JC Wings

KLM B747-306M PH-BUW "Leonardo Da Vinci" ARD models UK

The first B747 I flew with my my fam was with the KLM B747-206B PH-BUA on Jan 21, 1980 it had the white top livery + Bar & Lounge on the upper deck/
Flight plan:
Amsterdam - Dubai - Singapore - Melbourne - Sudney

And on Dec 21 1985 & Jan 24 1986 witha KLM B747-306M the PH-BUU "Franke De Wittle"

Flight Plan on Dec 21, 1985:
Sydney - Singapore - Colombo - Amsterdam

Flight Plan on Jan 24, 1986:
Amsterdam - Colombo - Singapore - Sydney

Sadly I went with PH-BUW "Leonardo Da Vinci" from ARD models as I kind got confused with the registration, but the also livery of PH-BUW was the same when I flew with PH-BUU back then.
thus I kinda stuck with that as choice as well, other than that to have flown twice with a KLM B747-306M is a very rare happening, as most were converted B747-206B(M)SUD's, also only 87 B747-300's were made worldwide, so to have experienced that B747 type twice was something I'll never forget either.

My Dad flew 1 Business retour flight with a KLM B747-406M the PH-BFH City of Hong Kong back in 2007 for his work in Business Class
Flight Plan:
Amsterdam - Fort Lauderdale

Fort Lauderdale - Amsterdam

in 2011 he flew with an other KLM B747-406M but this time it was PH-BFT "City of Tokyo" but 4 retour lights in Business Class, he needed the cargo bay for his work equipment, there was an acid incident at their main communications center in Sint Maarten, they used 4 large transport containers packed with reconditioning equipment and used this part also to transport large pieces back to the lab in The Netherlands PH-BFT payed a very important role during these 6 weeks, as it was the only B747-406M KLM had available during that time period, so my dad and his work made good use of it.

Flight Plan:
Amsterdam - Philipsburg

Philipsburg - Amsterdam

I've seen quite a bit of Schiphol air spotting on YT lately. Excellent location for catching those heavies.

I also own this model, a real beauty. I was lucky enough to have the airframe in the 95 years livery land over my head at Maho.

Great pictures all!

My first 747 flight was in 1970. Continental Airlines, back when the upper deck was a bar/lounge.

Sorry, I wanted to go for this model but looking at those passenger window lines...
(especially when you compare the position of the upper deck windows to the cockpit windows... that makes me more than angry &#x1f620

Some care about mistakes some don't I for one always read a review before buying things, this makes pre-orders always a risk, also why UI never take part of them unless it's something special I'd be taking part of maybe, but if you don't care about minir mistakes then you'll have a much easier choice to make

Then again modelkits are far more accurate than all of these diecast models so if you want the best accuracy go do modelkits, scale 1:72 was my playground and I do miss it at times, I Still have that scale 1:72 Tupolev Tu-160 Blackjack Bomber from Trumpeter might have to give it a try someday.

Anyways all in all the reason I bought PH-BFH was because my father flew it from Amsterdam to Fort Lauderdale in Business class, he sat on the left side 3rd window in front of 2nd door of left side, just at the rear part of the 9.

Anyways I was hoping to see more reactions related to my topic over than those posting their models that isn't related to my topic at all..if any.. it's great people find their wanted models but if it has utterly nothing to do with my thread please make your own threads and post there thanks.

That behavior is considered as thread hijacking, taking over an other's thread and ignoring the actual purpose of the OP's post/thread content.
This is not something I like or respect or left alone would do to an other.
That to which did rather disappoint me a bit :/

Just wanted to get that out of my mind, as I had troubles wording such things.

Dear Gold Leader,

That is a fantastic stack of 747's! Maybe the most beautiful jet even built. At least for sure one of the most impressive. At this moment I am doing research for a 1/144 build of PH-BUA (white top) to celebrate KLM's 100th birthday. Its gonna be a model with visual interior. For that I am looking for reference images of the old fashioned '70 and '80 style interior. Do you perhaps have some photo material?

cheers, VJ

Hey many thanks for your kind reply Vintage Jet

Well I have a few old pics but the ones i have are rather personal my parents may have more pics of PH-BUA but then again it's all so long ago ya know.

But I do have that KLM Equator Certificate which is in pristine quality it was signed by the KLM purser on January 21, 1980 back then PH-BUA wore the White Top Livery the upper deck lounge & bar were also intact and well used and the galley was in the front lower deck where now the front luggage & storage bays are.

For all my models go here:
