Unhappy Re: Gemini November

"Again" is the word for these releases...

Again... A380 AF

Again... MD-82 AA

Again... DC-9 AEROMEXICO

Again... CONCORDE BA "Landor"

Well, for those who have the original releases I am sorry that their value will go down

There are so many liveries to do and I can't understand all those re-releases

So any word on how this one will be different? What has Gemini done to mitigate the tarnish problem?

Surely you can't be serious. You state this as if Gemini does an American MD-80 every other month. In fact, this is only the second one GJ has done in 200 scale, and the first was 9 years ago and it sold out quickly. AA is perhaps the most iconic MD-80 operator of all time, with over 300 in their fleet at one point. And yet you can't understand the justification for a re-release, nine years later? Are you playing with a full deck?

I welcome the release of an AA MD-82... again.

It's good timing with the type being retired soon. And as has been pointed out, the first release suffered from the tarnishing issue. I'm curious to know what, if anything, Gemini has done to prevent it this time around.

Isn't the tarnishing issue something that is variable as well as inevitable? I've seen a lot of comments about the tarnishing or staining over the years and most seem to believe it is a risk with polished models. That it can vary within a batch and some collectors luck enough to visit a local hobby store, go through a batch looking for one least affected.

I've also read, the only way to avoid it is for the model to be thoroughly cleaned of all marks before the varnish is applied to the metallic finish. A process that can be costly and presumably manufacturers aren't prepared to spend the money on.

Well, actually the previous release was an MD-82. So were the Jet-X releases. Therefore, it is the first release of an American MD-83. N9621A was delivered to TWA in 1998 and is still active with AA.
My Jet-X N400AA has managed to survive without much tarnishing

That is correct. The first two releases by Gemini 200 were MD-82s. There is only one Jet-X MD-83 which was the chrome version with the black radome N569AA.

All I know is that the second release has held up a lot better than the first. We’ll see how this new one goes.

I don't mind the tarnish as long as it doesn't start pitting/metal degradation. More realistic look, though I hope it doesn't tarnish for those that want a pristine rollout version!

Aero Mexico and maybe Air France for me.

^^^^THIS

Plus all the moaning about the previous releases' "value going down" - sorry I didn't realize the manufacturers were in business to make YOU money and if you're collecting because you like airliners then who cares what the "value" is. I mean, sure, I like getting my money back if I end up reselling one but that's not why I buy them.

Personally, I'm delighted because I *just* flew on F-HPJB and I've been scrambling around trying to get hold of the JCW blank A380 and some Air France decals made, and now, voila! I don't have to do that anymore, and I will get a better quality model of the plane I actually flew on.

That's cool. Saw F-HPJJ in Paris--and since it's painted with "Paris" on the fuselage, I'd love to get that one. Have the JCW China commemoration, F-HPJE though.

I scrambled to find Lufthansa D-AIMB "München", in 1:200 which I had just flown on. Also customized a 1:100 DLH A380 for the MB reg, Taufnamen, and a few other additions. All purchases because it's what I wanted, with no thoughts of resale value.
