Question Inflight200 A340-200 Mould Coming Soon?

I guess this will be a companion thread to my Phoenix A342 topic:

https://www.diecastaircraftforum.com...200-mould.html

Update for A340-200 lovers:

So far since this time last year Phoenix have pulled a JC Wings and only released two -200s, bringing the diecast total up to a whopping FOUR in 1:200. Those would be Cathay, Royal Brunei, Conviasa, and Air Leisure. See previous thread for some of the livery possibilities yet to be done. I'm still patiently waiting for my Royal Jordanian.

There remains a huge gap in the diecast lineup to be filled, and I think Inflight might be about to jump on the wagon. Reasoning:

1. Essentially no competition, present or past, on this type.
2. Recent additions to the IF lineup include A332, A333, and A343...
3. The recently revealed new IF200 website mentions new tooling coming soon. Possibly multiple.
4. Their full collection is now listed and selectable by aircraft. There is an A340-200 page, but with no models listed yet. As far as I can tell (didn't check them all), this is the only type listed but without models made or announced yet.

This would be more exciting than the Phoenix mould due to much better quality coming from Inflight, especially their new generation of moulds. IF are also much better suited to this subject given their willingness to produce retro and recent-past liveries, even of the smaller and less-appreciated airlines of the world.

Please speculate wildly.

I noticed the same thing. Think there is a good possibility... would be nice to have a 342 to complete the series in 1:200

Definitely not the old white engines. It was unfortunate that they made that mistake again with the first Dreamliner.

For my money, this is perhaps the most gorgeous combination of airliner and livery ever:

Wow. I've never seen a thread go from rampant speculation to manufacturer confirmation so quickly. Thanks everyone and thanks Inflight200! I'm claiming all credit though.

Now then, any guesses which will be the first models? I would put money on one of the majors like LH and AF; definite sellers. Or, they could pull a Phoenix and make a couple of niche birds and then decide the demand isn't there.

Hope IF will use the correct vertical stabilizer. It should be the same short stabilizer as on the A340-300 and the A330-300, not the taller one from the A330-200. JC-Wings did it wrong and put the tall stabilizer on their A340-200.

Air France had a few of these aircraft, F-GNIA, GNIB, GNIC ...

A model with the old House Colors would be very nice too.
The F-WWBA seen on the picture is now used by the Saudi government.

Well, it took until July, but the first one has been announced:

French Air Force A340-200 F-RAJB

I hope they can get it correctly made beginning with the first example and not have to re-work the mould. The other A330/A340s have been fairly good, but the new A310 needed to be re-done.

Maybe Jean-Pierre can pre-order this one and share the result with us?

I am sure Jean Pierre has this Gem on pre-order 100%. You will have to wait for the preview though. It's too early yet to speculate on a release date for this model. Don't forget that all the new Inflight200 Airbus tooling has gear up options, which was never available on Phoenix or JCW of this aircraft type A340-200 models.

Not bad but a few things could have been better.
The model was sitting too high on its landing gear and the wing flex or dihedral was not convincing.

The artwork is good, the A 340-300s are quite correct.

We can reasonably expect a good -200 but we'll have to be patient for a few months.

Well, you were right about the first point. A few months has turned into a year and a half, however. Recently the Inflight website moved a few (3) of the announced A342s (6 so far) from 'Coming Soon*' to 'New Arrivals' and states that they will be shipped by the end of March.

The example photos look very nice, especially the wing dihedral and a level stance. The window line is possibly 1mm high, no big deal. Not sure about tail height, but there seems to be a pronounced downward slope to the top edge.

Produced:

Announced:

Anyone have these on pre-order?

I have the Sabena as a contact when in. Would like to see pics of the final product but I do collect some Sabena liveries as I have a strong Belgium connection.

Not the best photography, but shows some of the issues mentioned.

Also the Air France Asie is a B-Models release. I can't find a website for them. Are they just the unlicensed brand owned by Inflight, or a separate entity that uses the IF mould like JFox?

I second that, ZuluLima. Not the best photography - and telling from those photos, the nose shape could be a problem. Too pointy from my point of view - but let’s wait and see what the actual model looks like. Doesn’t look as bad on the other promo photos of SAA and so on, by the way.

B Models, J Fox, Aviation 200, WB Models and a few others are there to get around the licensing problems.

As a collector, I am not going to complain, their models are good opportunities to fill gaps in a collection when an airline or its representative drag their feet to commission a model.

The AIR FRANCE ASIE A 340-200 is welcome.

This has already been discussed in the past.

Some of us will regret the dihedral of the THS (Trimmable Horizontal Stabilizer) which is a bit too pronounced, they are right.
If we except this detail, but to me it is not a deal breaker, the model is excellent.

A side note : The most accurate rendition of the original A 340 remains the cheap snap fit Hogan model and the Herpa all assembled model released some twenty five years ago.

The level of details is not what we are now used to, but the overall shape is spot on.

The Lufthansa Herpa A 340-300 was the first model available on the market.

Jean Pierre:.
The Hogan/Herpa moulds of the early 2000’s were the best we ever got! When Herpa started to have their own moulds for the Airbus widebodies, those were significantly inferior to the Hogan standard. Do you may be know why Herpa and Hogan separated and discontinued their moulds sharing?

Correct, herpa's choice to use the Lysia molds was not the best, md11, a330 ( not the latest one), a340-300+600 were not near as good as the older ones. I believe that they don't use these anymore.
