Default 1/200 hogan details and quality

So i notice that the hogans are cheaper than jc wings and gemini maybe because it's plastic?

how are the details? spinning engines? i notice the hogan a380 missing the engine nacelle strakes or chines?

does hogan have smaller airplanes like a321 with removable gears? jc wings and gemini doesnt have a321 with removable gears

are the hogan 747-8 787 and a380 otherwise any good?

Thanks.

Yes, Hogan models are less expensive because they are made of plastic. They don't typically have as much as detail as diecast metal models. The level of detail is dependent on how the airline orders the model. They all have spinning fan blades. Hogan produces 737s, A319s, A320s, and A321s.

I really like my Hogan B748F Seattle Seahawks model. I'd buy a Hogan 787 if they were to produce Virgin Atlantic, but they don't. I prefer Hogan vs. diecast because they are not as heavy and the boxes are easier to store.

The main difference I notice is the lack of aerials. I also prefer the paint on the metal vs the plastic.

I love the Hogan line. I probably have 100 of them.

I actually prefer paint on plastic. To me, paint on diecast metal aircraft is too glossy.

Gemini's plastic line was promising but it's a shame they had cancelled. There's no reason why plastic models can't have as much detail as their diecast counter parts. Herpa Premiums are a prime example. Also plastic is a much less expensive alternative to metal and can hopefully provide relief to an ever escalating price point in the hobby. Lastly I'd like to point out the level of detail our friends in the model railroad industry have with their trains and rolling stock. I still have hope a manufacturer will be able to bring us quality plastic models at a much more affordable rate.

PS. I wonder if the new steel and aluminum tariffs will effect the diecast industry?

I have sold off most of my diecast models and am concentrating on my Herpa, Hogan and Skymarks models.

The Hogan MD-11 does have antennas on them

are the landing gears on the hogans a321 removable?

i have mostly 1/400 and most are dragon so i don't mind some plastics. i guess i could give hogans plastics a try.

Would you say the 747-8i boeing color and the airbus a380 and a321 are pretty decent? the spinning engines are good but i wonder why they would leave off the engine nacelle strakes as that's even present on many of the smaller 1/400 dragon ones.

i have several of hogans 1/200 small diecast military ones and they are great!

+1. train models are a prime example. Too bad the collectorate thinks metal equates quality or is somehow more superior than plastic.

Yes, the A321 landing gears are removable.

I can only speak for the B748i because it is the only Hogan model I have now, with the exception of a British Airways Concorde which is metal. I only wish the B748i came with ground config. wings instead of in-flight flexed wings. Boeing probably ordered the models with in-flight wings to show off the flex.

I wanted a KLM Cargo B744 but didn't want to pay IF or Gemini prices. Got the Hogan and very pleased with it.

With the Hogan 787 you could order separately a non-flexed set of wings. Don't know if they made that option available on the 748i

Yes, I remember they did that for the 787, but I've not seen wing sets for the B748.

Do you prefer plastic or metal? I hate plastic, it sucks. Metal is nasty because of poor detail.

Just kidding, having fun echoing a DAC of long ago!!

I have both mediums of construction and am equally satisfied. To me it is all about getting what I want from each mfgr. IMO the zenith of plastic is Herpa Premium. Pricy and rare, few airframes and liveries. Diecast is getting better by the year, witness the WM TWA L-749 that just arrived.

Speaking of Hogan, hope they release a 1/200 Dash-8 in Golden West livery!!

There is not. That is the only thing I do not like about the Hogan B748.

Hogan landing gear is removable on all of their plastic models line.

Seems like maybe Hogan does have a 1/200 in ground config by this link?

A-ha! I stand corrected. There was one released quite a few years ago with part number HG0328G. It did not include a stand for some reason.

My best Hogan is their TAA Airbus A300-B4-203 at scale 1:200 it has all the antenna's on it as well pretty well detailed for a PVC model, I placed it with my Inflight 200 QANTAS B747SP-38 with it's Ochre Livery from 1975

Airbus A300-B4-203
Trans Australian Airlines "Retro 1980's TAA livery"
"Thomas Cook"
VH-TAA
Scale 1:200
Hogan Wings
---------------------------------------------------------
Boeing 747SP-38
Qantas "Ochre Livery"
"City of Gold Coast - Tweed"
VH-EAA
Scale 1:200
Inflight 200

They both make great sense to be displayed in that way I flew on the VH-TAB back in 1985 with that exact livery a shame the model was the VH-TAA just a minor difference

The VH-EAA used to be parked at Perth International Airport on the far right side and also with that glorious Ochre livery which it wore to around 1987-1988.

Good times, Hogan makes to me the best quality PVC models I collected their models more than I did with Herpa Wings, Hogan Wings had far better prices and their molds also were well known of their greater accuracy.

There was a time Herpa Wings also used the Hogan Wings Models for some of their B747 line of models.
