Photos: Dust Proofing Your Ikea Detolf!
Haven't seen this posted on the forum yet, but I had been looking to dust proof my display cases and was finally able to put the time towards doing so... After having researched the web, I reached out to my local Canadian Tire (any hardware store depending on your country/region ex. Rona) and picked up the material.
Material Required: For the Canadian collectors, I picked up this closed cell insulating foam tape from Canadian Tire. The dimensions I found to be suitable were 5mm x 9mm running at 5.2 m (entire roll's length). I ended up using 3 rolls for all 4 display cabinets, though found the lengths to be inconsistent (was surprised/lucky 3 tapes was just enough for all cabinets). A 4mm thick tape would also work, but I found the 5mm to be just perfect to block off the dust. I provided a photo at the end of the exact product used.
Installation: While the tape is easy to cut and install, removing the door will be necessary. Placing the tape at the edge of the walls will be a good location to block off the dust, while allowing the door to open/close. For the top and base, it's a bit trickier as alignment will have to be slightly further back, and depending on how well (or badly) your Detolf is built, you'll be able to either have the tape go laterally all the way, or have to cut it where the metal magnet meets the cabinet. Hopefully it's a little clearer on my photos below. If you can get a roll of 4mm tape, then that would probably work better for the top/base, especially if you want to seal off near the magnet areas.

My bad, I edited the post with another source for photos... I forgot how awful Photobucket had become (meaning they want $$ from you).

This looks awesome! I was thinking of doing the same but was worried about the weight on the glass shelves? Looks like you've had no problems though!
Kind regards,

I have considered doing this to mine, too! I like that you used black foam instead of white, which is what seems to be widely available. The black is not as visible.

Interesting. Here are other options, from a nearby company :
Joints en accessoires de vitrinexpo 27
I used the transparent one to dust proof one of my cabinet. A bit difficult to apply, but with a pretty good result.

What does everyone do for the glass for extra shelves? I have had some glass cut before and it cost more than buying a new case from Ikea.

Try synthetic glass, 4 mm is fine, 5 mm is better for an A 380.

Re: Photos: Dust Proofing Your Ikea Detolf!
I got distracted by your beautifulcollection, and forgot the focus was on the Detolf shelves. Great idea for those gaps, which deterred me from getting them. This changes my feeling about the Detolf.. It looks pretty good. Thanks for sharing with us!
