Default Inflight A 340-300

Inflight is releasing a few A 340-300s, among them, this Luftwaffe aircraft.

Unfortunately, the engine pylons are not correct and the nacelles are a bit disappointing.

With so many photos available, is it so difficult to get things right ?
Detailed documents showing what the nacelles should look like have already been published on this forum.

Pictures for comparison.

My old snap fit Hogan A 340-300 is still one of the best.

Still much better than JC Wings/Gemini's A340-300 in general. Overall I would accept an IF200 A340 into my collection, though they need to fix that tail still.

Here are a couple of better pictures of the IF A340-300. Agree the tail and engine pylons could be better. From the attached pics, the engine nacelles look fine to me.

Thank you Chris for these much better pictures.

My conclusion is that with all the posts published about the A 330 and A 340 tails, we shouldn't have to discuss the problem of the tails again.

To me, the nacelles are a bit too fat, the diameter at the rear should be smaller, the nacelle shouldn't look like a "barrel", the rear part has a conical shape.
That's my opinion when seeing pictures of the Iberia aircraft.
I also attach a picture showing an AF aircraft.

But it is not the main problem, with correct pylons, i would be able to turn a blind eye on this detail.

The pylons and the vertical fin don't require an exceptional modeling skill to make something accurate.

All these flaws on each new model make Inflight products less attractive and undermine collector's confidence.

Please no AF livery and no Airbus roll-out colors.

What we need is a good picture of a Hogan A340 for comparison. It says something that Hogan is still the standard to beat when it comes to A340s.

Hopefully there will be enough blow back from forum members to motivate Inflight to make some changes (like they did with the 777-300ER), but there has to be lot of negative feed back before that happened. Why would the manufacturer spend the money updating a mold if old mold is still selling. I imagine the same is true with this model.

I am not sure that my Hogan A 340-300 will attract great interest.
I attach a few pictures of my model, I wanted to make close-up pictures, but photos taken with an I-phone don't do justice to the model, too much distortion and it is difficult to form a valid opinion.

I don't remember when this model was released, maybe almost twenty years ago, it was commissioned by Socatec who was very active in those days.
The first A 340 being released was the Lufthansa version made by Herpa, same mold.

The model is basic, no antennae, details almost inexistent and it is true that the passenger windows on the rear fuselage are not correct, but the mold is good and there is nothing really disturbing.

Using the Airbus documents showing the general aircraft dimensions and ground clearances, I confirm that everything is fine, including the vertical fin.
The ground clearances of the real aircraft depend on the weight and the position of the CG.
Again everything is fine, the model is within the limits.
Documents available on request.

To make the story short, it is a A 340-300 and in my opinion, it is still the best.
The modern tampo printing which is now available would make this model near perfect.

Much later Gemini came to the market with a model which is nicely detailed, but …
…the model is too high on its landing gear (ground clearance), something around the nose is disturbing, the wing flex could have been better and the engine nacelles look like barrels.

Too many glaring mistakes, I ignored this model.

I heard that we could expect a revised model from JC Wings, things could be complicated because it seems that the tooling belongs to Gemini.
Still looking for a die cast A 340 able to be at least as good as my snap fit Hogan.

I will never say that I am an expert in A 340 but this aircraft was part of my life for five years and I still remember it very well.
This is the reason why some details of the Inflight mold are disturbing to me.

I agree completely with you Jean Pierre. Hogan mould remain the best. And not only the A340-300 one...

It is amazing that a plastic model that sold for around $30 20 years ago is still the pack leader. You would think technology would have improved to the point that someone would have made a better model by now.

I hope Inflight takes note because I think their current mold is the closest in diecast metal so far. They seem to have the nose and landing gear pretty much nailed already.
