This is terrible. There are two 1:200 DC-8s I flew on as a kid and also the 1:400 NW DC-9-30. Expensive month.

Fabulous models and an excellent selection of airlines to release. I took delivery of the Iberia DC-8 recently and it's model making par excellence.

Weird, this is contrary to what AK told me

Swissair looks good. And I was happy with the Iberia as well.

Don't think so as the price is the same as the other DC-8 releases. iirc... models with GSE usually go for a few bucks more...

That's a pitty, would have loved to get some Swissair GSE. Maybe Aeroclassic can release the GSE for iconic airlines separately, like Pan Am, Lufthansa, Swissair and so on.

AC and WM has been hard on the wallet lately, but I'm thankful that they are doing such a great job with this DC-8 mold.

Hi Graham,

Hope all is well & regards from the other side of the pond.

We met back in 2015 at ARD when we shared a cup of tea and some biscuits with Trevor (rest is sole) & Malcum.

Here's a few links to some Aeroclassics/Western 1/200 Scale CP Air Douglas DC-8-41, DC-8-43 & DC-8-53 model airplanes:

Hope that this information helps.

Hi Robert, thanks for the links.I've now got myself sorted out with these "8's". I have pre-ordered the JAL and SWISSAIR from ARD. Sadly I had to pay a fortune for the CP Air and ALITALIA from Aviation Megastore. That'll teach me to take my off the ball. 275 euros for the pair shipped together!

And it hasn't rally started yet either! Those "leavers" need shagging. But think of the benefits, we can be truly independent......what tosh.

Mine arrived yesterday. Not keen on dark green tail strip on Alitalia version. I may get that masked up and sprayed a brighter green.

Both are very nice.. the GSE for the Alitalia is in plain poly bags.. and looks like its been played with...

I didnt notice the green being too dark, I seem to remember some discussion about that and a Herpa Viscount down at Kemption a couple of years ago...

Thing is, shots from that time, the colours are all over the place.. and ones memory plays tricks..

Whats really nice, is that there is very little tarnishing, if any, on the natural metal bits..

I was thinking the same DC8DUDE! We need a 61 series frame with the first being a JAL Crane livery! Come on Andrew...you could not give me a Piedmont DC-3 (although I appreciate the other Piedmonts recently...). What does it take....a free filet at Don P's?

I agree that time and memory can play tricks, but when these aircraft were delivered (Caravelles and DC-8s), they were bright , polished and sparkly.....very impressive. No way was that Alitalia green tail the same shade/pantone reference as Aer Lingus green upon delivery. Aer Lingus is positively dull. Looking at images the green varies enormously I agree. I wonder if the darker green was introduced some years after delivery. The later more modern Alitalia scheme definitely has darker green cheat line.

Yep one or two have been quite vocal as to the Alitalia green and the colour shots from the sixties can support either claim... they might well have changed the shade.. It would kinda fit with other things Italian such as Gucci which is a darker shade.. Personally I prefer the darker shade which is why I snapped up Mr Beacom's modified Herpa Viscount..

......bit like the BEA wings, as kids we were transported regularly between London and Renfrew and I remember Vanguard wings as being mattish red... certainly not pillar box... I can remember that... cant remember what happened yesterday though...

Some photos of the DC8 on the AMS website.

JAL and KLM, no photo yet of the Swissair: these models are very very nice.
Ordered all 3 DC8's , I could not resist.
Andrew, please bring us the Pomair DC8 OO-TCP in the original colours.

Nice photo Jean Pierre. Orly doesn't look very busy. My black and white photo was one I took myself in 1961, It was a quiet day so I just strolled out to the edge of the ramp and clicked away. Happy days !

That KLM DC-8-30 is especially attractive !

Generally,I think that Aero Classics 200/Western Models are the most accurate of all
1/200 scale diecast airliner models.

JAL DC8 sold out in a matter of hours at aviation megastore! She's very popular!
