It would be interesting to see a few aerial pics with the rear section of the engine extended. The rear section of the engine was not only a thrust reverser, but also served as a noise dampener. Early (non turbo fan) DC-8s almost always taxied and flew in the vicinity of airports (particularly on approach due to noise abatement procedures) with the rear section extended. Most airlines left the reverser section extended even at the gates due to their use during taxi. From the ground, you almost never saw an early DC-8 with the reverser section closed.

The turbo jet DC-8s were noisy enough even with the reverser section extended!!

Being anywhere near them on take off was a real treat if you liked noise. You also got treated to a BIG cloud of black smoke even if they used didn't use water injection!

I seem to remember reading that the DC-8 could deploy the ejectors and reversers in flight to slow down.

Well since AC recently released the 1/400 striped tail 50 series PH-DCK , i bet it will be announced alongside the PH-DCY pictured above or not long afterwards. THAT will be the one i want!
