Default Sending a model to a friend in Europe

Hey guys,

I thought I would ask on here as you guys are such a great portal of knowledge. I read a lot of your posts, but don't often post as I'm still new to this hobby.

I'm trying to send a gift (Gemini 200 model) to a friend in the Netherlands from the UK. I have found postage with DPD, are there any customs issues or paperwork I need to worry about?

Many thanks!

Hi, one good advice to avoid custom issues is always to mark the parcel as a gift,
an airplane toy and add a low value to it.

Not sure if there should be any other
custom issues within the EU though...
(or has this Brexit thing already been effectuated..?)

No custom issues at all if you want to send a parcel to the Netherlands. And by the way, DPD is a good option but I think Myhermes would be slightly cheaper.

Thank you guys for the quick responses! How low should I mark the value? I was considering around £100 in case the model was damaged or lost in transit, but perhaps that's too much?

Thank you for the nod of approval for DPD. I do like how good their tracking is, myHermes was my second option but it looks like they will take much longer (4+ days vs 2 days with DPD) and are around the same price. Many thanks for your thoughts!

Kind regards,
umk747

No additional VAT/Tax or import duty is required to send a model from UK to NL since we're both still EU.

Use an insured shippingoption and use the regular value (if requested), just in case the parcel gets lost.
When you have used a lower value, you might get that low value when the parcel is gone missing.

Use DPD, Hermes might be a little cheaper, but i think DPD is the better option for delivery here in NL

If its under 2 kilos, try POSTAGE SUPERMARKET.COM they also do over 2 kilos, but will take up to 14 days or more to deliver outside u.k. or if over 2 kilos I use TRANSGLOBAL EXPRESS.COM both use all the different carriers, and prices vary at times. but with transglobal, items are always delivered in 2/3 days usually. as said, no customs forms for European destinations.

Thank you guys! I am glad there are no customs implications. I shall be shipping this model to my friend this week

Many thanks again to everyone for their input!
