First model for me was the Russell Models Astreus 'Iron Maiden' Somewhere back in Time Tour 2011 757.
This is plastic however, my first all heavy metal bird was the IF200 South African Airways 747-SP ZS-SPB in Springbok 70s scheme, which is still in my top 5 favourite all time models in the collection.

Well i had to answer this one. If the schabak 1:600 also qualify for it then its the sabena 747,310 and 737 box set i bought onboard a flight back in the late 80s, if its 1:400 scale then its the gemini jets thai a340-600 back in 2007, and if its the 1:200 scale diecast then its the IF200 Qantas B744 OC back in 2008.

Mine was this KLM MD-11 model but it was plastic. I also had the Martinair MD-11 and the smaller Wooster 1:250 KLM 747 at one point.. As for my first all metal Diecast airplane model, it had to be the Gemini 200 United Battleship & Saul Bass 757-200.. I also had the Gemini 200 Delta Widget 757-200, all purchased for only $50 new from online retailers www.thediecastjunkie.com and Troy's Toys & Collectibles back in 2007-08..

Awesome thread, and great question!

For me it was the Skymarks 1:200 Airbus A380 in house colors. I was at a mall picking up a valentine's day gift, when I walked passed a Puzzle Zoo store and saw the A380 sitting in the window. I just had to see how much it was going for, and was PLEASANTLY shocked to find out how inexpensive it was. From that point I did more research and discovered this whole new world of model airplane collecting, until I ordered the IF200 TWA 747SP "Boston Express" livery....and then the diecast world came into play!

Since then I've sold off my plastics, except for that one....it will forever hold a special place in my diecast heart

My first two models were the WM AF Bréguet Deux Ponts and PAA Stratocruiser.
I bought them the same day during my first visit at the CAM shop, Sheraton Skyline Hotel (LHR).
I still have them and it was the beginning of a long story.

Twenty one years later, I have 151 models, some of them being customs and I made a few very good friends on the forum.

The DA.C forum is a great place.

For me, it was three as I got all of them at the same time.

For my daughter, it was the Gemini200 Delta 757 with winglets from 2013. Sadly., sold off.

For me, it was the Phoenix 787 Ethiopian and the Gemini200 Emirates 773 and the 1:200 Herpa Emirates A380

My first 1:200 model was the Hogan, Air France A340-300, F-GLZU, I think it must have been around 2007.
My first diecast model was the GJ United A320 (Tulip), it was early 2008.

I already then thought that this could might become an expensive hobby so I gave myself the limit of only
buying one model just now and then (and I still stick to this). I remember I was on the fence for either the
United A320 or the GJ AA 737-800, and I chose the United one.

I agree with Jean Pierre, DA.C forum is a great place.

Mine was the Gemini 200 mighty American Airlines Boeing 757-200 (N183AN) first release. I saw this model on e bay many times and paid about 300$us including shipping to my country. Ended up trading it for the even rarest 757 Susan Komen.
I miss that 757 but got a really good one instead.
Yes I love AA.

My first diecast model, and second overall, was the Pan American Boeing 707, the quintessential airline aircraft combo in my opinion. That was back in 2003, and it is still one of my favourites. It was then that I chose to only collect diecast.

My first diecast 1/200 scale model was the original release Southwest 737-700, followed quickly by Inflight British Airways Union Jack and United Battleship 747-400s.

I had a few Hogan and Rissoon plactic models before that and quite a few 1/400 scale.

Great thread!

My first 1:200 were actually some Hasegawa models (AF 747, KLM DC 10, Cathay L1011) in the 80ies.

Started my addiction again late 2012 with a Herpa LH A340-600, followed by an Aviation Swiss Avro (hence my icon) and a Hogan AA MD80. Still cherish the Avro.

My first model was a socatec Air France Concorde made of resin registered F-BTSD.
I bought it just after the real aircraft flown back from NY for its last commercial flight over my house... 2003 was the year ... so far.

The Gemini200 Delta 777-200lr N701DN started my addiction back in 2010 (although I collected 1:400 before then)

I cannot be completely sure. I think while collecting 1:400 airlines my first venture into 1:200 was the Herpa KLM B737-400. I got rid of that a long time ago though.

My first model was the Gemini200 US Airways Star Alliance livery Boeing 757-200. I got it from the Us Airways Company Store back in 2013, since then I have collected over 100 diecast models and a few plastic!

Well here is a new development. Photobucket introduced a three tier pricing fee yesterday (29/06/2017) with it's "terms of service" policy.

o Plus 50 Plan: 52 GB of Storage for $59.99 / Year. The Plus 50 Plan does not allow any image linking or 3rd party image hosting.
o Plus 100 Plan: 102 GB of Storage for $99.99 / Year. The Plus 100 Plan allows for unlimited image linking but does not allow 3rd party image hosting.
o Plus 500 Plan: 500 GB of Storage and unlimited bandwidth for $399.99 / Year. The Plus 500 Plan allows for unlimited image linking and unlimited 3rd party image hosting.

To share photo's via a link which is what I used for free until yesterday. Now they want USD $399.99 per year the highest tier! This is nothing less the extortion. I do apologize for using their services and the loss of all my photos shared on this forum. I am now seeking advise on a free service photo service provider. Any ideas please anyone?

Gemini200 Qantas B767-300 about six years ago...was thoroughly impressed with the detail, hadn't seen anything in diecast quite that sharp before and made the decision to stick with diecast from that day. Having said that, a few resin types I've seen since also looked pretty good.

My very first 1/200 diecast was the wonderful DINKY TOYS L1049G in the '60, as a birthday gift!

Have been followed by others by number, mostly Western models UK nd CN.

My last one is the superb R7V2 proudly baught to Stephen himself.

My first model was the JC Wings Cathay Pacific B777 B-KPM
At that time I was really fascinated by the way how it resembled the real one. And then i started collecting model aircraft

First was a Singapore Airlines A380 bought from their in-flight store. Plastic.

First diecast was IF744016, United Airlines B747-400 Tulip. I had first seen it at the Airplane Shop in Miami, but bought it at Wingsworld in Shanghai.
