Question [For Hogan Wings 1/200 collectors] What is the best way to clean snap-fit models ?

Hello everyone I'm a new member of here and this is my first time to post a thread here.
My Hogan models are displayed in the sitting room in the way shown in the photo :

Every time when it comes to cleaning them, I used to spray some water on a tissue and wipe almost every part of the models. However I'm afraid that this would create scratches on the fuselages in the long run as ABS resin is not as hard and strong as metal.

Is there any better way of cleaning snap-fit plastic models ?
Thanks.

I've always used a soft cloth with a small dab of spray on furniture polish on it, has always worked a treat on my plastic/resin models. I often use the same process on my larger 1/100 and 1/72 airliner display models. Hope that helps.

Neil.

I stole a make up brush from my wife, very soft and doesn't scratch a bit. Also no damage to antennas or gears

Hey Sanfranrickey

You would not believe what I use, but I use automobile instant detailer spray on my models. It removes dust, and it gives a brilliance luster shine to them models. Try it!

No, it comes in a spray bottle. Meguiar's Quik Detailer is what I use on my car and have used it for years on my Edsels at car shows.

Yes its a spray - you apply it to a soft microfiber cloth and then luster your model. It creates a protective layer for your model also. I use Meguires or similar brand.

You will like the result.

Good luck!

You can also use something like iKlear with a microfiber. If my models are just dusty, I'll use a lens brush with blower.

Will try this for sure. Also good for metal models I assume?

I have found that using a lens brush with or without a blower minimizes the damage to small or fragile bits such as antennae, etc.

in fact I don't have that kind of spray
but it seems a bit dangerous to clean that way as the detailer spray is not designed to be used to clean airliner models...

I'm now trying to use a lens brush and a blower. Hope this would not cause any further damage

If you remove dust regularly, like maybe a couple times in a month with spray type dust remover, that's all you have to do. But if you clean your models only once in a while,
you would have to deep clean for old heavy dust. Dust remover spray won't work.

Rubbing the model with any clothes even with soft cotton will scratch your models regardless of the models made by either metal or plastic.
Spray type is the answer or very fine brushes purchased at cosmetic store that used for cheek makeups.

I use the soft make up brush as well as it will not damage any antennas and easy to remove dust.
