This fuselage with a "short" upper deck seems to belong to a B 747-200, not a B 747-400 …

Clearly they used The fuselage for the 747-400 cargo with the shortened upper deck because the wing root is for the later series 747s

Oh boy... Who the heck does quality checks for JCW? I think its a great manufacturer, but lately these types of errors occur and they continue to release them regardless.

This 100% falls on whoever oversees/supervises quality over at Johan's factory. The workers themselves probably don't know the different and even if they did wouldn't care. Maybe it's a one off and in that case I think it's pretty neat.

JCW does seem to be having a problem with QC lately. Too bad because they have some nice molds. Their 747 molds are one of their best efforts. But not this one!

Most of the errors seem to be poor sanding (large variation id the shape of some of the noses), not enough glue (parts falling off) and stupid painting errors (like this) that should never have left the factory. I know they used unskilled laborers, but a QC manager would go along way to keep the stupid stuff from ever being shipped.

Yes JP it's the 747-4 freighter version alright. I did wounder why its been missing in action since it was announced. So they knew it was flawed? Here's a little tip for JCW if this is not a one off and the whole production run is like this. Don't let them leave the warehouse JCW and save your freight cost on distribution and returns & /or wright off's. Nobody wants something this bad. Salvage what you can or melt them down and start again please

Quality control is at its poorest. Because the people who makes those models are not collectors or aviators. Are there just to collect our pennies. This is a B747-400F airframe with the full printed -400 pax version upper deck windows.

It's a proper howler and should've been spotted way before going into production, let alone shipping, but JCW have been producing some cracking models recently, so hoping it's a one off aberration.

One of the reason that I have quit collecting, all the manufacturers only care about how to grab more and more money from the collectors with repeatedly releases from Inflight/JCW/Phoenix/Gemini of one same model and with different QC issues.

Instead of thinking of how to manage a good QC protocol, they will release the same model from 3-4 different manufacturers... I mean, seriously?

Hi
I think JC Wings QC does not exist.
Fortunately I ordered Inflight versions.

Sorry not buying it... You quit because of expense.. Having more choices of the same model is not a reason to quit...and quality is not that bad it's just that the collector is just more picky.. Yes mistakes are made no doubt but compare today's models to just a few years ago and lots of improvements have been made.

Quality has come a long way in the last 10 years. But it is weird that there will be like 3 issues of the same plane (incl tail number) by 3 different manufacturers.

Like the KLM Orange Pride for instance. JCW, IF and Phoenix.

For me it's both. Why should I pay MORE money for LESS quality? I started collecting in 2010 and back then GJ released incredible models. Now, skip ahead 7 years and it's almost a miracle if they release a model that looks great anymore. Now granted I only collect GJ so I don't know about the quality of other brands, but to try and pretend that quality hasn't decreased in the past few years would be foolish.

Wow, that's a huge relief and great news thanks for posting. Looks excellent JCW. This Qantas Boxing Roo II Rio 2016 will look good next to the BA gold nose Rio as well.

Cheers Steve

This right here!! And the company denies it so much too! They really started off well, and now the "improvements" are going the wrong direction.

Now THAT is really funny.

Seriously, I think JCW earned the bad name all by them self through a complete lack of care about customer input, and almost no quality control.

I'm happy for the Qantas collectors who want this model. What will be interesting to see is what will the freak version be worth to collectors in the future.
