Re: Skymarks vs Hogan - What is better?

Generally, Hogan models are more detailed than most of the Skymarks models. I prefer Hogan over Skymarks.

Welcome to the forum.

I have a Beluga A 300-600 ST made by Skymarks, basically the model is nice but details are heavy, no landing gear ...

I also have a few A 300-600s made by Hogan, they are fantastically good !

I too prefer Hogan.

Jean Pierre.

I prefer Hogan too, the finishing, accuracy etc is better.

Re: Skymarks vs Hogan - What is better?

Hogan is much nicer than Skymarks imho, but they also are generally more expensive. I would say Hogan is the best value in plastic.

Re: Skymarks vs Hogan - What is better?

Hogan beats Skymarks in all directions but if you seek an alternative over Hogan give Herpa Wings a go, they too make great Plastic models, like Hogan Wings, Herpa Wings has great molds as well, yet Hogan Wings is mostly cheaper than Herpa Wings.

So yeah compared to Skymarks? Hogan Wings for sure.

Re: Skymarks vs Hogan - What is better?

I must add that Skymarks has some unique models that Hogan doesn't have, so it might still be worthwhile to have a few Skymarks models in your collection

Also keep in mind Risesoon is the same as Skymarks

Re: Skymarks vs Hogan - What is better?

For me Hogan is much better. Generally Skymarks are very poor of detail expecially on the wings. I have many Hogan and several Skymarks, but I prefere Hogan without doubts.

Re: Skymarks vs Hogan - What is better?

I really think it depends on the aircraft. Generally, Herpa plastic models are good, but their diecast models are better.

As far as Hogan vs. Skymarks goes, I think it depends on the type of aircraft.

Hogan has a killer A330 with probably the best nose shape available in ANY A330 model, diecast metal or plastic.

With 747s, I think it depends on what you are looking for. Hogan 747 models have the infamous 'duck nose' (too gradual of a transition to the nose slope below the cockpit windows) but have better engines and landing gear. I like the shape of Skymarks 747 fuselage, but not the engines with solid cast engine fan details. The paint on the Skymarks (specifically here and in general) looks too thick and glossy. Hogan paint is much better. I've always replaced by Skymakes 747 gear with Hogan landing gear and engines when I occasionally get one.

For the 777, and specially the 777-300ER, Skymarks had a better fuselage shape and cockpit window printing as well as far better engine shape with spinning fan detail. The only 'down side' is the engines have a plastic flash line around the engine that needs to be sanded down to look right. The caution here is many Skymarks models do not have any detail on the top of the wing. You can order a 'high detail' model from both Skymarks or Risesoon (Skymarks 'upscale' brand) that has the detail. As with most Skymarks models, you will want to replace the landing gear with Hogan gear.

For 737s, 757s and 767s, I would go with Hogan specially for the 767s. The 767s are really nice models, again rivaling what diecast metal has to offer. Like the A330/A340 I think they also have the best nose shape and cockpit window printing available. Herpa also make a good 737 model.

None of the Hogan or Skymarks models have jeweled beacon lights or antennas, but these can easily be added if you are handy..

Re: Skymarks vs Hogan - What is better?

I agree as well, Hogan is superior in the plastic realm. I must say the hogan A330/340 nose mould is the best out there, on par with Phoenix's nose mould.

I totally agree with you.
I prefer Hogan over Skymarks in general, but like you said,
Skymarks has some unique models that Hogan doesn't make.

It's really depend on the airline & aircraft.
I do buy both Hogan/Skymarks.

Re: Skymarks vs Hogan - What is better?

I will say, one Skymarks model that is quite nice and detailed is their KLM B744. I prefer it over the Hogan version, only because the nose shape is better.

Re: Skymarks vs Hogan - What is better?

The Skymarks Air France A380 is also very nice and detailed

Re: Skymarks vs Hogan - What is better?

Hogan's MD-11s are exquisite. Complete with Landing gears, antennas and nacelle strakes! Ditto Jean Pierre, their A300s are also the best in their price range. My very first Hogan was the Shamu 737 from way back and I still adore it! And as for Skymarks, I totally agree with newCDN and smoothjazz. Good luck with your collection!

Your question is not stupid. Your not familiar with these models, and you asked a question. I have many Hogan and Skymarks models. If I have a choice,I prefer Hogan. Welcome to the forum.

I like both :)

Re: Skymarks vs Hogan - What is better?

I prefer hogan, but here are my observations:

Hogan: better quality, smoother finish, better printing of details

Skymarks: not the best surface finish, window printing is generally way off (e.g. windows 7mm higher on one side compared to the other), More accurate mold shape (particuarly the nose shape) however poorer quality joints and engine pylons though
