I've had this beast on order for what seems like an eternity already, looks worthy of the wait though!

Lovely model, but the red stand is just ugly in my opinion.

Engines look great, as does the rest of the mould, but the colors are not for me. Odd choice of font as well.

from A. net....

Colorado based owners of the 747-400 Supertanker, Tanker 944, announced they will be ceasing operations immediately.

The group behind the operation had been seeking prospective buyers and had been forced to furlough employees until the fate of the tanker was known.

One of the issues with the aircraft was that the US Forest Service was always cool to the large platform preferring smaller frames, limiting its domestic use to direct state contracts such as with California.

the problem is that it's too specialized for too small of a niche ;(.... sad to see such a unique bird get converted to freighter but that's what likely will happen....

Very sad...

One of my favourite models as the livery fits perfect on the IF200 B747 module (and also the chrome engine parts are nicely done).

What an awesome model of this very special 744. Sad to see that they are stopping to use this super firefighter machine...

My guess is that making precision drops with a B 747 was very difficult, the forward visibility when flying the aircraft is very limited, despite the flaps which are lowered, the speed is still very high and that doesn't help.

I saw from videos that the aircraft had to fly behind a light aircraft, something like a Bronco, acting like a path finder aircraft.
When arriving on the dropping zone the lead aircraft gave the green light for the drop with a smoke generator.

Also, the stress on the airframe when flying in such conditions cannot be compared to a flight at 33 000 feet.

Jean Pierre.

That livery really makes this B747 look newer than a B747-8 for example same how KLM did their wave livery on their B747-406M's.
A shame these have been ceased from operation, it proves how useful a B747 design is from PAX to Cargo to Firefighting and launching missiles to space.

Lets hope they realize that the B747 may be needed for larger scale operations, as it did prove it's value during the times when USA was suffering from those insane firestorms..
Then again just wait till there are other huge fires out west this year in Colorado, California, Wash Saint Paul, etc etc.. they will need this B747-446 more than anything.

So incredibly sad to hear of this news. This jumbo has literally saved hundreds of homes from devastation. I am so grateful to have personally witnessed this bad boy in operation, albeit under the stressful situation of the California wildfires.

Haven't had the chance yet to add this bird to my collection, but will surely do so now.
