Question Keeping track of your collection

Is anyone actually using The DA.c to keep track of their collection?

It seems like they've let it go so bad that it would be impossible to get it up-to-date as there must be hundreds of models to add and who has the time?

Just look at the Gemini 200s - I think the last one added was 2014!

What are others doing to log their models?

I was just thinking of this very topic 2 days ago as I was deleting planes I sold and adding planes I have recently purchased. It is hit and miss as to whether the plane one is trying to add is in the collection database...if it is an older release I found them, but the newer ones are not being added. I also miss the airline logo's.

It does make you wonder who's at-the-switch? I've seen other messages to the moderators (not sure if they are responsible) on if and when the site will be maintained. From what I can tell they go unanswered.

Puzzling....

G'day,

I'm the Moderator here. I have advised in the past to simply join DiMA for members who want to keep track of their models. I have recently had some better luck with the Admin on this site and just today received an answer to my main problem with the database.

If I was a cynical man I would add it will probably take another year till the database is sorted out. However I am an optimistic man and from what I've been told, it will be very soon when the database will once again be back up and running. Tho.... to be honest I'm not holding my breath...

I will keep ALL members in the loop, please feel free to contact me at
[email protected]
if you have any questions or concerns.

Cheers Lou

Appreciate the response - thank you.

I've always wanted to know...

1. Who owns this site?

2. Who maintains the various aspects of the site? Like who maintains the database? Are they volunteers?

excel spreadsheet. problem with online database is that whilst it's easier since the particulars are all listed, it is susceptible to being down not updated etc.

I was thinking of creating an iOS and Android app for us to track, but would need access to a database (or a 1 time data dump). This way you have access to your list, and ideally, have a search function (via barcode scanner like Amazon product search) to query the database.

It is now impossible to maintain collection inventories on this website. At one point, I was adding models as "customs" that were not in the database but I've stopped doing that.

I take photos of my models upon receipt and I keep a spreadsheet in Word.

I use my collection site. I usually take pictures the day/week of getting a new model using a makeshift light box.

I use DIMA as well. The images and airline logos makes viewing the collection so much better than mere words'.
Importing the collection from DA.C database into Dima is really easy.

I used to use the DAC database for my collection some years ago, when I used to collect 1/500 and 1/400, today I have my excel-sheets only.

In my last post, I forgot to say I also keep files of my collection, with a picture of the model, then on the back an actual picture of the real aircraft, so you can show your collection of to people that don't have computers, and of course if your computer crashes.

I devised a spreadsheet that describes the actual airplane (Mfr, Plane, Type, 1st. Flight), the model (Scale, Markings/airline/color, Material, Maker), and the acquisition (Date acquired, Source, and Cost). This works pretty well for searching and sorting. I have about 980 entries for my 1:200 collection. I have photographs of each, but I have not yet merged those to the database.
