Default SAM 26000 The First Air Force One

Well the first jet Air force One anyways. Most of you know the history of this famous aircraft. With the three Presidents that flew on SAM26000 VC-137C John F Kennedy was the first President to fly on this aircraft that was commissioned in 1962. This aircraft also returned him Back to Washington in 1963. This aircraft was then replaced with SAM27000 but SAM 26000 was kept as back up.

What you may not know is that Jacqueline Kennedy directly with Raymond Loewry personally designed this First Air Force One's aircraft's colour scheme of this aircraft that is still on the current Air Force One's of today

What I forgot to mention is that this aircraft was also delivered with a short tail and ventral fin. It was upgraded with the taller tail and ventral fin that was removed at some stage. I believe it has been restored to it's delivery condition ventral fin returned and is open to the public on permanent display. I also think it maybe used in the new movie Jacquie which I see has great reviews

Ok JP I found a photo where SAM26000 had some restoration work to restore it to it's delivery condition and is heading into the " The National Museum of The United States Air Force Meseum. The Ventral fin is restored and refitted, but did the Air Force do the tail?

This aircraft is the fourth B 707 delivered to the USAF as a VC-137 C but it doesn't mean it is a B 707-320 C.
In fact it is a B 707-353 B, 53 being the digits allocated to the USAF, so it is a B 707-320 B.

The aircraft was delivered with a tall fin and a ventral fin.

Many airlines removed the ventral fin which was not really necessary.
The USAF did the same, we have pictures showing the two configurations.

The B 707-320 C never flew with a ventral fin, so the 26000 is not a B 707-320 C.

NOTES : The first B 707-320 Bs were delivered with a tall fin and a ventral fin.
Later, the ventral fin was removed.
The last aircraft produced had no ventral fin at all.

To the best of my knowledge, the configuration short fin and ventral fin NEVER existed.
The short fin was typical of the early B 707-320s which later received a tall fin and a ventral fin.

I know, all this is a bit confusing ...

Jean Pierre.

Question Re: SAM 26000 The First Air Force One

PS: Dose it come with a stand (not that general B707-stand like that one from the pictures) ???

Way out of my strict (sic) collection criteria.
But even so, I just dropped a couple of South African Rand on this beuty as well as the JetStar and DC-9 and the SAA 747.

They are just too gorgeous to miss.

I'll go berate myself now being influenced by the 'peer pressure' and blaming Aussiejets for this lapse.

It comes with the stand in the pictures. I guess Inflight's 707's mould's have not been upgraded to take their new style standard stand don't let that put you off this nice model

eugenevh: You are very welcome. This is outside of my collection criteria as well. But as said above this model took several attempts to get it right. To hard to resist to me, as I also love aviation history of significant aircraft. The polish is everywhere from wings upper and lower and body and engines also makes it also worth while as well (must wear gloves while handling) as are the detailed various antennae. Don't beat yourself up too much Eugene, I also ordered the new GJ Air Force One G2AFO624 SAM29000 to go with it

jcahea , yeah, hard to resist! Yes is the answer to that

Contacted one of my favorite retailers (no not that one moderator) to see if he had any in stock and he said one was released in 2005 and one in 2011....! He was confused and did not even realize there was a third release! He is checking for me.

Once the ball is in play, there is no stopping it.

I pulled the trigger on the Inflight 200 IFAF1VC-25APB IFUSA02AP.

I am sure you will post pictures once your 747 arrives.

For the sake of my bank balance, I "hope" that you post comments dealing with your dissatisfaction with the model and the numerous inaccuracies, and that you wish you never laid eyes on it.

Depending on your pictures and commentes then of the Gemini version, I might have to add the Gemini 82-8000 once that is released. You know.... to have balance in the collection. (Oh my. I am justifying the purchase already).

Hope you can sleep at night you southern hemisphere dweller.

Definitely more accurate than the 2011 release.

But can anyone explain if there are any differences between the VC-25 Inflight just released and the two they released in 2015. Seems like just a different box and the black stand and coin.
