Yes it is a very nice mold now, nose is better and the addition of antennas makes it better aswell for a very nice price.

Only a few minutes on the table mate! Had to clear everything before dinner! ;-) @htf200 the Herpa a330 is plastic, but this one is one of the first plastic molds that come close to the metal ones!

Did the MD-11 come with gear or did you have to have add it yourself? Always disliked that most of Hogan's LH models didn't come with gear.

Thank you for sharing pictures of your AF A 330.

Plastic or metal, to me, it doesn't matter, once they are painted, you don't see the difference.
Herpa used to add some weight in the Herpa Premium models to make them more heavy …

It's a pity that Herpa makes no effort to publish good quality photos of their models.
Some of them are well worth getting to know when compared to similar products released by other manufacturers.

By the way, their SABENA B 707 which will be released very soon is shown with a short fin AND a ventral fin.
The ventral fin is a mistake, this configuration never existed.
The model will have a short fin, that's all.
Herpa is very happy, the model is successful, the production is almost sold out.
They are considering a second batch in the future with a tall fin, a ventral fin and another registration.

Jean Pierre.

The Herpa AF A330 really looks cool, i believe JC Wings also got the same one in all Diecast, i usually like metal better but i might give this Herpa version a try...

You should try it, it is a very nice mold and model as is their A350. We should get a largely refurbished A380 mold from herpa soon to.

@Jean Pierre, a pitty to hear from the mistake with the Sabena ventral fin. I will get the model anyway because the 707 aswell as the old Sabena livery are truly beautiful, just as the latest AF 707 model. Good to hear that the model is almost sold out, time to pre order then!

What I wrote may have been a bit misleading.

I had a contact with Irmgard Mayer to make things clear about the correct configuration.

The model will be delivered with a short fin and NO VENTRAL FIN.

Ok that is good to read. Did Sabena operate the 707 with short fin or were they changed prior to delivery?

I would get the Herpa ones. There is a new LH A380 coming out this month on a new mold. The last herpa LH B748 is also better than the limox with added antennas. The registration of the last one is D-ABYL.

That's a very good question …

To explain this, first, a few words about the AF aircraft.
The last aircraft which was delivered to AF with a short fin was the F-BHSF, msn 17618.
Msn 17619, 17620, 17621 and 17622 were all delivered to AF with a tall fin AND a ventral fin.
The previous aircraft were retro fitted in this configuration.

SABENA …

Msn 17623, 17624, 17625, 17626 and 17627 came after the AF aircraft and went all to SABENA.
At least two aircraft OO-SJA and OO-SJB were delivered with a short fin and NO ventral fin.
I don't understand why they had a short fin, this is surprising but I have pictures.
In the end, they were retro fitted with a tall fin AND a ventral fin, we can assume that the last aircraft were delivered in this configuration.

To make the story short, for the OO-SJA equipped with old PW engines, there are two possible configurations :
< Short fin and NO ventral fin, delivery configuration.
< Tall fin AND ventral fin, it was retro fitted in this configuration which became standard on all B 707-320s.
I attach two pictures.

As far as I know, the configuration short fin and ventral fin never existed.

That's what I explained to Irmgard Mayer and I am sure that the model will be correct.
The model being successful, she is considering another batch with a tall fin, a ventral fin and a new registration.

A few words about the B 707-320 Bs.
SABENA had none of them.
Of course, they had new turbofan engines and were delivered with a tall fin and a ventral fin.
The ventral fin being not really necessary, they were removed by the airlines.
The last B 707-320 Bs delivered by Boeing had no ventral fin.

The B 707-320 Cs never flew with a ventral fin.
SABENA had some of them.

Sorry if all this is a bit off topic …

Imo Herpa makes the best A330 cockpit shape. Well closest to reality.
The metal ones are wrong.
The mold is wrong, because there are flat surfaces (just rear of the side cockpit Windows and above the two windscreen panels ) that are never dealt with.
Which results in having a round cockpit window layout too big, too high, front w/screens too large and rounded.
See pic below:
You can see the flat surfaces on the sides behind the side cockpit windows, how small the front windscreens are compared to the models available, and how lower they are positionned. All window panels are dead flat as should be.
There are also two half-moon shaped flat surfaces over the front windscreens. Not easy to spot on this picture.
The passenger window cheatline is aligned with the cockpit windows.
because most of the molds are wrong, they print the passenger windows higher to compensate.

I think you are spot on! The nose is what makes the A330/340 so recognizable on the airport around the world. Think herpa comes as close as it gets compared to other manufacturers.

Nice models you have there! And a beautifull Diorama also!

Really like the Herpa A330/A340's.

I have got the LH A340-600 (D-AIHN) from Herpa. Sadly back then Herpa wasn't putting antenna's on their models. So I added them myself

These documents showing the location of the different antennae might be useful.
Source : Airbus maintenance manual.

As for the antennae, Bees Models (Martin Beacom) products are very nice.

Drilling a hole in plastic or resin is very easy.

In white metal and solid diecast, I use a high quality drill bit, minimum speed.
Put a piece of masking tape on the model where you want to drill and mark the position of the hole with a pencil, that way, you protect your model if your drill bit slides away.
I dip the drill bit in white spirit during the process to make it more efficient and extend its life.

I have just drilled a hole on a Herpa diecast model, it works.
All you need is a high quality drill bit, 0,5 mm is fine and white spirit, I use a Dremel rotary tool.

If you have a model that you have put in "permanent storage", try first on this one.

Sorry, no sat domes, you will have to make them from plastic card or plastic sprue.

I did it a bit less professional as Jean Pierre explained.

I used pictures of the real plane and the gemini200 version to determine the positions.

As for the antenna's ( Don't Laugh;-)) I used Jorans 3 in 1 flossers from the Albert Heijn;-) (https://www.ah.nl/producten/product/...3-in-1-flosser)
Stole the idea from a youtube video. The tip of the floss-stick is just the same shape as the "real" antenna's and it is made of hard plastic. The only difficult part is to cut them in the right length, especially the small ones on the belly.

I used some pritt-glue to glue them on. Its easy to clean when you remove the antenna ans still strong enough to hold when you are dusting off the model.

Although its a really cheap way, i'm very happy with the result.
