Default Full Throttle Formula 1 Special Liveries 3 2 1 go!

While Ansett Australia won the rights to be the official airline of the 2000 Olympics in Sydney and had a few special painted aircraft to promote, Qantas followed up with this aircraft as Qantas was the major sponsor for the January 2000 Australian Grand Prix in Albert Park in the State of Victoria.

VH-OJC's " The City of Melbourne"roll out of this F1 was 16th Jan 2000.

This was the first aircraft to wear the F1 titles and under the F1 titles is "Formula 1 Flies Qantas"
The next few airlines featured did the same, in the same spirit some times liveries mention the F1 event's host city and others checkered flags cars and F1 logo's every where and each got better and better with their liveries. I do love them all but everyone has got to love Etihad A340-600 right? What a beauty. It would great to see more carriers get involved when their host nation hold the F1 event race. Enjoy the show

On both sides of this aircraft VH-OJC "City of Melbourne" is Michael Schumacher's Ferrari that was to be used in the race in 2000

Upgraded wheel hubs I painted myself, Off white for front landing gear and Matt black for rear gear (loosely applied) look cool & all Qantas 747-400's wheel hubs look like this

Followed by Etihad A6-EIB ABU DARBI 2009 A320-232. FERRARI on the tail...nice.

The next roll out was Qantas 747-438 VH-OEB Qantas Australian Grand Prix 2011 and was re-applied in 2012

Airbus A340-642 Etihad A6-EHJ 2015 Grand Prix

Gulf Air A330-243 Bahrain Grand Prix 2015

Very clever idea for a mini collection and a GREAT display. Always wondered what the cars associated with the liveries looked like and now I know!

Thanks for posting!

As mentioned by others, what a great theme, aircraft and F1! Love the photos, But.....
As an F1 fanatic, it turns my stomach knowing Bernie is probably cashing in on these.

A big thank you to a few people

Firstly, thank you to all of you have posted above for all your contribution and to those of you that may choose to post below.

I purchased two of these models on ebay the first was the very hard to get Herpa ETIHAD 553230 Black A320, which arrived with only one antenna on the front the rest where gone. My very good friend Willy fixed this model after missing antenna and added a red jewel light. Thank you Willy. The second issue of Gulf Air issue Phoneix / Eagle was corrected by me purchasing all new rear landing gear port side landing rear gear was missing. Both issues where over six months ago but the end result is worth it. Yes I went to Phoenix distributor here in Australia to fix up Gulf Air landing gear issue with great results as you can see

Nice twist and a great display comprising aircraft and F1 cars...

I was a big fan of F1 in the late 90s and early 00s but then fell out of interest in it, however this last season I have got back into it and have picked up more interest...

I wonder when we will next see an F1 inspired livery from an airline...

I would like to know if you fellow collectors would be interested in all of the above plastics and an old JCW F1 done on old Inflight mould 747-400 re-done in on new JCW/GJ new mould. I would also would like to know if any of you like GJ / JC to do A9C-AD made as well. If you guys agree as above feel free to comment here. They will all sell out and what a nice little sub collection as mentioned by Charlie Alpha and more interested F1 collectors will fill up a shelf or two

Thanks a lot for sharing the pictures, Steve. Looks like you might be (or used to be) a F1 fan? I can see Lewis Hamilton's 2014 Mercedes W05, the car that he won his second world champion. Wondering if he's still able to win the championship this year, with two races to go... I also see a classic Mclaren driven by the legend-Aryton Senna and a Williams race car, not sure about the driver though. Just curious, are you a fan of your countryman-Daniel Ricciardo and Mark Webber? Do you still watch Formula 1 races currently? Thanks!

Great thread - awesome mix of F1 cars and special F1 birds! I have the Qantas City of Melbourne myself, I particularly like the Etihad A346.
I never saw the QF 744ER 2011 GP before, is this a custom?

Lastly - love the Senna McLaren and Mansell Williams! The best days of F1 right there!!

Glad you like my little mini collection. A bit of a fan like to see Daniel Ricciardo do well and followed Mark Webber. Webber was lucky to ever get a podium finish with his old team mate

The Diecast Formula 1 747 was the VERY first diecast 747 I got. I purchased it along with the Diecast Cathay VR-HOT

Thanks for the info on the Hogan model - the detailing is pretty good with all the antennae on the hull and and engines look smart too.

A couple of things worth mentioning, firstly to Andy - while this model is not a custom I had a friend add the antennae so now it this model is customized. I had to clear that up. This model, if any of you purchase will not have antenna.

Secondly, Tobacco advertising is illegal in Australia so all of the Marlboro was removed from Michael Schumacher's and any other of all cars and only white back ground remained. Qantas, while they used Michael Schmacher's Ferrari with no advertising of any sponsor's , Qantas also placed a F1 logo's over the Ferrari's badge probably under legal advise

And the cars I have been asked about they are all 1:43 scale on ebay plenty off
