Angry Herpa screwed up the "FRODO" Premium!!!!!!!!!

Some weeks ago I got my Premium ANZ "FRODO" - and sent it back. It seems as if nobody has realized the bad mistake until now Herpa has made.
Too bad, I'm unable to post some pictures. Perhaps other collectors (victims) can help?

The right side of the special painting is NOT just the mirror image of the left side. If you compare photos of the original ANZ B747-400 you'll realize easily that the ornaments above the wing are completely different. Even Herpa's photo (homepage) of the Premium model shows the correct printing. Also their versions of this beauty in 1:500 and 1:400 don't have this mistake.

I emailed Herpa to get a statement - no response! At the ILA ( air show ) in Berlin I talked with Herpa employees. They even had the Premium, the 1:500 and the 1:400 version at their trade fair pavilion. So they could see what they have done to the model. Guess what they answered:

"You're right but it still looks nice, doesn't it?"

Can you imagine this? No more questions! I mean we're not talking about a cheap toy.

Could it be that there were different original versions at different times? I still can't believe that Herpa made such a huge mistake without any reason.

Best wishes from good old Germany

Rudi

Question

Exactly!

Thank you for posting the pictures. What do other collectors think? Would you still buy the model?

Default I have one of these

I think Herpa did a wonderful job on this model and I did look at both sides of my premium model and it looks like a mirror image to me. If I missed something, its because I didn't see it
(it looks fine to me). I absolutely love this model and it remains on display on my shelf, I like it better than the all white Air New Zealand of 3 years ago. As far as I am concerned its the best FRODO release you can get of all scales.

First, I don't have a reputation for bashing any brands. But...Excuse me, that IS the problem: the image should be NOT mirrored on the starboard side. Instead, look at the 1/500 and 1/400 BOTH BY HERPA, and you will understand why the PREMIUM is screwed up.
If u have the time, you can also wait for the actual plane at your local airport or log on airliners.net and look for photos of the plane on both sides. Remember, the Premium screwed up the starboard side by placing a mirrored image of the port side pattern (look at the pax door right behind the wing on both port and starboard....), and that is simply not the way it is supposed to be.

I look at my Modell edition HANNOVER and I am glad back in those days the people at Dietenhofen used to care more about their products (READ: image is not simply mirrored but actually mimic the real thing very closely).

I saw the Frodo model on display and although attractive at first sight, it simply isn't worth the money and the space.

Herpa should show more respect to collectors.

Default I see what you mean

I see what you mean, but despite that I wouldn't write off the model as 98pct of it is correct, I can overlook the other 2 pct now if overall its a very close representation, and if someone saw it at at the airport and then saw the model, it would be something that can easily be overlooked, overall I am very pleased with the model, if the color were wrong or decals had gaps or flaws in it I would have returned it immediately, but I don't see any quality flaws just what you pointed out with the decal being a little more extended in design over door on left side of aircraft if I were facing cockpit from behind aircraft. I have Herpa Lufthansa 2000 premium and yes the decals are different on both side more thicker on left side less on right side which is accurate. Overall Frodo looks great, but I do understand your concern over that 2 pct.

I'm usually not a micrometer type of person, but if I'm paying over $300 for a model I would definitley expect the speciallivery to be represented correctly.
The Herpa Premium models are incredible but even if the livery was correct, I just don't think one oft he premium models is worth almost 10 of the SJ200 or Herpa NP models.

Default Its the details one pays for

Its the most accurate of any model I have seen, even all metal diecast doesn't even come close, as you can only do so much with metal, thats why I have one, I enjoy each day I see it on my shelf because its like having my own 747-400 but instead of paying 125 million dollars I pay 220.00, wheels gear, engines fan blades strobe lights cockpit seats clear window frames, water ports, air conditioner vents, galley drain fairings, its all there, too bad it doesn't fly even the engine exaust vent has the conical center piece. It really is a very nice model, Ill take one herpa premium over 3 inflight 200's any day, (although I must admit I have the pan am DC-8 could'nt pass up on that and now waiting for United Friendship DC-8).

Herpa knows that they made a mistake. They wrote on their messageboard that they are working on a solution. I don't know what that means. They plan to contact every(!) customer. Let's wait and see!

Best wishes from good old Germany

Nice to hear, although luckily I don't own one of these innacurate models. I am sorry for those who don't like the model with a blatant mistake like this, but wondering at the same time if those who are happy with it the way it is still want it to be replaced...
Will they produce another 700 models (making a total of 1400?) or destroy the original release?...(will buyers of the original release end up with TWO frodos?)
don't know how this will work.

amazingly, the original sample by HERPA was correct, I wonder why did they do wrong with the production model?

Herpa cheated their customers, plus the "You're right but they look amazing don't they" - thats a lame excuse and change of subject.

Probably better if you got the Aragon Legolas one.

There is no need, nor point, to put three new pointless posts on a two year old thread.

Hi Bandora,

I had one but sent it back to Herpa.

As far as I know Herpa gave a free B767 (Non Premium) ANZ LOR-Aragorn to those customers who complained about the screwed up "Frodo".

They didn't make any new correct Frodo models. No replacements.

They should have made up for it by giving you a free Aragon/Legolas Premium 744 to you guys!

I know this thread is over 13 years old but was the issue been settled? i.e. Frodo 747 1/200 non premium version which has the corrected livery.
