Default Adamjets Closing Down

Just received an email that Adamjets is closing shop for good and they're having a liquidation sale. Sorry to see a retailer go out of business. They often had things that other retailers had sold out. A little pricier than many online retailers but reliable and good people.

I've tried to see what's up for sale, but the pages don't seem to load. All products are listed on their sales page, and that page isn't opening, either. Was hoping to take advantage of some bargains, and let folks here know about it, so if you're able to download their sales, you can find some models missing from your collection.

Yup, it's no rumor but it's true, Adamjets is closing it's doors to the public for good... it's very sad indeed but i guess nowadays competition is fierce with lots of sellers & sales also coming from eBay...

I finally figured out where the models available are listed- go to "All Products" on the home page. There are some real bargains to be found. Some Gemini 200s as low as $39.95!

Here is the trick. At the bottom of the left column it doesn't work if you click on each manufacturer, instead click on All Products at the very bottom. Once that page opens up there should be a drop down menu at the top, that will let you sort by mfr and show you everything available.

Hope that helps!

I picked up a sweet deal on what I thought was a long gone Blue Box Lufthansa model.

I am indeed sad to see Adam Jets go. I didn't order from them often, but I was usually able to find sold out items form them from time to time. They were always higher than anyone else on price but they would run 20% off sales about 2 times a year which put them in line with other retailers. Always received prompt and speedy service.

I placed an order today! Got Gemini 200 Delta 747-400 and Virgin 747-400 for $99 each and got a few A320's and A319's for as low as $39. Some good deals.

As mentioned above. To find the deals, you have to click on "All products" and then use the dropdown menus to find what you are looking to purchase.

Some good stuff! Check it out!

Might want to clarity that that model was a 1/400 scale, correct? Adam Jets lists all JC Wings 1/400 and 1/200 together.

I can clarify that it was 1:200. I saw that as well and had to double check like 10 times just to make sure, lol

It said original price was $169.95 and that it was 82% off. And it also said 1:200 on the listing. Pretty darn good deal!!

I was about to order, and while the prices are good, some can be found elsewhere for same price, I had a $200.00 order ready to go, but when I got to shipping, it was $73.00 for Priority Mail, You got to be kidding me, that cant be , $20.00 maybe, $73.00 for 2 200 scale and 11 400 scale, don't think so. I hate to see someone go out of business but if that is his normal shipping prices, that's a huge issue. Even if I wanted to let FedEx crush it , that was going to be $35.00, that's just too much for shipping.

Oh well, didn't really need them anyway. :-)

Yeap, I would have ordered more in the past from them too if not for the high shipping costs. Some of the deals now aren't bad, but when you figure in the shipping, you may be able to do better elsewhere.
Having said that, I am still sorry to see them go.

Agreed on the shipping costs. I had a JCW Boeing 747-400 roll out house colors in the cart ready to purchase and then noticed that the cheapest shipping option was $20... for ONE aircraft. That's ridiculous. Given how out of market that is compared to other sellers, you can't tell me they aren't making money off of the shipping. Shame.

In reality $20 for a 1/200 747 isn't outrageous. Have you shipped anything lately?

I can ship a 1/200 USPS Priority Mail most places in the USA for under $14.95, $73.00 to ship the order I had in the cart is just plain stupid.

I am sorry there not surviving, but shipping cost may have been a part of there issue.

I just got an a340 in the mail via priority mail and the postage on the box was $20.65 for 5 lbs. I'm guessing their shipping calc is only accounting for weight and not volume that could be fit into a flat rate box since $70 does sound a bit high.

Not sure why your shipping was so much, unless you are quite a good distance away from the shop! Adam Jets normal does have some of the highest shipping rates around. But today I ordered 6 models, 3 of those wide bodies and the shipping via ground was $29 via FedEx.

It is sad to hear thetoyhq, collectiblejets, and now is adamjets closed the store. This is not a good news for collectors. One of the reasons for this closing probably is the price and shipping cost from adamjets. I have a feeling that several diecast model shops will be closed within a year or two. With this hobby the price going up, more collectors just jump away, retailers need more cash flow but less business, round and round in all bad situations. Good luck to Luis.

Adam Jets is probably closing down because of their high prices and shipping rates. I hardly ever ordered from them unless they were having a 20% off sale or there was an item that they had that was sold out everywhere else. Their prices were traditionally higher than any other retailer. I could always find things cheaper elsewhere.

I'm really sad to see them go out of business. I purchased many times from Luis and even visited him at the warehouse he operated out of in South Miami (near Tamiami Airport) a couple years back. He is a true gentleman.

Like everyone else my issues were shipping costs and pricing. Coupled with Florida sales tax since I was shipping to my address there, the cost of a 1:400 model for me was always 25-35% more than buying from Waffle or EzToys.

His departure from the market will leave a void. Farewell Luis!

Time to check out the deals.

I agree. That shipping cost is absolutely ridiculous. I had a browse through their models and found one I've been wanting to purchase. It had over 80% off! A price not to be missed. I added it to my cart and went to check out, only to see delivery would cost $73. $73 for ONE model. If this is their usual shipping price then no wonder the doors are closing... Of course, this could be entirely FedEx that are overcharging.

Wow, $73 for one model? Can I ask what it was? It must have been very big or very heavy to cost that much!

It couldn't be further from 'big and heavy'. It was the Herpa Flybe Saab 340 in 1/200. Very small. It's worth mentioning I'm in the UK, which adds to the delivery cost, but $73 is just ridiculous

I recently had a HM F-16 shipped to me from Manila and that was "only" about $40.00, but admittedly it was an expedited shipment and arrived in about 8 or 9 days.
$73.00 is just way too much for your purchase.

$40 is still expensive but I suppose that fact that it was expedited doesn't make it too bad. But yeah you're right, $73 is way too much for it. If this is how much they usually charge for an international order, then I think we've found what put them behind the rest of the competition.

Yes, free shipping would have been great. I ordered more than $400 worth of models- and probably more still.

Hate to see another retailer close, wish them the best.

Adams had a flat fee that was costly if you ordered one or a few models at a time. The other issue was they were slow to ship. Does not help to order an overnight or 3 day shipping if the models ships a week or two later with express shipping. Always shake my head with retailers that do that.

That said, Adams has has some super deals always if you knew where to look and with the sale now some great deals. I have to wait to order more just because I have to wait for the next paycheck, but otherwise I would be making my purchases now. Retailers have been taking it on the nose for the last few years, the deals now, are I am sure, tough for them to make.

Do they really? I was starting to wonder what happened with my order that I placed a couple days ago. So basically, we could be waiting weeks before orders get shipped out?

I never found Adamjets shipping to be outrageous, but I'm only one state away. The items are always well packed, often with extra protection in the cradles and model boxes themselves. And like Travsuz said, they always had models that are very hard to find elsewhere. No the prices were never great, but the reward points, service and packaging made me a regular buyer. Sad to see them go out of business..

I get a Fedex shipping notification today that my order is ready for pickup. I think he's just swamped with tons of orders right now.

Yes, that is what I thought. With the sale, they must be swamped with orders. 12 1/200 models probably will be sent in at least two packages. I'll be patient.

Yeah, totally understandable. I can imagine they must have hundreds of orders to process. Patiently waiting as well, and will probably be placing another order here soon, lol

I tried to buy from them in the past going back over 5 years, and i do recall the shipping being outrageous compared to dealing with west coast retailers, even compared to one Canadian dealer i have purchased from, and i am less than 300 miles from Miami. i did place an order on a few today, and the shipping is inline with other retailers, but i don't recall Adamjets offering as many shipping options as he does now.

Also have not bought from Adamjets in a long time, but when I did it was only the hard to find models. While the experience has always been positive, downside was having to pay about $20 via USPS 2nd day to ship to my address in Miami. And you know, the US post office will deliver it on the 2nd day and not the next day considering we're in the same city.

At any rate, best wishes for Luis and everyone at Adamjets.

Yeah it definitely seems cheaper than before. My shipping charge was $28 on a mix of 16 1:400 and 1:200. Pretty good if you ask me.

I also placed an order today too, for a must-have and a nice-to-have. Will also be back if the prices go down a little more.

All the same. Good service but their pricing was always higher than everyone else. Only bought planes from them I couldn't find anywhere else. As for shipping, was more than others. Just surprises me the shipping costs of some models when I can get them in 2 days from Malaysia for $26!! And that's for a 1/200 747.

Of course, this could be entirely FedEx that are overcharging.
Of course it's the shipping companies who are overcharging!!!

Adamjet's shipping charges are based on their actual cost, based on weight and volume. They do not profit off shipping. Conversely, you shouldn'r expect them to take a loss on it either, especially when they're "giving away" inventory below cost!!
