I'm a little late around here - but anyway I also would like to congratulate you to your work. JUST AWESOME!!!
I'm sure models with lighted interiors will be available from manufacturers some day - because there's good $$$ in it. But: That would mean the end of diecast production as we know it now - because this sort of detailing is only possible on hollow plastic models, I guess.

English short version: You are crazy, looking great! ;-)
Oh and to any model manufacturers reading this, I would absolutely pay a premium for a model equipped with realistic lighting....a big premium! I doubt it would happen, but I'm just saying
Several years ago Gemini had a few sample fueselages made with working roof and belly lights however it was abandoned as it was not feasable and impossible to wire through the wing and down to the nose gear which would have made it more accurate. Also due to the fragile and volitile nature of wiring, battery and complexity driving costs up, it would have been a product durability/quality nightmare. Also keep in mind using a metal fuselage would not allow any window lighting where as the plastic Herpa mould is perfect especially since it splits in half and has windows embedded into the mould too.
I dont see any manufsacturer doing this.. It will be solely up to the customizers
like this excellent example. Great job..

now work on those wingtip lights and nose gear
I don't even have the luxury of owning a Herpa ME. Well done, and a totaly awesome project in every respect but I see where Russell is coming from. I see a little future for you here right now, though for those that want to look like yours

Qantas founded Winton Queensland 16th November 1920
A triumph indeed!!!! Would love to see this on a KLM 747! Especially considering I have that same Lufthansa Airbus (Stade) .......as well as the American Airlines too!
Wow, I am impressed by the work. The model looks fantastic I think this is the first airliner model I've seen with that kind of modification. Last one I saw was a 1/32 F-16 plastic kit build with working nav and landing lights and illuminated cockpit instruments.

With the recent threads showcasing Herpa Premium/Modell Edition models, I couldn't help but think back to this amazing interior lights project done several years ago. Still awesome to look at!
Oh and here's a gif with the flashing beacons.
I know, technically it should not be a double flash, but I was lucky finding another flashing chip that fits the model after the old one broke 3 times.
I have a 1:150 scale Air Canada 788 with the interior lights already in I bought from AvM but I would so buy a 1:200 model like this. The flashing lights are great! I’m surprised the model manufacturers don’t make a premium offering like this. You’d think it would sell?
Anyway great job!

well there are loads of light up models in 1/150, but none in 1/200 yet.
Love the Enterprise!!
Yeah, I almost bought a Virgin B744 but I'm a little turned off by the black cockpit window frames. I guess I could paint them, but my hands aren't as steady as they once were.
