Default Herpa Wings Boeing 707 Intercontinental Demo Aircraft HE557597

This one just landed in my collection from DiecastAirplane.com

Herpa Wings
Boeing 707-320
Reg# N714PA
Intercontinental Demonstration Aircraft
Item: HE557597 (1:200 scale)

Before it was delivered to the 707-320's launch customer, Pan Am, N714PA was operated by Boeing in this color scheme for trial and demonstration flights for several months during 1959. This model for the first time depicts the original delivery configuration of the 707-320 series with its shorter vertical stabilizer and without the ventral fin.

Herpa Wings did an excellent job with this model, love the polished look of the aircraft. As a big time collector of House Color models, I had to get this one.

Here are some pictures:

Despite a fuselage cross section a bit too high and a bit too wide, I bought the AF version.
It sits alongside other Inflight models in my cabinet., the difference is not too visible.
I don't regret this acquisition.

Your photos are excellent, much better that those made by Herpa.

Jean Pierre.

I bought the Pan American version and have much the same feelings. It sits next to my Western/Aeroclassics200 Pan Am 720. As you say, the difference is not too visible and it adds to my Pan American collection along with her Inflight sisters.

Have all the herpa 707's so far and must say that the Air France and the house color ones are the best so far. Lovely model indeed and great pics!! And if Jean Pierre is buying it you know that the model is correct including the wings! :-)

Mr. SKF, those photos are magnificent! It's nice to be able to confirm that Herpa really put their back into sorting out that flightdeck windscreen. This could find itself in my collection too. It really would need a Comet 1 display-mate, though.

Yes my friend, a true B 707-320 (or -420), not to be confused with the -320 B or C.

Is this the same mould as the recent Panam/Varig/BOAC Herpa B707 release?

According to Stephan Kuelgen (Herpa), the nose was reworked, this could explain that it took some time before the release of the AF model.
I forwarded a side view photo showing perfectly the position of the passenger windows and cockpit windows.
I am very happy with these details.

A fair warning to all those who have this model, DO NOT display this model with the stock stand. I had it on the stand...it was on a stable contertop (no movement)....all of a sudden the plane took a nose dive and took out 4 other models below it. That really made me angry...they should have known better not to have a heavy metal model balance on a plastic stand - AGAIN DO NOT PUT IT ON THE STAND.

I have a real problem with the wing leading edge at the root.

I agree with you.

Not for the same reasons, the Inflight B 707-320 is not better, to make a B 707-320 model, they used the slightly modified wings of a B 707-320 B which are basically different.

For the time being, there is no accurate B 707-320, maybe one day SMA or WM ?

That said, the next logical step for SMA or WM will be the B 707-120 B or -138 B, the wing is similar to their B 720s, with the "glove".

Jean Pierre.

Yes the blatant use of the -320B wing (minus the rounded wingtips) on the Inflight -320/-420 was a complete slap in the face, I must agree.
