Default Re-releases ?

Hi, I'm a newbie to this forum having resurrected my interest in collecting diecast airliners,1:200 scale only and having purchased 16 in the past two months with another 2 winging their way across to me as I write. It's becoming a very expensive hobby.

I notice while searching the many sites avail to purchase from that the popular ones disappear very quickly and you have you must be fast at snapping them up.

My question is, if any one can answer. Of the models that are now out of production and no longer available do the Manufacturers sometimes revisit and reproduce them?

I ask this as I am particularly interested in finding a DC10 and DC8 in Air New Zealand liveries .

Welcome to the DAC! Yes, it's all about timing on the DAC for scooping up 1/200 rare models. You can also post a 'wanted' thread on any models that are on your wish list. You'll have DAC collectors/members like myself sending you a PM that they have the model you are looking for, and it's up to you if you wish to proceed. I'd say that you can rest at ease when purchasing models on the DAC, due to references given by other buyers for that particular seller.

Great you are looking for Air New Zealand models; I sold a DC-10 to a DAC member 2 years ago on behalf of his buddy. That model went via Air Mail all the way to your side of the globe; no slow boat for him, !

There has been a trend in recent times of manufacturers re-releasing some exceptional/rare 1/200 models for the collectors. For example the B747-400 = KLM, Pan AM billboard (I have the re-release sitting in my closet; will open it up this weekend Finally!), etc. My next bet is they will be re-releasing the United Airlines B747-400 battleship livery this year.

All the best to you in collecting 1/200 models. Also, don't be shy to post on the DAC, we don't bite! ! Cheers! T7

Yes, manufacturers do re-release some models. An example of that actually is the ANZ DC-10 you write of. It was re-released with a polished lower fuselage.

Good to see another Kiwi here Antony.

You might have left your run too late with the DC-10, after much searching and expense I picked up the first release from InFlight 200 a few years ago only to see them re-release the second one a year or so later...

I bought one of those as I knew they would be in demand with Kiwi collectors and just sold it to a friend in Chch a few months back. You might still pick one up and If I spot one I'll message you. A stunning model and not many made, only 120 or so from memory and Air NZ is a popular livery for collectors.

As for the DC-8... nothing yet I'm afraid

I think a lot of it has to do with demand, manufacturers are reading these forums to see what collectors want. At least that's how I see it for the Pan Am 747 billboard, a sleuth of Qantas 747 as well as European heavies.

Does anyone knows of a web page that might list the new releases for JC Wings? I know if the Facebook page, but information seems slow... It would be nice if they had a web page like Hobby Master's that every month, religiously, they post what's coming out the next month.

My Ultimate is to have a collection of the older no longer in service planes of Air New Zealand and of course the even older New Zealand National Airways Corporation (NAC) hence looking for the DC10 & DC8. I have managed to get a NAC Vickers Viscount "City of Christchurch" ZK-BRF and I guess any other NAC planes would be even harder to find

Hobbymaster did ZK-TEB, a TEAL Lockheed Electra in 1:200 diecast. Part number is HL1007

The lack of an ANZ 767 is bewildering, hopefully only a matter of time!

And yes, the DC-8 is every ANZ collectors 'holy grail'

Hi Antony,
There is a DC-8 in a scale close to 1:200. It is/was made by Jet-Wings of England in the 70's. I have only just purchased one off ebay last week, it is winging its way here currently. When it arrives I will post some pictures of it.
I have a few NAC models as well, 1:50 Vickers Viscount by Walker Westway, in the last livery it flew, and a couple of their 737s the red stripe and the wings of the nation livery both in 1:400 and a larger red stripe NAC in 1:100. They do pop up on eBay and trademe from time to time. It pays to check each and every day if its something you are passionate about.
Old metal is my favorite as well. Airbus' just don't do it for me..........
Good luck with your hunting.

Will look forward to seeing it.... I suppose I'm being a bit finicky in just keeping to the 1:200 scale, and diecast at that. Guess I'll just have to keep looking and one day something may pop up.

someone told me that this livery might not see a re-release. the price tag for it is too high and the market is too small.

the competition at the previous release see the market flooded with it.

No problem Ajay.Yes a little bit more pricey than other retailers but like you said one has to be quick these days to not miss out.I bought this particular model over one year ago and i am very pleased with the quality and finish and i was suprised it was still available.I have found the the majority of the Inflight DC-10s to be finished off quite well.I am sure you will be pleased with it.

Oddly enough, special liveries like this one, MAS hibiscus & Qantas's were always being the most wanted & raved about on pre-release but... end up being the most undesirable after release, hence the flooding scenario.

It taught us a lesson: Regular liveries ALWAYS WINS!!

some collectors looked for significant liveries. some collectors looked for those they could relate to.

how many could relate to a livery which was painted 15 years ago?

different strokes for different folks. i wouldn't go so far to say they were undesirable. they were difficult schemes to begin with and the manufacturers made mistakes. the manufacturers did flood the market in that both the big boys went head to head... so yes you'll see residue stock. it has nothing to do with the "undesirable" livery. let's see how regular liveries fare if two exact same liveries are done with only a change in registration by both big boys. something has to give. it was hard enough to find either the tropical or the hibiscus prior to the jfox-bbox bust up, no?

Welcome to the forum. As a experience collector with more than 850 1:200 diecast plus 900 Corgis Aviation Archive listen to this: This hobby is expensive. The more passionate you become the more money you can spend every day. There are no **Rare** model since if a model become very collectable /Hard to find, the manufacturers find a way to release the model again with different registration or a special release as they want collectors money and nothing more. See all those B747 releases lately witch manufacturers release like crazy, an endless war. Of course a second option you can advertise on the Wanted/For Sale/Trade forum here and many times you can get what you want with fair prices.

Good hunting, Modestos

Having taken delivery today of my Inflight200 South African Airways B 747SP-44 (looks absolutely fantastic) has made me again start looking for what I would really like, a 747SP in Qantas livery, without success. Maybe someone from Inflight may see this and consider doing a re-release. Pretty Please.
