First, let me say this should be in the customs section, but I am making them with the 1/200 models so I guess this section is okay too. So if the mods would like to move this to the custom-made section, go ahead.
So,
I am looking forward to buy some decals and a 737-800 to make my own WestJet 737-800. But the problem is that I don't really know how to. I recently painted some landing gears for my LH models, and I found that real fun, so I decided to take it a step further and make my own model.
So I need to know:
-Which decal brands are the best?
-Which paint should I use?
-How do I get the decals on the model?
-How do I sand the model?
-And, what are the steps to making a custom model?
If anyone can give an answer to some of my questions, that will be greatly appreciated and I will be very happy.
Thank you.

V1 ships from Canada and you pay in CAD so you save on shipping and usd exchange rate.
I thought it was American! Thanks man, so now that I know that they use CAD, I don't need to pay extra!

Good luck with your project Daniel. I found it more difficult than I had imagined it would be. I'm just too impatient to see the finished article! I used rattle cans but if I was going to make a habit of making customs I guess I would set up a paint booth in the garage and use air bush system. You have youth on your side their buddy, I'm too old to learn new tricks.

Thank you! Just a few questions, what is a rattle can, and how do you use an air brush to paint?

Also, if I were to make a model, I would first cut the desired decal part out with scissors and then put it in warm water for 2 seconds, and wait until a sheet of "film" separates, and then I use the piece with the paint on it and put it on the model? I think that's how, right, because my dad used to make 1/72 models, and he told me that.
And if I needed to paint a part that is not decaled, (eg. engines) I would use regular model paint or spray paint or what?

Okay, one more, V1 says their decals come with clear coat already on, so does that mean I don't need to gloss it with a clear coat paint?

You should still clearcoat it.
Rattlecan = model spray paints from Tamiya, Testors etc. About $10 per can from local hobby stores. Good for large surfaces like fuselage
Small parts like engines will have to be painted by hand using a brush. You can buy small $3-4 paint bottles

Thanks for the reply! I have some small model paints. Why would I need paint on the fuselage? Wouldn't the decals cover that already, or as you said in your thread, you need to first sand it, then clearcoat it, then decals, then clearcoat again?
Would a toothpick work as a brush, because I used a toothpick as a brush when I painted the landing gears.
Thanks

No, decals don't cover the whole fuselage. Decals are only for titles and windows/doors. You have to paint the fuselage underneath.
I don't clearcoat before decals. I sand, spray primer, spray white paint, decal and then clearcoat
Toothpick isn't a brush, it won't give you a clean even finish

Okay. That just answers a lot of my questions. One more, but what is a primer?

Thank you. The link was very informative and fun to read. But it says it is using a Hasegawa kit. If I were to use Hogan models as a donor, like you did, with the AC Rouge 767, I would not need to care about the wings, right, because they are already painted?

I think doing a custom helps if you have previous experience of building kits like airfix.
On my custom concorde I am using Hycote as it's readily available locally. White primer with eventually Appliance white topcoat. I am still on my umpteenth layer of primer, laying light coat, then light rub to eliminate small paint faults that occur on each spray.
I used to be impatient and just spray until it was too thick and ran.
Have learnt with car repairs that light coat then let dry and repeat deffo works best.
