really nice models..... that new undercarriage looks great - if you put it on a photo background you really couldn't tell if the CX is a model or the real thing.

The United model looks nice. It looks like JCW decided to use their old generic engine mold instead of the incorrect GE-90 engines shown in the preview pics. A very good choice as these engines look much more like the P&Ws of the real thing. No exactly, but much closer than the GE90 mold would have. I'm anxious to get this model. It looks like JCW did a good job on this one.

The new undercarriage does look nice although the changes are not as visible as I thought they would be.

The Cathay Pacific is another story. I think they kind of blew a chance to do something really nice with the new engine mold. At first I thought this model used the old JCW GE-90 mold until I noticed the downward slant to the front of the engines and the shortened hot section. It looks like JCW retained all of the negatives of the old GE-90 mold like a pylon that placed the engines too low and a constricted intake lip that make the new engine mold look smaller than it really is. To this list of shortcomings, they added an engine that unrealisticly slants down in the front and appears slightly hump back when viewed directly from the side, mainly due to the top of the cowl that slants down too quickly.

The other item is the Cathay Pacific's nose and cockpit window printing. JCW would have to use a different mold for the -200 and -300ER models and maybe that is part of it. Compare the cockpit windows on the United model and the Cathay Pacific model and you can see how much smaller the cockpit windows are on the Cathay model. The United nose and cockpit window printing looks much more like a 777, the CX model not so much so. The too small cockpit windows make the nose gear look over-sized, and the give the nose a strange shape while making it appear much larger than it really is.

I sure hope JCW does a better job with the ANZ 'All Blacks' model that I also have on pre-order. It wouldn't take much. Larger cockpit window printing, a new more open intake lip for the engines, and a pylon that places the engine back up where it should be. One of the signature things about the 777s from the terminal or cabin is those big 'ole GE-90 engines sticking up level with the wing. These few things make a model that could be very good a pass for me.

I'm not sure they are the old generic 777 engines on the United.
They look like the original PW power plant pylons, used on previous releases of Gemini/JC. Could be the light.

Yup, those are the engines that I was referring to. Not quite Rolls Royce, not quite Pratt Whitney engines, but although they are not exact, they are not a bad representation of either engine. This engine mold used to be used on all JCW/GJ 777s until the old mold GE-90s were developed for use on their 777-300ER models.

Still, a big improvement on the old mold GE90s that the model was first previewed with.

The other United 777 thread by Justin has some more, and maybe better exposed pictures of the United model. The United model really does look nice.
