Default Alaska Airlines - New Livery

Just saw this come across the Seattle Times. Looks like the refreshed livery that some of the Alaska planes started sporting last year was just a hold over until a total new re-brand. I liked the old livery, but knew a new scheme had to be coming soon.

Given that from the PNW I fly Alaska quite frequently, one of these in the new colors from GJ will be a must.

Thoughts?

I'm glad they kept the eskimo, but I like the older scheme.

They were just announcing this on the local evening news. I like the new livery better than the previous. Very nice, indeed.

Overall, I like this new design a lot. Only aspect of it I don't care for is the lime green. But still, it's a decently done modern look.

I liked Alaska's previous livery, too.

This has the same theme as many new liveries....large titles on the front, some white, and then swooping design/logo up to the tail. With that being said, I do like it. To bad it replaces another good/unique livery.

This is probably the first of the new liveries I would say this... It looks pretty good! I would definitely get one. How about using the new 737-900 mould?!

It looks pretty good but will take a little getting use to. Going to miss the old livery though.

I do not care for the font, but it is a refreshing livery to say the least. I like this better than I liked the AA rebranding let's just say.

Several years ago they thought about removing the Eskimo, but quickly found out from customers and employees that it was very important to leave it as part of the brand. It adds alot of heritage to the airline.

Sorry guys, but this looks like just another boring "Euro White' livery and a step back from the last livery to me. Every airline seems to be going to a solid fuselage color with a colorful tail with colors that extend down the rear fuselage.

Alaska's old livery was one of the few around that had an almost all white livery with the airline name, but still had a cheatline and a distinct tail logo. Thankfully they kept the Eskino. I love their 'reverse colors' livery too.

Nope. I noticed that it too.

And in a different color, the 'new' Anerican and Emirates too. I would credit Air France with the 'original'. If you extend the tail color along the bottom of the fuselage, , you can add British Airways, Aeroflot, the 'new' Eva Air too or the original British Airways Union 'Flag' livery.

Not really original or noteworthy IMHO.

Yes, guys, it resembles several other airline liveries. But nothing lasts forever. Alaska hasn't changed their livery in 25 years. As Alaska expands its routes (Hawaii as an example), the airline wanted to evoke a slightly more tropical feel. In fact, two of the new colors on the fuselage are called Tropical Blue and Tropical Green.

I only wish they had painted the engine nacelles a solid blue. I really don't care much for the swoosh on the rear of the engine nacelles. But as new liveries go, it is better than some, such as Cathay Pacific.

I wonder if aviation enthusiasts complained about all of the cheatline liveries when they were popular...

Not sure how I feel about it yet. I do like the little splash of neon green they added (go hawks!) but I agree with others that the engines should be blue for some contrast.

Yes, that would be me. I resemble that remark. NEVER liked cheatlines nor many of the liveries from the 1960's and 70's. Alaska's was different in that they had different colors and the "Alaska" logo broke up the line down the fuselage. It worked and in time, this new design will too.

I think you meant to say the Seahawks right (or basketball Atlanta Hawks) but I agree, it would be nicer with blue engines, would make it stand out the new livery...

I love it. From someone who grew up on the westcoast, this captures it very well. It's excellent. I've lived in Vancouver (two hours north of Seattle) and now live in Whitehorse (two hours north of the nearest Alaskan town, Skagway). The greens and blues definitely remind me of the ocean and the trees. Bravo, Alaska.

Wow...you are out of the loop. ha..ha..

They are called Split Scimitars.
How These Simple Scimitar Winglets Make the 737 a Whole New Plane

They are part of the new 737 Max design but are appearing on 737 Next Generation planes now, some airlines are retrofitting their 737s with these. Alaska, Southwest to name a few. And...they are appearing in 1/200 models now.

It's a great livery, reminds me of the Seattle Seahawks colors tho. Anyways would be nice to see on a 900 yes but with scimitar winglets which has yet to be made, I'm patiently waiting for that mold as a new United 739 is needed in my fleet. So I will settle for a 738 scimitar Alaska.

I agree with the overall sentiment of the majority of the commenters. The more I see it, the more its growing on me. The bright colors add a nice splash to the otherwise euro white fuselage. It's certainly better than some of the incredibly boring new liveries we've seen in the last couple years - (looking at you Cathay Pacific and China Eastern).

Hopefully Alaska gets to work on repainting a -900 in the near future and we can get Gemini to follow soon thereafter.

Greetings All,

In regard to Alaska Airlines new livery, here's a few pics of two (2) different Skymarks Alaska Airlines New Livery Models, which should be available in June.

The model with the plastic base is Skymarks SKR875 Alaska Airlines 1/130 Scale Boeing 737-990ER and the model with the wooden base is 1/100 Scale Skymarks Supreme SKR8259 Alaska Airlines 1/100 Scale Boeing 737-990ER.

Enjoy.

Regards, Robert

Skymarks makes some nice models...I collected them at one time.

I knew we'd see some new colors models soon. I'd bet that Gemini will be out with a 1/200 version soon also.

Ok, I'm starting to warm up to this livery just a little bit. The slash of color on the winglettes and engines goes add some needed color. The pics of the model helped too. Thanks for those!!

Still like the last livery better, but this on is starting to grow on me.

It's a nice refresh but a little more colour around the nose or the title lettering would help make it even more interesting imho.

I think what sets it apart from the boring Euro-trash is that the logo is HUGE at the front of the plane. Makes all the difference. As much as I do enjoy the flashy tail-art on many modern airliners, I really miss cheat lines. I really dislike solid white bodies on jet airliners. That said, I like this one. The logo breaks up the white nicely.

I'm surprised Alaska changed every advisement and showed the ads with new design so quickly!
