Default NEW Socatec Air France 744 and Air Tahiti Nui A340

A trip to the South Pacific this time round with my newly arrived Gemini 200 Air Tahiti Nui A340 and visitor from France, the fresh from the factory Socatec Air France 747-400 F-GITD with improved 'Air France' font and released to commemorate the retirement of the 747 from service with Air France!

The minimalist AF box art!

Wow, I love the AF 747-400! Andy, I see that its a "limited edition", just how limited? Is this available from any online retailers besides those based in Europe? I particularly like the different font, and the stand.

I must be an Ostrich,I had no idea Air France were retiring the B747. The ATN photo's speak for themselves. That is my favorite release of 2015 in any scale by far.

Not sure on the distribution of these models Patrick, I would expect a decent run, at least 250? I'm sure a few will make it to North American retailers. The stand is pretty cool, like the silver finish, a nice change from the usual wood/wood effect.

lovely photos... specially the 747... its a shame to see the end of Air France 747 operations... yet another carrier hanging up the keys to the Queen of the Skies...

Man, Gemini really should improve their window printing, especially on Airbusses and especially when the windows are against a non-white fuselage. As is on this model, the windows look very flat/unrealistic/low contrast/2-dimensional... just bad. Come on, Gemini. Decal makers have been doing ultra realistic "window shade" windows for years now. Why are you still so far behind? Let's see some detail and realism in the cockpit and pax windows, please.

I may be wrong, are you sure it is a Gemini product ?
Not an expert, but it seems to be Inflight.
All the Socatec B 747 were produced by Inflight.

yes he was referring to the A340...Maybe some validity to his comments about detail, but I think the photo does not do it justice. All previous topics and threads have all been complimentary about the Air Tahiti A340...Interesting, it also looks like he got himself in trouble again and is banned...

Interesting they went with a rather dull box art. They wanted to use my photo as the box art actually.

SOCATEC site states 1:400 diecast 747 model is sold out and there is about a handful of the 1:200 metal birds made by Inflight left.

I bought it at ARD, they had about 5 in the store which had been delivered literally the night before my visit. I looked inside the box, saw the bolder titles and bought one there and then!

Hello:

May I ask, where did you get that AF B747 from? Directly from Socatec?

Oh man, just yesterday, the B747 was retired from service and the route was Mexico City- Paris. I had the chance to watch her arrive for the last time in Mexico, the jumbojet is becoming a bird in extinction.

By the way, here's a not so good quality picture. Sorry, the light conditions were almost dark and the departure was totally at night.

First of all, thank you very much for posting the photos of the F-GITD model!!!

I just called Socatec and got two useful hints:

1. The model of F-GITD as shown by Andy above is available here for €199.- incl. a 747 keyring:

https://shopping.airfrance.com/bouti...0209/index.htm

2. Socatec will sell it on their own website from end of January. Air France has the priority for the sale.

Pity it's so expensive on the Air France website, maybe a little cheaper at Socatec...

I think 216 were made, as it says "216 Ex" on the box photo:

Thanks again Andy!

This price is completely crazy !

Socatec doesn't invest any money in tooling, production line, they don't pay any employees to produce these models.

All they do is commissioning a model and they make a big profit on the sale.
Even if this model is something special for me, it is not worth € 199 !

JC Wings please ….

I love the Air Tahiti Nui livery, but Gemini/JC should seriously scrap this mould and start over... It's horrendous. Their A340-500 mould is fantastic. Follow that trend Gemini/JC

It could be the F-GITH, no longer available from Socatec, its retail price was € 139 on their site.

I quite assure you, it was F-GITD (see photos) and it was (slightly under) €120 from ARD...they still have 2 copies on the shop floor! Call them if you don't believe me

Sorry, there was something confusing on the Socatec site.
All i can say is that you were very lucky to pay so little money for this model.
Well done !

I don't know how much commercial postage is from London to France Jean Pierre, but ARD have a couple in stock, might do for you for now, until JCW release, which could be a while (which, call me selfish, I hope so, there are so many other not yet released 744s I'd rather see - such as a UTA 'Big Boss')!

Thumbs up Re: NEW Socatec Air France 744 and Air Tahiti Nui A340

I'm not a big fan of 747's in general, real (1:1) or model. But I have to say, every now and again, Inflight coughs up one that really does appeal to me, as this F-GITD does. Admittedly stunning, but not destined for my collection.

I completely disagree, Mr. Yogurtlite. That photo has some wonderful light in it and the subject is beautifully crystal clear. Photos, like this, taken at twilight are magic, IMHO!

Hi!

The final AF B747 flights today were operated by:

09h00 AF744 F-GITJ (which also operated the last scheduled pax flight from MEX to CDG)

11h30 AF747 F-GITE

F-GITD was parked inside the maintenance hangar and not used for the farewell flight as originally planned (hence the model from Socatec).

So a double release of F-GITJ and F-GITE is what I'm dreaming of ;-) ...

Just for completeness, B747-128 F-BPVA and B747-228(F) F-BPVO have also been re-released and come in a special "Farewell" box with a special stand and a keyring for €199.- , just like B747-428 F-GITD ( https://shopping.airfrance.com/bouti...0209/index.htm )

It just says "Limited Edition" on the box for F-BPVA and F-BPVO.

F-BPVA:

F-BPVO:

I'll keep an eye on the Socatec website, maybe they'll be cheaper there when they get them at the end of the month.

F-GITD was performing a formation flight with the Patrouille de France this afternoon:

https://twitter.com/hashtag/ATHOS747?src=hash

Flightradar24.com - Live flight tracker!

Photos/videos of that special flight to follow.

According to Twitter, F-GITD will be scrapped..

So the model of F-GITD became quite a special model after all, though it didn't operate the last flight as originally planned.
