Default KLM DC vs MD

Both are gorgeous. The DC10 is a very heavy beauty.

Great models! I've always preferred the look of the DC-10 over the MD-11. I think the DC-10 is better proportioned with the shorter fuselage, and I don't care for the bulbous no. 2 intake or the winglets of the -11.

The old KLM-livery looked perfect on the DC-10! Remember seeing many of them in AMS in the 1980s.

I agree with with you 100%.
I have always liked the DC-10 but NOT the MD-11 (especially longer
fuselage,winglets and smaller tail plane)

I agree with you, the DC-10 was the granddaddy of them all... But sorry to see you got banned again...

Thumbs up Re: KLM DC vs MD

It's a tie for me. I can't decide,as I love them both. Didn't Douglas flight test winglets very similar to MD-11 winglets many years ago on a CO DC-10? As much as I like KLM,the Swissair brown stripe livery was my favorite on the MD-11. OT twice there.sorry.

A quick search revealed this (and a few others)...

Must say, I am a fan of both the 10 and 11 but the 11 looks more refined to me. Polished colours of the 10 look better but there was one polished KLM MD11 (PH-KCA) as it was delivered so c'mon JC!!

Mike 777, interesting, the issues you pointed out that you do not like about the MD-11 are what I find most intriguing with it.

Unfortunately the -11 did not sell as well as the -10.

Nothing wrong with that at all! The diversity of opinions about favorite planes and nuances between different versions of the same type is interesting indeed. I perhaps am also partial to the DC-10 since I flew on them a few times, but never flew on an MD-11.

As for the winglets, I think those test winglets (taller, slimmer) on the CO DC-10 look better than the actual winglets that ended up on the -11. Some more pics:
