Congratulations!. Never seen the aircraft before but love at the first sight.
I wouldn't be surprised if this First Flight was selling out like the KLM Last Filght.

You can see a little bit in the 6th photo in the front view, you can see the landing gear has the shiny dots for the lights

What a beautiful model. I have it in 400 scale by Phoenix. Flight City in Vancouver has secured me one. I just love the MD-11. She lives on as a freighter.

Thanks for posting. I have now doubt shooting polished models is most difficult as to what the camera lens picks up at the end. Nice work of a great subject. I also picked up my first MD-11 last week

They also forgot MDC house colors are purple and gold, not red and gold. Titles and tail logo are wrong color. True, it's a reddish purple, but it should be purple, not red. Compare to the box's photo.

if the color of the MD11 and mcdonnell douglas is of the same color. then i think the color should be red. otherwise the mcdonnell douglas should be red while the MD-11 should be slightly purple. but under the reflection of the blue skies red and look purplish too.

but then. i still think this is quite a good model.

No. Only the MD-90 wore that scheme. Everything else is just fantasy artwork. It'd be like putting the 787 Dreamliner scheme on a 727---it may be an actual company house color scheme, but it was not ever on that plane.

Retouched photo. Very common for the time. Boeing, Douglas, Airbus, British Aerospace all did it. Aircraft never flew in those colors.

Yeah very nice release. I concur with the posts above that JC wings has really taken the lead in diecast 1/200. Nice photos as well.
Thanks for sharing

As a proud owner of the JC Wings prototype MD-11 model and a 40 year veteran of Douglas Aircraft in Long Beach, I was concerned that the colors were wrong and truthfully, I couldn't remember what they originally were. I was on the C-17 at the time and things were not going too well for the C-17 and the MD-11. I walked over to look at the prototype MD-11 when it rolled out and I was jealous that they had a complete airplane and the C-17 was still struggling.

Anyway, I have a book on the MD-11 by Arthur A C Steffen published by Aerofax that describes the colors as "gold accentuated Burgundy". There's also a good picture on page 15 of the front 1/2 of the aircraft and it confirms the book description. I would say the model's red needs to be a little more purplish, but all in all, I think the model does a pretty good job of representing the original and I am satisfied with the model. The colors look close enough to the photo and I am sure the colors on the tail were the same as on the fuselage. Later, when they had more time, McDonnell-Douglas painted the second prototype in full house colors of various shades of burgundy, white and some gold trim. I never liked those house colors and they soon went away.

It was a sad day when, on Feb 22, 2001, they delivered the last MD-11 to Lufthansa. It was the last big commercial aircraft Douglas Long Beach would ever deliver. The aircraft took off with everyone outside watching. After takeoff, the aircraft cleaned up and did a big circle around Long Beach airport and came roaring back down the runway at low level and high speed. Most of us have never seen a large airliner flying that low at high speed. The wing tips were curved way up like some of the Hogan plastic models. It was amazing and there were few dry eyes in the house. What a send-off.

Thank you for sharing your story. I'm an unabashed Douglas / McDonnell Douglas fan and really enjoy reading these type of posts. The book you reference is a really great resource on the MD-11. I have it and, considering that it was published back in 2002, it's still excellent.

Also, look how well the C-17 turned out. You guys made a fantastic aircraft!

I agree. At first I was so worried that the colors were way off. My faulty memory told me the original colors were two shades of burgundy, (light and dark) and I was convinced the model was wrong. I boxed the model and put it away. When I found the picture of the real airplane that showed the colors were pretty close, I was greatly relieved. The model came out of its box, got a polish up and now sits right where I can see it. Lovely. I'm a little red/green color blind, but my wife is very good with colors and she tells me the colors are very close to those in the picture.

Thanks for the good words on the C-17. It was very sad when they delivered the last one a few weeks ago. I've been retired for over 10 years now but it hurt to hear that the last one was delivered.

I commented earlier. Let's see who can top this model for quality and sheer beauty in 2016. Good luck. The bar has been set high.

I had not heard this news of the C-17 line being shut down. I am sad to hear this as well. Again, you guys did a great job and you should be very pleased.
