This was a great surprise, when the announcement that this was coming out. I wanted an original TWA and was about to hunt one down when this was announced. Such a classic livery and will go well side by side with the Pan Am billboard for a LHR 1980s look!

No numbers known to me, i do know that of the above TWA they had about six.
I was lucky to get the last one. But the box art revealed another TWA red stripe with a different registration, so something tells me she will be a double release aswell.

That Pan Am is going to sell out like hot cakes i am sure.
Usually when they reach a pre order limit the option to pre order dissapears from the website. Si you are on time

Not to be the park ranger throwing a bucket of water on the camp fire. I read this is the "TWA 800" registration. If true, why would they pick that one to do? They had several registrations to choose from.

There is a JetX model of N93119 but it has the outline titles not the bold ones.

Kind of a morbid new release. I don't really want a model of the plane the Navy shot down... err I mean had a center fuel tank explosion.

There will be 3 TWA 747s. The original one from a few years ago, the one in this thread, and the one with the TWA800 registration which I personally don't think should be made but to each their own.

Totally with you 100% the TWA 800 example is unnecessary. I wouldn't accept it if it was given to me. I just think its tacky. IMO. I hope Inflight 200 does proper research,Pan Am 103 would also be very tacky. I bring this up as they are starting to release Pan Am models.

Just checked my pre-order with ARD, also N305TW thankfully. I would have been none the wiser otherwise. I'm not too impressed at the whole TWA 800 move...as previously said, there are many other registrations that could have been used.

This is a double release....two different registrations. One is the plane that was operating TWA-800.

Remember we had this discussion when the Singapore 747-400 "Tropical" was released. That was also a double release, one was the one that crashed.

Some people didn't like the idea but some did. Makes a nice memorial or remembrance of the flight. I personally have no issue and have ordered both versions.

So just up to you to choose which you like. Both are the same other than the upper deck windows. N305TW has more windows on top than N93119.

Honestly if i would not have been reminded about TWA 800 i would not have know the tragedy behind that registration number.

No matter what both planes were great looking.
Some also collect bombers and warplanes without think any further right?

I think it is a bit overdone to leave a model just because of its history.
I am sure the Enola Gay and Boxcar sold pretty good in any scale lol.

Not something I would have on my shelf, just like I wouldn't have the Pan Am 103 plane or any of the 9/11 planes. Seems strange given all the reg #s out there to choose from. I would think there aren't a ton of people out there who would buy it only because it was the TWA800 plane, and I would also assume there are a lot more out there who wouldn't buy it because it was the TWA800 plane.

I'm a big TWA 747 twin stripes fan. I have the original, I ordered the second one but I won't be ordering the TWA800 one and wouldn't take it if it were free.

Hollow titles was first, then later filled in to bold titles. It was filled in because it was hard to see.

Right! People purchase models of the USS Arizona all the time and models of the Shuttle Challenger and Columbia. No difference. I see nothing wrong with it.

It is a bit of weird discussion but an interesting one.

What would you do than with a plane model in your collection that might crash in the future? Will you toss it out too if that happend?

Imagine you bought the malasyian 777 registration that would later dissapear or shot down? Would you trash that model?

No, I would not get rid of it. However, I think there is a giant difference between the two. Now, if the model was being produced with the manufacturer only keeping the actual costs of production and then donating the remainder then that would be one thing. If it's just a regular production and then calling it a "memorial" model then I think that's in poor taste. I have absolutely no idea what IF is doing so this is just me speaking my opinion on these types of things in general.

Im in the minority here, but I'll be ordering N93119.

I see it being no different than a model of the Titanic. N93119 had many thousands of successful flights, and thousands of satisfied and happy passengers before Flight 800.

TWA 800, like the Titanic have both become cultural icons of their time, and more than anything they live on in these models.

Actually on the box of this double release there is no mentioning of it beeing a memorial release. I can understand that people who have lost loved ones in that accident might feel reluctant to buy such a model. Or maybe some of them would as a small monument to that tragic day.

But yes i do agree to ond thing ... Why this particular registration if you were not planning to do something special with it? I find that weird. But hey maybe they did not even know. Maybe their research doesnt go that deep.

I see it being no different than a model of the Titanic. N93119 had many thousands of successful flights, and thousands of satisfied and happy passengers before Flight 800.

TWA 800, like the Titanic have both become cultural icons of their time, and more than anything they live on in these models.
Same thoughts though I'm not buying another TWA because I already have one.

Like what you said, models of the Titanic are still being sold same as models of the Twin towers and many more items that are related with victims are still being sold and why? Because people want and need to remember.

Let people decide for there own if they want to buy a certain model/item or not.

So wait now I'm confused. Just how many IF200 TWA 747 releases are there? I know the first one was the hollow titles N93115, then bold titles N53110 (which I have), then a couple SP models. now they have N305TW and N93119?

I really like the box and stand on the new release. Might have to pick that one up and sell my original bold title release. Also surprised that IF has yet to do TWA's latest color scheme.

TWA 747 releases include the hollow title, bold title (both with the black anti-glare paint), two -SPs (one "Boston Express") and now two more bold titles (one of them the ill-fated TWA 800 aircraft, both now without the black anti-glare paint).

I was considering one of the two new releases, but since the only substantive differences between my early release bold title are the reg number, stand, number of upper windows on one model, and missing anti-glare paint) I can't really justify the expense (and I don't have any room for it anyway).

Having a look on eBay, there are lots of TWA 747s for sale, and prices are on the high side (and some are ridiculous). I expect them to drop en mass, when these new releases really hit the market, so I might pick up a hollow title sometime in the future.

Yeah I agree, however after looking at some pics it kind of appears that IF may have upped some details on the newer releases. I am seeing some small markings on the fuselage and engines that my original bolt title release does not have. I could be wrong, but the landing gear looks slightly different (better) as well. Those things along with the stand, nice new box, and the full length upper deck windows which I think look better, it may just be worth it. I might put mine up on ebay and see what happens.

I think its a win some/lose some thing with the old vs. new IF 747s. Some DAC members are critical of the new models' landing gear, which looks fake to some, particularly the wheel details and the colour. The landing lights in the old models are little "jewels", while those details are missing on new models. However, I concede engine details are improved, as are some fuselage details. The problem with selling your old IF TWA now, is that you will likely take a pretty significant loss, which matters to some, not to others. The only thing I really like on the new models, versus the old ones, is the supplied stand. As I am so short of space, the only way to go is "up".

Are you going to double up on your Detolf stands with a model on stand beside one on the wheels? Must say, that would look pretty cool, and double your capacity too!

The plan at present is exactly that, to start doubling up, to crowd in some more models. Unfortunately, the lions share of my collection of 747s are original releases, which do not have a supplied stand (and I dislike and distrust the black, optional IF stand). I have to do something, as I have 11 747s still inbound at present (although half of them are Pan Ams, and will go into/on top of those cabinets).

What I don't understand is....N305TW has a full row of windows on the top row, photo of the Inflight box above only shows it as having 3 windows.

TWA-800 N93119 as depicted in this model only has 3 windows on the top row, but as the reconstruction of the actual airplane shows TWA-800 had a full row of windows at the top.

Why the difference between the model of TWA-800 and the actual plane?

They were painted on the N93119 later stage.
It was a marketing ploy. It only had three windows upperdeck each side.

Thats were the term cheatline comes from.

Wow...good to know. That's interesting.

So...this model depicts the TWA-800 BEFORE the crash.

yep because the result "after" the crash would not look good in your collector case. ( i know it is a morbid and sick joke )

It is really a common thing even on modern jets to paint on additional windows.
