Actually i am not completly right in this.
Yes some airlines painted extra windows to create a uniform look on each type.
But in case of the 747 series the initial release had 3 windows.
Than later production numbers recieved extra windows.

So either some airlines plugged these window to create a uniform look.
Or they painted extra to create the same look.

Because the first releases (depending on the wishes of the customer) all had a first class bar and lounge area on the upper deck.

It was a marketing ploy. It only had three windows upperdeck each side.

Thats were the term cheatline comes from.
They were painted white? Did TWA not decide to paint 7 windows white to make it look like they had only 3 on a side?

Confusing huh

In case of this plane it most likely had the full row of windows from the start.
But they were plugged to only show three initially.

Than later when the bar was removed and they placed firstclass seating the unplugged the remaining holes and added windows.

Lol just something like that

Thanks.

Did some searching and it indeed the windows on the N93119 were plugged.

Some interesting stuff to read.

Shouldn't be all that difficult and I don't think losing money would happen. I bought my model new in a retail store many years ago. I paid whatever new retail price was at the time and I assume it was low 100 range. Right now there is only one bold title original release on eBay and it's at $199 shipped. All you gotta do is beat that price and it will sell. I would be more than happy getting anywhere in that price range or even less if needed. Based on pictures though its worth it for me as I really like what I see on the latest releases.

Are these latest releases available yet? iF site says could be a while. There are some on eBay but all from China or UK. Online stores say pre-order. There is a China seller that has a great price and appears to have it in hand now. I typicall wouldn't buy from a China seller, but he has perfect feedback so I might just do that to get it soon.

I think some are misunderstanding what happened here. N93119 (flight 800) had only THREE exposed windows in each side prior to the crash. The reason the rebuilt wreckage shows a full set of windows is because as a result of the crash the plugs were knocked out. I could be wrong, but some people just say they were painted, but I don't think that's the case. I believe the transparent window is removed and a plug is put in its place.

The argument I always here when a subject like this comes up. How many models of the "Titanic" exist? Several I'm sure, with several purchasers. If someone chooses to buy the TWA 800 aircraft,or the SQ Tropical, that is their choice. Just as I choose not to purchase them. That is my choice.

I agree with you. There is no reason to release a model of the TWA 800 aircraft after its tragic end, there were lots of other 747s in the TWA fleet that were identical aside from the registration number, release models of those instead. IMO this release is in poor taste. If I was looking for another TWA 747, I would skip N93119.

Pan Am 103 was yesterday,1988. I remember the Syracuse University students on board going home for Christmas. Very sad.

Yes very sad , there was a documentary on it yesterday on tv.
It also heralded in the end of Pan Am.

Bit like buying a model of a Ford Pinto...

Personally I would rather have a model of a plane that was unfortunately involved in an incident as it would make an interesting collection..
But then I collect CAA NTSB etc crash reports and related books/films.
Also note we have just had Concorde F-BTSC albeit in the film 79 scheme.

I think the Titanic point above portrays this issue.
And as an aside how many collectors have famous WW1 WW2 & modern Military planes that went down.

N93119 in her better days: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nm-q9BEWMGU Interesting video for sure, not only because thats N93119, but watch its takeoff roll how the plane is rolling with the nose gear off the ground. Cant say I have ever seen a takeoff like that before, sure looks cool though :-) Thing is a beast!

I have just received N305TW and am in love. It's an amazing model and is up there with my B-CAL G-HUGE 747 as some of my favorite model releases of this year.

Thanks for posting. If you let the next video queue up, you'll see a PA in interim livery take off with a very slow climb rate.

What is currently the best place to purchase the new TWA 747 models? There is an eBay seller from China that had N305TW for 135ish shipped with perfect feedback. I was going to buy that one but it just ended today and I missed it.

They still didn't correct the belly paint? (you can't have a "bare metal" wing-body-fairing on a 747, because it's not made of metal).

It's still just silver from nose to tail on the underside, not grey in the middle?

I ended up buying N305TW through eBay. It's coming from Hong Kong and the seller seems great. Thousand + positive feedback and his communication is great and he seems to have a lot of IF models for sale. Ill report back once I get it but I'm pretty excited to get this one. My original TWA 747 is already up on eBay and I have 5 watchers already so I would imagine it won't be long before that one sells. My only slight concern is the landing gear that someone above said might not be as good as the older IF 747s, but we shall see.
Thanks for all the info.

Curious: Why did you buy a new TWA 747 when you already have one? From what I've seen/read here, there's nothing more spectacular about the new version, e.g. polished belly. I have each of the original TWA 74 releases and they're not going anywhere!

P.S. InFlight's hard Styrofoam inserts are not kind to nosegear and wingtip antennas. So, for shipping, pack the model box so it absolutely does not shift around inside the shipping box. You might take it to UPS, let THEM pack it and if there's any damage during shipping, they're responsible for the cost of the loss.

I bought the latest one because based on pictures it looks like IF upped the details on areas such as the engines and fuselage. I was seeing a lot more than what my relatively plain original 747 has. Another big one is the stands that are now included. Another thing is even though I know it means nothing, I like the fact that it's apparently a much lower production model. Based on the website the original 747s were 500+ of each, the new one says a little over 100 only. It makes me feel better inside lol. Lastly, I can actually do the swap with extra money left over. I paid $135 shipped for the new one, and my old one is on eBay for $165 plus shipping with several watchers currently. Sounds like a win win to me
I'm not the kind that collects several of each model. One 747 is enough for me so I bought the new one and the old one is being sold. Never understood the whole thing of having 100 1:200 747 models (there was a thread on that recently lol).
Thanks for the tips on shipping. I have sold many models over the years and I'm aware of the best ways to successfully ship them. Just like you mentioned I use methods to securely place the aircraft in the styrofoam. Thick layers of soft tissue/toilet paper to be exact in areas where the aircraft rests directly on the styrofoam. Works great!

Thanks for the info guys. I ended up buying the new one from ebay seller cc55jw for only $135 shipped and its on its way. With over 1,000+ perfect feedbacks and very quick communication I had no problems purchasing from him. Great price and available now. I am excited to get it. On top of that my older IF200 TWA 747 sold yesterday on ebay for 50 more bucks than the new one. Its a win win

I'm new here and I got interested in this particular discussion simply because of the release of a pre-crash version of TWA800 and the debate on whether it should have been released. I say yes, simply because, as others have said, people like to have something tangible to remember things by such as the Twin Towers, the Challenger explosion (a teacher of mine was signed up for the then-"Teacher In Space" program and would have been on Challenger flight 51L had it not been for Christa McAuliffe going - so it was both a sad and happy day for the people in my area. Sad that the world lost a teacher but thankful that ours didn't get the OK to go. I'll cite another airplane: Lynyrd Skynyrd's Convair 280 that crashed in Gillsburg, MS killing Ronnie Van Zant, Steve Gaines, Cassie Gaines (Steve's sister) & Dean Kilpatrick (road manager). If someone were to offer me a model of that aircraft, I'd take it (I don't have a bunch of models in my collection due to being disabled and not being able to afford much) simply because it would be something (although morbid) to remember the original Skynyrd band by. Same goes if they were to release a model of Rick Nelson's DC-3 that crashed on December 31, 1985 in DeKalb, TX. Tomorrow is the day of that tragic accident where all band members and Rick & his girlfriend, Helen Blair, died in the crash. The pilot and co-pilot survived although, Ken Ferguson died a few years later, sadly.

If there's a place to properly introduce oneself here, can someone please direct me to it? I don't wanna break any rules.
