Default The BEST 1/200 747-400 yet?

Just got the new JCW KLM 747-400. Looks like JCW has corrected most of the issues that people were complaining about, particularly the nose.

Even the landing gear seems like it is better quality. Appologies for the crappy cell phone pics.

Looks like a GREAT model to me.

It's certainly nice but my vote for the best 1:200 744 goes to Herpa Premium

From the looks of it, it seems like it could be. Everything after the Gemini Qantas on this mould has looked spot on.

I own more herpa premium 747s than any other kind, but I do think the JC 747 has its unique advantages. The premiums are unbeatable in terms of fine details like the separate nose cones and transparent windows, while the JC (with this fixed nose) has a slightly better overall profile. The diecast portions have become so fine.

Does it fly? No...? Well then, we could still use improvements.

It does look quite good though. JC has put out some great ones recently.

The Herpa premium were great models, but they had their faults too. But enough has been posted on that topic and I don't really want to go into that now.

Should I have said the best 747 being produced today? In any case it is a great model, and I am glad to have her in my collection.

Very nice model indeed. Still happy with my inflights though. But if jc decides to bring a delivery colours KL744, im in!!

Downside of this particular model is that the registration is the same as the newer colour one, that's tge main reason i chose the if model.

It really is a great mould, however the landings gears need to be worked one! They are still quite cheap and flimsy compared to the Inflight ones. Also, the plastics used don't present as good as they could (ex. IF 747 engines look more solid, quality than the JCW). Overall pleased though!

I was very disappointed few months ago when I received the SQ Tropical release with the ugly nose. Yesterday l received the Qantas JC All Red B747 and I was impressed especially with retooling the nose area and the shiny landing wing lights. This is the Best B747-400 diecast so far. I have the Herpa Premium B747-400 model but still plastic. Different level of manufacturing both models and pricing too. Please don't mix the 2 models.

Isn't it funny not long ago you scaled bull**** mountain to prove the old nose was perfect

Funny, these are the exact things I noted when I received my first JCW 747 (fake plastic colour, landing gear more toylike). Overall, the model was fine, but presented much cheaper than an IF 747. I confess I have never been able to see the supposedly "glaring" flaws of the standard IF 747 nose. I guess that's why I have more than 50 IF 747s now, and keep buying them.

ps. the last thing this hobby needs at the present time is yet another KLM release. Please, all manufacturers, take a break from this particular airline, there are LOTS of others out there.

Not perfect, but better than InFlight is what I think I said. Now it is MUCH better than InFlight's 747. I think you may be the one scaling the mountain that you just mentioned right now!

It's funny, it was you all, not me who were the ones saying if JC Wings just fixed the brow they would have the perfect 747 model. Well, it's fixed and the model is still not perfect, but it's closer to perfect than anything on the market. For me, that includes Herpa Premiums (which I also own), that have their own faults.

InFlight's 747 mold is good and set the standard of the market for years, but that mold is now showing its age and needs to be updated. I have quite a few InFlight 747s too, but with silver wheel rims, the old style wing attachment points and heavy panel lines on the engines, not to mention the lack of a good P&W engine mold, the IF 747 model is now outdated.

Instead of wasting anyone's time defending a mold that is past its prime, I think the time would be better spent trying to get InFlight to upgrade their mold and bring their 747 models up to today's standards. It is a good basic mold, it just is in bad need of a 'freshening'.

now that the mould is fixed, it is the most accurate diecast b747-400 in 1/200 IMO

a regular SIA B747-400 MEGATOP or a last flight version is overdue lol !!
my preference goes to the MEGATOP version

Agreed. JC did fix the brow. Now re-release all of the 744s from Qantas you just put out and I'm in!

You will see the new landing gear on JCW 747s and 777s soon. People claimed they are "cheap" but don't know the costs for brass/copper is 5X higher than injected gear and with more details. By the end, I can see JCW keep modifying but not happening on IF.

Maybe not cheap as material itself etc. but a bit flimsy and not super solid to hold the weight of a 747. Not the worst gears out there for sure, but glad to hear they will improve! Also wing flex is a bit too much (I personally prefer on ground displaying). Appreciate the efforts from JCW though~

It is stupid to criticize JC/GJ landing gears.
JC/GJ's copper landing gears actually have a lot more details than those IF200 gears.

IF200 keep being stupid to make silver wheel hubs on their 747s and many other aircraft types until today.
Let me say this boring sentence again : I have never seen any aircraft having shiny silver wheel hubs...

I forgot that they will have new wings for 747s too, in order to match the new wings, all pylons have to be modified as well, there are numerous changes since their first release.

Personally, whoever makes a Northwest Bowling Shoe 747-400 will be granted the best 1:200 747 accolade as far as I'm concerned. It's such a massive livery to still not exist...

In the meantime, I am really eager to see what JC does with the Nalajni Dreaming 747-300...if they manage to get good polished replica RR engines and mate them to the already amazing hull, and tidy up the landing gears, this would be the best for me.

As long as you love it, it will be the best for you. I am very pleased to have the new livery version of the PH-BFT, honestly I don't know how many KLM B747s have been done by JCW. Too many models in a short time.

This is a model I've been contemplating buying now that I have some extra money. However, after reading all these comments, I'm more confused than ever about whether I should buy it. I do not have a KLM B744 in this livery.

This post is about the JC Wings 747 mold, probably the best 747 mold available today. While not perfect, it doesn't get any better than this mold after the most recent revisions IMHO.

As far as the KLM livery is concerned, I would get any of the current offerings that appeal to you and are available today. Because there is such a glut of KLM livery models being offered today, there is a good chance that it will be awhile before any of the models being offered today are offered again.

You can pay a reasonable price for what you want today, or pay eBay prices later if you decide not to buy. Or you can skip the model all together. That is the nice thing about it being your choice!

...... I only have the pair of the original IF200 KLM B744's (normal and Asia) ...... how does the normal schemed one rate against this JC Wings version atop this thread both in design/mold and artwork? ..........

...... I also have the Herpa premium version too, which is a very good rendition of the real mc-coy .........
