Question Hogan KLM 747

While I was the Airliners show in Toronto this morning I saw a Hogan KLM 747-400 on display. On the starboard side it said City Of Orlando. On the port side it said Orlando.
I thought it would say City Of Orlando on both sides. Just curious.

Apparently not. One side has the name of the city only, and the other has 'The City of ..." on the other side. I think KLM has just the name of the city on the port side and the 'The city of ...' on the starboard side. Look for the JCW KLM 747 thread in this forum. Their model is marked the same way, or Airliners.net for some pics of the real thing.

It appears to be the same for the last livery, as well as the new livery for KLM 747s.

A little history about that particular plane. Back in the mid 90's KLM inaugurated service from AMS to Orlando and the flight went on to Mexico City. That's why it was named City of Orlando. It only lasted a few years but KLM never changed the name City of Orlando even long after they pulled out of Orlando. I was lucky enough to ride jumpseat both ways on the Orlando Mexico City leg twice!

If you look at the KLM 747s, you'll notice that the name (usually) starts with the last letter of the registration:

PH-BFA Atlanta
PH-BFB Bangkok
PH-BFC Calgary
PH-BFD Dubai
PH-BFE Melbourne
PH-BFF Freetown
PH-BFG Guayaquil
PH-BFH Hongkong
PH-BFI Jakarta
PH-BFK Karachi
PH-BFL Lima
PH-BFM Mexico
PH-BFN Nairobi
PH-BFO Orlando
PH-BFP Paramaribo
PH-BFR Rio de Janeiro
PH-BFS Seoul
PH-BFT Tokyo
PH-BFU Beijing
PH-BFV Vancouver
PH-BFW Shanghai
PH-BFY Johannesburg

So PH-BFO could only have been changed to another city name starting with "O" e.g. Osaka or Ottawa, but I guess KLM didn't bother.

KLM has the name of a city (or park, bridge, bird etc.) in Dutch on one side and in English on the other site.

For example PH-BVA (Boeing 773) has on one side "Nationaal park de veluwe" and "National park the veluwe" on the other side.

It would have been nicer if you would have flown on one of them, let's say in the Premium Economy class for example...

I cannot forget her or any of the others over the years. But, when we got into collecting, the four I mentioned were the only ones left

I only flew KLM once. It was on one of the -200's. "The Danube". I believe she went on to fly with America West?

Do I feel like a noosh. Just looked at my 1:400 scale 80th Anniversary KLM and saw the names on the nose. Should have noticed that earlier.
