Default My 1/200 custom GSEs

Hi,

after building some GSEs (click, click), I tried to make what is arguably the most difficult GSE: a hydrant fuel truck.

Again it is based on lasered steel parts, but this time I had to build quite a lot of parts from scratch, that's why it took my really long to build them.

I made two trucks: one that is about to refuel and the other one which is driving or standing with a driver inside.

Usually I get asked by one or two if I sell any of these GSEs.
Sorry, wish I could, but it takes me too long to build these and I couldn't sell them for a reasonable price.

This is a fantastic job.
The kind of work for which it is impossible to count the time spent on it and I do understand what you feel.
The accuracy of the details is so true, you raised the bar very high.

Congratulations.

Simply spectacular!! That's the sort of detail I'd like to highlight my modest collection with. That's just magic!

I wonder how Mr. Rocast is making out. Last I heard he was looking into the feasibility of doing the one in the image I posted, in resin as a kit.

Hopeful . . .

What a terrific job!!! I can't get over how remarkably detailed these trucks are.

As someone in advanced middle age, I have noticed that my eyesight and manual dexterity has diminished notably of late. I used to build models as a teenager, and was moderately good at it. No more, I'm afraid. I sincerely admire those who can do it, and do it well.

If you ever offered these fuel trucks for sale (and they cost less than a mortgage payment!) I would be interested.

My hat is off to you, thanks for posting.

Indeed, we are currently starting with the hydrant truck for 1/200 scale, using the DAF truck cabin. References have been gathered and in about a week hopefully it will be started.
It is going to be a very big challenge, part of the challenge is make it to be produced in resin.

The bar has been rised high and I hope to do my best to create a high detailed hydrant truck. Photo etched parts will be included and I want to pay attention specially to the different accesories used such as the air compressor, fire extinguishers, etc. The smallest detail we want to include is the line that the worker connects to the aircraft in order to discharge the static charge to ground, everything will be tiny but the main goal is make it better than the pushback truck.

Hope to share it with you guys soon.
Sorry for my bit of offtopic

And so would I!

THIS was the level of quality I was expecting from the Gemini GSE, given the high level of detail in their airliners. Instead we got . . . well . . . we just got.

Agreed however these custom built trucks are not all that. Am I the only one who has discovered the following errors?

1) Right rear bumper has one red warning stripe missing
2) Mercedes Benz logo tilted to the left 1/2 degree
3) Front tire tread depth is wrong it is for a food catering truck and off by one tread pattern..
4) The guy standing on the back has bad posture..
5) The black border around the rear yellow tag is too thick
6) Finally.. The red on the door logo should be slightly darker
Come on you could do better

I'll pass .....

Yeah, never thought I'd see a prop that makes a herpa premium look inadequate. Incredible work. The fact that the truck looks so good from the up close shots means that it will look perfect in person, when the actual truck is too small to see any imperfections (not that there are any).

I hope you build more props till you have a full diorama. Such building skill is rare and is surely a treat for all other members.

No donors, except for the tires, they are from a tomytec truck.
Here's a photo of the parts during the works.

As for the producibility or the "price" of these trucks: You will call me insane, but just those laser cutted parts did cost me 300€. Then there were another ~100€ for materials, glue, spray color etc.
One could also make these photo etched parts, which would push the price down to 50€ or so.
However, "work cost" is the problem for me. It took me 10 month and each day 30 minutes of work to build them. For some reason I am incredibly slow in model builing. I see Brad Shinn building great model jets in a few weeks - have no clue how he's able to do that.

.....I agree with crownvic above - way too many errors/oversights in the detail .... I will pass on these crudely made GSE's too ....

......really though- excellent craftsmanship sir and congratulations on doing the 1:200 scale justice in the GSE department .... the detailing does set the bar very high and many of us will keep an eye out for anything now that gets released and (no doubt) compare it to your fine work .... this certainly adds a higher dimension to dioramas anywhere ....

If you produce these in limited number i am sure there is a well paying market for it.
I am sure the GSE itself will become a collectors item in the long run.

The only thing i have to say is that the GSE is outdetailing the plane model :-)
It makes the plane model look simple lol

If you saw on a previous post he mentioned it took 10 months to make and 300-400 euros. Getting the money back + profit would be incredibly difficult as I don't think anyone would want to pay that much money for a GSE. As stunning as they are and we would love to have then, one should cost no more than $20 which is why we need JCW to make some!

Yes, the various of manus who supply the model railroad guys could potentially take interest, and many of those guys have plenty of experience with highly detailed items. Just check out a first-rate model train shop and see.

The Herpa chosen was before the days of surface detailing (stenciling) in great gobs. I think it would look right at home under the wings of any number of Gemini 777s. Especially under the wing of my Air France 777-228ER. LOTS of lovely stencil and physical detail visible on that one in particular.

That would be a worthy place indeed. The two Socatec/Gemini 777s are works of art. And despite a lot of white in the livery they are anything but boring.

Hi, I asked a moderator to change the thread title, so I can continue here with additional GSEs.

Now for some container loaders I recently made. I used the usual photo etched metal parts. I made 3; two for the lower deck and the high one for the main deck of a cargo plane.
