Default Paint Hogan Landing Gears?

Hello there,

I have 3 sets of Hogan landing gear I want to put on my models. I will put them on my 3 Lufthansa models, but since the real Lufthansa gear doors are gray, and my Hogan gear doors are white, that wouldn't match.

So I was just wondering if you have any suggestions on how I can paint the gear doors so they are Lufthansa gray instead of white.

Here are the gears:

747-400 gear
A340-300 gear
MD-11F gear

Does spray paint work? Or is spray paint just gonna come off when it dries?

If you have any ideas please post your reply!

Thank you!

I'd recommend giving the surface you want to paint a very light sand, just to get it a bit rough, and give something the paint to stick to. Spray paint should be fine, but I've never actually painted Hogan gears. Make sure when you sand you don't round the doors on each end.

You can use a very fine grit sandpaper as mentioned about or wash the parts you are going to paint to remove casting and skin oils using a mild detergent. I prefer to wash them. Allow the parts to thoroughly dry before you paint. If you are going to spray paint, I usually mount the parts on some tape to avoid the spray paint blowing them around the work surface.

Spray paint works just fine. I prefer acrylic paint because it cleans up with water. Use several thin coats instead of one thick one. Don't touch the surface of the paint until it completely dries, but once dry the paint is as permanent as rest of the paint on the model.

Are you talking about the spray paint or the acrylic?

He is talking about acrylic spray paint vs enamel which is oil based instead of water. Either one would work, but enamel takes a remover to clean up instead of water.
