Very nice collection. What thickness glass did you use for the shelves, and what is the weight limit that it can carry? I added some glass shelves to a bookcase, but (like yours) it is only supported at the ends, with not middle bracket. I have a bunch of narrow bodies on there now, but would be worried about the heavies. My shelves are wider than yours and can hold 3x 747s side by side.

Ah, the A300 Vomit Comet :-) Actually, I like its display stand, I think it's a very appropriate way to display this model. BTW, the real aircraft is now retired (replaced by an A310) and will be converted to a museum:
Flughafen Köln/Bonn:*Airbus "Zero-G": 80 Tonnen Geschichte am Haken | GA-Bonn

I'll send you a PM concerning the Malév 767.

The cabinets are made by a small, virtually unknown Swedish company called IKEA :-) But these are not their Billy series but Besta. It's similar to Billy but deeper (40 cm vs 28 cm) so you can even put an A380 on the shelves, or 2 rows of narrow-body planes. Also, the shelves are 60 cm wide so they can accommodate 2 747s or 777s, as you can see (but not 2 380s, that's too much).

The shelves are 5 mm thick, and according to the IKEA website their maximum load is 10 kg. That should be fine even for the heaviest heavies.

Nice collection of mixed plastic and diecast models, I can easily spot more than 150 models that I have in my collection. Also almost a complete Swissair fleet plus Austrian,Makev and few more European airlines. Nice collection. Keep up the good work. Thanks for posting.

Back to your photos for the pleasure of the eyes.
The size of your cabinet is an excellent compromise when you have to display large and smaller models.
Are glass doors available to protect your models ?

Again, congratulations.

Jean Pierre.

This furniture system is called Besta. You have to buy the cabinet frame and the glass shelves separately. Indeed the frame is quite tall, 212 cm to be exact. Plus I bought smaller extension frames (height: 38 cm) and put them under the tall frames, so the whole thing is 2.5 m tall. This way the lowermost planes are at knee height instead of being pratically on the floor. Plus I could put my books in the extension frames.

Unfortunately not. Well, actually, this Besta system has glass doors too but they only cover 1/3 of a cabinet so you would need 3 for one cabinet ($$$...). And to make things worse they have very thick frames which obscure the view. So I decided to live without doors for the time being. I'm thinking of getting custom-made glass/plexi doors but I haven't got that far yet.

Some more advice concerning the IKEA Besta system. The cabinet frame comes in three colours: white, oak and black-brown. If you're thinking of getting black-brown frames thinking that the white planes would look good on the dark background: don't! The inside of the black-brown frames is too dark, you can hardly see what's in the back. I'm speaking from experience... Go for the white. I wouldn't buy oak either, I think a natural wood colour doesn't go well with the aircrafts.

A wide variety of aircraft and airlines. Also, good angles on the placements of the models. Still a few parking spaces left although very limited.Great work & thank you for posting.

I have 401 models on display (399 on the shelves, 2 on top of the cabinets). There are a few empty spots left, but not many. But I have wall space for one more cabinet

Great collection and very clean and well organized display... is it all diecast or a mix with plastic? I only ask as a spot an Air China 747 within your 747s... Id love to have one in diecast preferably on JCs new 747 mold...

Dammit, it's cheaper in Germany than in Hungary? Here one glass shelf cost 2000 HUF which is 6.5 EUR.

Actually, it's mostly plastic (Herpa and Hogan) but I do have quite a few Gemini, JCW and Inflight diecasts too. But I have no Air China 747! What I have is a China Airlines 747 (plastic). VERY different airlines! I may buy the Gemini Air China 747-8, though.

Sorry... I did mean the China Airlines 747 got myself mixed up for a second... I collect China Airlines but only in diecast hence my wish for diecast 747
